INTRODUCTION
Business is a commercial activity for generating revenues and profits which involves
buying and selling of goods or hiring or availing services. The main purpose of it is to maximise
profit each year so that there is scope for growth and expansion. The respectable organisation
chosen for this essay is TESCO PLC, a British multinational company which deals in groceries
in England and other countries. This essay will cover different business functions of TESCO
PLC and their role for efficient running of business.
MAIN BODY
The business may be defined as an activity that involves performing of different tasks to
generate revenue and earn profits. A business performs various functions through a set of
activities which helps in successful survival of the company (Albertoni, Elia and Piscitello,
2017). TESCO PLC plays important role in its survival into the market and performs various
functions that helps in its growth and expansion.
There are many departments in TESCO PLC and each one plays an important role in
contributing to the success of organisation. The first business function is marketing. Its plays
vital role as it involves planning for promoting the venture so that customers are attracted to
purchase its products. As TESCO owns many departmental store, there involves many products
which need to be promoted regularly. Its main function is to promote the goods and services
using different marketing strategies like marketing mix.
Another business function is finance. It plays an important role in managing the overall
budget of the organisation so that funds are allocated to every different as per their requirement
for efficient running of the business (Macchi, Savino and Roda, 2020). Its main function is to
allocated the requisite amount of fund to every department.
Production is also one of the function of TESCO. The main role of this department is to
obtain and organise resources from suppliers to produce goods. There also involves a
responsibility of producing a quality product so that goodwill of the company is maintained
(Valiyan and et. al., 2018.). Its main function is to produce, monitor and control the quality of
goods so that customers are satisfied from the goods offered.
The human resource department plays a pervasive role in the successful growth of the
business. Its main function is to plan, recruit and select the best employee for the organisation so

that the productivity of the organisation is increased and there is smooth functioning of the
business.
CONCLUSION
It is concluded from the above essay that all business functions plays a pursuant role in
the smooth working of organisation. Every department in TESCO performs various functions for
efficient running of the business so that it can generate high revenues.. Every function is
performed with the help of other and no single department can run without the help of other
(Aagaard, 2016). Further it is summarised that TESCO has efficient staff that performs the
function of each department effectively for achieving organisational goals.
