Introduction
For any organisation to survive in the emerging and competitive global market, it is must
to manage the talent of the employees who are the biggest assets of the organisations. Talent
Management is the continuous process which is used in the organisations whether small or large
that mainly aims to attract and retain the qualified, talented and high quality employees, develop
and enhance their skills along with continuously encouraging and motivating them so that they
can bring improvement in their performance (Krishnan and Scullion, 2017).
There are many strategies which are used by the retailer companies of UK which aims at creating
a motivated workforce who stays with the company in the long run instead of leaving the
company soon after taking the trainings (McDonnell and et.al., 2017). This will also help in
enhancing the talent and skills of the employee so that they become able to compete with the
competitors along with gaining larger competitive advantage in the emerging retail markets of
UK. This research will focus on the talent management strategies implemented by the Tesco
which is the British multinational retailer of groceries as well as general merchandise. It is
headquartered in England, UK. It became the third-largest retailer in the world in terms of gross
revenues and the ninth largest in the world in terms of revenues. It performs its operations in
many countries across the world which makes it the market leader of groceries in UK and many
other countries like Ireland etc. The company considers its 450,000 employees who are talented
as well as skilled as the biggest assets who are responsible for its growth and rapid progress.
There are many talent management strategies like understanding the power of job descriptions,
assessing the candidate to be cultural fit, providing training and development opportunities
continuously, giving the rewards and recognition to the employees and many more. Through this
research project, the various talent management strategies used by Tesco will be explored by
interviewing some managers and sending questionnaires to some employees of the company. As
the secondary collection, the annual reports of the company will be examined.

Various project management techniques will be used for the completion of the project.
Timeframes will be produced through the Gantt chart and Work Breakdown Structure which will
help in dividing and organising the project in specific manageable sections.
A comprehensive project management plan including the risks, costs, resources and time will be
produced for successful achievement of the aims and objectives of the project. Significant
conclusions will be made by analysing the data collected from the primary and secondary
sources. Lastly, some recommendations will be given in terms of better talent management
strategies which can be implemented and used by retail firms like Tesco so that they become able

competitive advantage. The value gained by conducting the project will be reflected which will
also help in supporting the sustainable organisational performance.

increasing the knowledge regarding the talent management strategies
implemented in Tesco as well as the new strategies which can give better
results to the company. This will also suggest the company to organise

their skills which not only enhances the performance of the employees but
also increases the productivity and profitability of the company.
Time Time is required in every stage of the research project whether it is sampling

better strategies will require almost two months from 4 January 2021 to 5
March 2021 in which specific days will be decided for the completion of
every activity. For example, in identifying the aim and objectives of the
project 3 days will be required which will start from 4 January and will end
on 6 January and all other activities will be in the similar order. The project
manager is responsible for ensuring that each activity of the research project
is updated and carried out according to the decided schedule and is
completed within the decided timeframe.
Quality The quality of the research project will be decided by the method and the
type of the research. Mainly the two methods can be used by the researcher
for conducting the research which are namely Qualitative and Quantitative
(McClory, Read and Labib, 2017). The qualitative methods are much easier
than the quantitative methods to analyse the data collected from the
interviews and the questionnaires and the other primary sources of data

employees of Tesco suggested. 10 Employees said that by providing both financial and non-
financial rewards to employees as per their requirements, Tesco can manage people. In addition,
7 employees said that according to them by employing diverse workforces or different cultures
and background of employees it can bring innovation. On the other hand, 13 employees believe
that implementation of policies such as: health and safety, anti-discrimination and others,
company can increase staff retention rate and can improve its image.
For making this study successful and effective some secondary data has also being
gathered and analysis. For secondary data analysis, facts and statistics of the company has been
used.
In facts about Tesco it is found that Tesco believes that leadership is one of the main key
of their success and effective style of leadership can help them out in managing people.

organization. It is also found that transformation style of leadership helped them out in

RECOMMENDATION
The recommendations which can be suggested to Tesco is mainly the democratic leadership
which do not discriminates the employees on the basis of religion, caste, creed, nationality,
gender or any other basis. This will help in managing the talent of the employees along with
motivating them to perform in the best manner as possible. Also, the company must provide
financial rewards to the employees in the form of extra salary etc. which is considered as the
financial motivation which attracts the most talented and hard working employees along with
motivating the existing talented employees to stay with the company in the long run (Claus,
2019). Along with these, Tesco must also organises various training programs which helps in
reducing the language barriers among the workforce and they will be more motivated and

the organisational productivity and profitability.

From the above project, I have learnt various skills and knowledge that are fruitful for me
in professional and personal career to get high success. The value of undertaking research is find
out relevant information related to the way talent can be managed in the organisation so that last
objectives can be attained. The research has helped in understanding the meaning and
importance of talent management for an organisation such as Tesco in order to gain competitive
advantages. I am able to developed several skills while conducting research on talent
management such as the way employees can be handle, motivated to make best use of their
capabilities. It also contributed in enhancing my research, data collection and analysis skills
which further helped in making better decision or suggestion that are fruitful for enterprise to
enhance its market share. There are several core value which I have make use in order to achieve
objectives such as honesty, accountability and openness which ensure that information gathered
is relevant and accurate. Project management process is valuable or important as it helps in
effective utilisation of resources, improvement in customers services thus contribute company in
gaining competitive advantages. The process is also important as it helps in clarifying task that
need to be completed by specific individual, identified milestones and the way it can be
overcome so that end outcome can be achieved. Furthermore, as per my perspective the research
was very useful for me as I am able to learn method through which data can be collected and
analysed so that necessary information can be interpreted. As per my perspective the research
has also helped me in learning several method which could be used by manager to manage talent
employees. It also helps in understanding various challenges that are faced by manager while
retaining talented individual thereby enhancing my decision-making skills to find alternative
options the way they can be retained for growth of firm. So, overall the research on the most
important topic named as talent management is useful for me as well as several other individuals
like entrepreneurs, competitors, investors and customers of Tesco.
