impacts of the organizations (Da Fonseca 2015). The company selected for the purpose of this
study is TESCO that is a retailer of general merchandise and groceries. TESCO foods comply
with the standards of ISO 14001: 2015 in order to carry out its activities in an environmental
friendly way (Tesco.com 2019). Self-reflection refer to the ability of an individual to learn from
their past experience for the purpose of making application of the same in future. The main aim
of the paper is to show the way TESCO complied managed to implement ISO 14001: 2015 into
its business and also reflection upon these figures and data in order to understand the benefits of
applying a sustainable business approach.
Discussion
TESCO is presently complying with the standards of ISO 14001: 2015, in its food and
non-food site and moreover it also has the “ENVIRONMENT, WATER AND WASTE
MANAGEMENT” in case the site fails to comply with the standards. Environmental policies are
given in the “ENVIRONMENT, WATER AND WASTE MANAGEMENT”. Moreover TESCO
has made an announcement about removing all plastic material from its products by the end of
2020. The same has been announced in the TESCO stores in UK in order to comply with the ISO

remove, reuse and recycle and it is aimed at removing material that is non-recyclable and all
those products that require excessive packaging. However in cases where it is unable to remove
the activities of excessive packaging such as for packaging food in order to protect the same
from getting wasted, the company has entered into agreements with the suppliers for reducing
the use of plastic material from the packaging as far as possible (International Organization for
Standardization 2015). Further TESCO has necessitated it for the retailers to use recyclable
material and reusing material. Therefore, TESCO will ensure removal of plastic material from its
business by 2020 by ensuring that plastic bags are avoided, by removing the plastic trays,
removing the secondary lids, reducing the use of straws and sporks and also removing the use of
plastic pieces from greeting cards and clothing. Further the company is also making its print eco-
friendly by making use of processes that are alcohol-free. Therefore non-hazardous material is
used for making the printing inks such as vegetable oil and moreover the company is also
recycling its developers and solvents (Ward 2016). These CTD’s are certified by ISO 14001:
2015. Further the paper that is being used by the company is also made of material that is free
from elemental chlorine free and these activities are done in order to comply with ISO 14001:
2015. TESCO has KPI’s that are aimed at reducing the emission of carbon dioxide, by reducing
the same from the network of distribution and the company is also aimed at reducing the
consumption of water.
If TESCO continues with its eco-friendly activities and also complies with the standards
of ISO: 14001: 2015, it will be able to create an image in the minds of the customers and it will
also be able to attract loyal customers (Ćoćkalo et al. 2019). This is so because the customer are
becoming aware of the environmental impact of organization and therefore they want to become
a part of something good and by becoming a customer of TESCO they will feel that they are also

ISO 14001: 2015, TESCO can also keep its employees engaged and motivated because the
employees feel that they are doing something good the society as a whole and therefore become
loyal towards their company and the company will be able to retain its employees longer by
engaging in such activities. It can help TESCO in improving its image and goodwill by reducing
its environmental impact. By complying with all legal standards properly, organizations can
reduce the interference of government into its day to day activities thereby improving the overall
efficiencies of the organizational activities (van der Walt 2019). Further these activities can also
help the company in reducing its cost by carrying out various cost control activities. Companies
that comply with various environmental standards can easily carry out organizational changes
because of employees will support all changes taking place and adapt to the same easily. By
complying with all the environmental standards, organization can easily gain the trust of the
stakeholders.

application of and to comply with ISO 14001: 2015 in order to reduce its environmental impact
and to become a sustainable businesses in the eyes of customers and general public. Therefore
