Introduction
Human resource department of an organisation is responsible for hiring, firing and
terminating the employees according to the business requirements. The HR managers also
provide performance based appraisals to the employees in order to enhance their satisfaction and
morale for working hard. The taken organisation in this report is Tesco which is a UK based
retail and supermarket chain performing business around the world. This report will identify a
problem in the training procedure of the company along with the possible solutions which is
selected based on suggestions of co-workers. This report will also cover the plan for resolving
the problem as well as to modify the plan according to requirements.
Task 1
A. Identification of problem
The problem has been detected while conducting the training sessions which is negatively
impacting the training of employees. This issue has been identified which needs immediate
attention so that the training can go as expected. The issue is that while on training, the working
hours of the employees get extend as they could not execute their assigned work on deadlines.
This issue is negatively impacting the employees in training as they could not able to focus on
training due to not completing their work which also impact the training session.
B. Analysis of business problem
This problem is a major issue for the company as when employees could not execute
their work due to the training and as a result the employees are not capable of focusing on the
training sessions too. Through this problem, the time as well as cost of the Tesco is increasing as
the company is not getting any favourable results from the training sessions of employees
(Botha, Kourie and Snyman, 2014). This problem is negatively impacting the behaviour of
employees as they are not getting the satisfaction in their working and training process of the
organisation.
C. Cause of problem
This problem is caused because of the extending working hours of the employees. The
company is providing the training sessions to the employees in regular days due to which the
employees has to perform their task as well as also needs to attend the training session. The

employees are not able to do both work simultaneously which is decreasing the efficiency of
employees in both of the activities. So the main cause for this problem of Tesco is the schedule
of training which is set by the managers in regular working days.
D. Understanding of problem
After discussing the problems with the co-workers, it has been identified that the co-
workers also face such issue during the training sessions which is impacting their training as well
as working performance. The colleagues stated that they understand the issue which is going in
the training process due to not including the suggestions and opinions of the employees while
preparing the strategy for improving the skills and capabilities of the workers (Groebner and et.
al., 2013). This issue is also impacting their efficiency as well as working productivity due to
which job dissatisfaction is arising among them.
E. Different solution for the problem
There are various solutions for this problem or issue which can be adopted by the
management of the Tesco for improving the training procedure. Some of these solution for the
issues of the training process of Tesco are as follows:
ï‚· The management can provide flexible working arrangement to employees such as work
from home, flexible working hours, etc. so that they can maintain the balance between
working and training.
ï‚· The management can also set the training time in morning or on weekend so that the
workers can arrange their work on the priority basis as well as to attend the training
sessions also.
F. Agree upon a solution
After discussing with the team members and colleagues, all agrees on the solution of
providing flexible working arrangement to the employees. This solution was chosen as the
employees will get opportunity to manage their working time as well as training time properly so
that the assigned work of the employees can be executed effectively without affecting the
training sessions (Kolk, 2016). Also the employees can concentrate on their training process for
improving their skills and knowledge if their assigned work is executed on the given deadlines.

Task 2
A. Plan for resolving the problem
The plan for resolving the issue is as follows:
ï‚· Identify the problem
ï‚· Determine the root cause
ï‚· Brainstorm suitable solutions
ï‚· Determine suitable solution
However some constraints such as time exist in this plan which can impact the plan in
execution. This plan can consume time as ideas are collected from employees for determining
the solution.
B. Reason for chosen approach
This above discussed plan is selected for resolving the problem because in order to
resolve a problem, firstly the problem and its root cause should be identify so as to search for
possible solutions which can be applied to the problem (Noe and et. al., 2017). After searching
possible solution from the ideas and opinions of the employees, management can evaluate the
suitable solutions which can be used. After that the suitable solution is chosen and implemented.
C. Explanation that problem has been resolved
The problem has been resolved using the above discussed approach as the number of
employees who are attending the training sessions started to increase as well as employees of the
organisation are also taking the interest in the training. Apart from this, the office work of the
employees is also in control due to which they are taking the training seriously for improving
their skills. Improved efficiency has been obtained from their working which was the main aim
of training.
D. Assigning roles and responsibilities
The trainer has been provided with the role of giving speech and motivation to the
employees for maintaining balance between personal and professional life. A external invigilator
has also been recruited by the organisation for determining the performance of employees based
on given training (Rani and Gulati, 2014). My role is to monitor the activities of trainer,
invigilator and employees when the training session is going on.

Task 3
A. Action assigned in the plan
In the action plan, my role was to monitor the activities and performance of trainer,
invigilator and employees. This is done by analysing the CCTV camera, evaluating the
performance of quiz taken in the training sessions. I also used the feedback and suggestions from
trainer, invigilator and employees in order to determine their opinions regarding the training so
that the training procedure can be improved.
B. Progress in solving the problem
After applying the selected procedure for resolving the training issue of the Tesco, the
impact of the problem started to decrease gradually (Rousseau, 2012). This is because, the
problem is not resolved instantly rather it takes time as employees needs time to manage their
work on priority basis. The problem is however is decreasing and positive impact of the solution
is visible during the working as employees are happy and focused on their training.
C. Adjustments to the plan
Some modifications are done in the action plan so that the issue can be eliminated in a
proper manner. This modification is that after determining the potential solution, management
should consider the reviews and opinions of their employees as they are the one having the issue
and their suggestions are must for improving their skills and capabilities.
Task 4
A. Approach for solving the business problem
There are various approaches for resolving the problem of business. The managers needs
to provide the suitable problem solving training to the employees based on their weak areas.
Also the manager can provide the monetary benefits to employee such as Rewards, incentives
etc. for improving their motivation which will also improve their efficiency and performance.
The managers can also use the motivation theories, leadership style etc. so as to provide the
support and guidance to employees for improving their performance and productivity (Sekaran
and Bougie, 2016).

B. Other approaches for being more productive
There are other approaches also through which the Tesco can avoid the business
problems. One of these approach is that the management can provide performance based
appraisals to employees so that they can stay motivated in their work (Zairi, 2012). This is also
essential as motivated employees takes and provide the suggestions to and from other employees
regarding the problems so that possible solution can be determined.
Conclusion
It has been concluded from the above report that the Human resource department of an
organisation is important department which contributes their maximum efforts in achieving the
desired organisational goals. This department also provides the talented employees which can
resolve the problem of other employees in the organisation. The managers needs to develop
action plan in which roles and responsibilities are mentioned along with the path for resolving
the problems. The organisations should provide motivation to their employees so that they can
work properly.
