Relevant leadership models or theory adopted in daily work
Leadership models and theories focus on identifying the characteristics of leaders and
also identifies their behaviour for improving the abilities according to different situations
happening in the business environment. The different theories of leadership include Great Man
Theory, Trait Theory, Behavioural Theory, Transformational Theory, Transactional Theory or
Contingency Theory (Meuser, Gardner and Lord, 2016). As per the Great Man Theory, leaders
are born rather than made. This theory explains that great leaders arises when the situation arises
or great need arises. The leadership skills and traits are intrinsic and arises when the situation
demands. leaders have the right skills and traits for leading from birth i.e. intelligence,
communication skill, social skill or charisms and confidence.
Trait theory explains that specific skills, qualities, creativity, responsibility and
knowledge can lead to make a successful and effective leader. The Trait theory is used for
predicting effective leadership and aims at identifying characteristics of effective and successful
leadership. The identified leadership characteristics are then compared with potential leaders in
order to determine their likelihood for leading effectively. This theory helps me to identifying
different perspective of leadership and bring effective results and outcomes in the daily routine
work. The perspective of different leaders such as decisiveness, knowledge, skills and judgement
in managing different situation of the organisation helps me to effectively managing the
activities.
Behavioural Theory focuses on figuring out what effective and potential leaders manage
different activities, delegate task, way of communication, leadership style for motivating
employees, etc. rather than finding out who effective leaders are (Dugan, 2017). The behaviours
of successful leaders guides and directs me to adopt best styles and practices in order to bring
better outcomes. The autocratic behaviour of leaders can bring the best results as they are goal-
oriented and also focus on completing the task provided to them. But the employees may feel
unhappy and express hostility with the autocratic leaders as they are strict. The democratic
leaders are often considered as people-oriented leaders who aim at motivating and satisfying
employees. This creates friendly working environment for employees which may not bring
seriousness in work. The different behaviours are adopted by me at daily work according to the
situation demands. Different models and theories helps me in properly handling the business

activities and operations of business. These theories describes traits and skills of effective leaders
which can be adopted at daily work by me according to the different situations.
Leadership approaches adopted in daily work
The successful leader aims at serving as a role model and as a mentor for employees at
the same time. The approaches of leadership are situational, behavioural, relational and
Transformational (Ford and Harding, 2018). The different leadership approaches guides leaders
to bring effectiveness in business operations and activities and also to motivate employees so that
they come up with innovation and creation and leads to accomplishment of targeted goals and
objectives. Behavioural approach of leadership focus on studying the behaviours of leaders and
their characteristics as well. The behaviours and actions of effective leaders are focused rather
their traits or qualities. The behavioural approach states that there is an interpersonal relationship
between leaders and employees in which behaviours of leader constitute the most critical aspect.
The good behaviour of employees towards its employees will lead to motivate and encourage
them whereas absence of this may lead to bring negative impacts.
Situational approach of leadership was proposed by Paul Hersey and Kennet Blanchard
and it states that different situations requires different leadership. Leadership skills and attributes
needs to be adopted according to the situations. Effective and successful leaders focuses on
choosing the best suitable leadership style and practices as per the needs of situations. The
business environment gets influenced by many factors and brings different situation which
requires flexible leadership style in order to get best results and outcomes. The situational
approach guides me to adopt to different styles and bring out the best outcomes in daily work
and tasks. The effectiveness of this approach is that it brings flexibility in operations and also
provides motivation to employees. It adopts to different leadership styles such as coaching,
delegating, directive and supportive according to the development level of employees and
situations (Antonakis and Day, 2017). Therefore, I focus on adopting to situational approach in
my daily work so that I can effectively manage the activities according to development level of
employees and also by considering the situation.
Critical appraisals of own style of leadership.
There are different styles of leaders such as autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire,
transformational, transactional or situational. The effective and successful leaders needs to focus
on selecting and adopting the best styles so that it can lead to bring innovation in business

activities by motivating employees. My style of leadership is autocratic as it helps me to
effectively guide the employees and accomplishment of task. Autocratic style of leadership relies
on use of authority provided by the organisation. Autocratic style focuses on completing the task
given and it is referred as task-oriented. This may also lead to bring dissatisfaction to employees,
they may also feel unhappiness (Storsletten and Jakobsen, 2015). Autocratic leaders does not
focus on motivating and encouraging employees rather than they focus on completing the task.
The leaders are focused on positional power and authority rather than personal influences. The
use of autocratic leadership style provides me with the benefit of providing effective coaching
and guidance to employees so that they can effectively accomplish the task. This leadership style
does not aim at involving employees in decision making process but rather than makes decision
himself. But the success only depends upon the efficiency of leaders and involvement of
employees is not present and they are forced to follow directions provided (19 Autocratic
Leadership Style Advantages and Disadvantages, 2019). The involvement of employees is not
present in decision-making process which leads to provide quick process. Confidential matter
can be kept by autocratic leaders and also positive outcomes can be achieved.
Professional development for establishing for becoming a successful leader.
For becoming a successful and effective leader, I need to establish some training goals
and professional development (Yang and Lim, 2016). The traits of efficient leaders involves role
model, setting of effective vision, motivating employees, accountability and accomplishing goals
in effective way. I need to focus on bringing effective traits in my personality so that I can
become a successful and effective leader that can bring the best outcomes and results. Planning
and goal setting will help me to set effective targets and also need to set time-frame. This will
provide me the benefit of setting clear and specific targets and determining timeline will guide
me to complete the task effectively within time-frame. Public speaking trait needs to be
developed as it helps in effectively guiding and directing the employees and subordinates. A
good presentation and speech will lead to bring others on board and will also lead to bring
effective achievement of goals and objectives.
Professional development and training goals are also required for developing my problem
solving skill in order to get better results and outcomes. Effective and successful leaders know
how to resolve conflicts and bringing effective solutions for the same (Grandy and Sliwa, 2017).
Therefore, this skill will help me to bring the best solutions to problems of business and will also
