also focuses on the main message portrayed by the author to the society regarding the
rehabilitant and the central theme of pain and suffering through loss of love and friendship.
The work of James Frey is a vivid and non-fiction novel depicting his childhood memory of
trauma.
Discussion
Fry being the author of ‘A Million Little Pieces’ through this memoir present a 23-
year-old drug addict and alcoholic who has also been a former criminal struggling in a
rehabilitation center. The book of 500 pages present the themes of friendships, humility,
guilt, anger, compassion and kindness to support the journey of an addict and how he move
on from a lifestyle of substance abuse. Frey has used the trick to proper framing of the themes
through imagery work, lack of paragraph structure and improper sentence ending. There has
been a passage which says how Frey has detoxed his body and he describes the physical
feeling while getting rid of the chemicals and toxins in his body. Although Frey himself don’t
feel the shame, he makes the readers feel shameful and guilt while flipping through the pages
and thus the book creates an emotional manipulation. The memoir contains the narrative
voice of the writer where he projects the story of his life in front of the reader and want the
reader to feel him from his words written and letting them enter his world. It plays with the
imagery and thinking of reality and illusion. The writing style adopted has been intentionally
done to build a personal connection with the reader. Frey through this story projects his
refection in the mirror and invites intimacy and closeness from the reader. . The texts
involved and the ‘inter-texting’ framework throughout the book depicts that the texts are not
the portrayal of any references of pictures or other books but certain words which inspired
Frey to write. This book gives us a new definition of destruction of life as well as

theme is introduced to portray that each writing is interconnected with another not letting the
reader to study the pages in isolation. It depicts how Frey’s thoughts are interlinked with
