In the following section, we will introduce both the main category which ideally involves
prayer in general and the two initial subcategories related to the two research questions i.e.:
i. How does it connect faith and life?
ii. What theological themes are revealed in prayer?
The objective is to explore parts of our prayer diary that strongly brings out the topics in
question. That is, what theme or fact is revealed based on one’s view on prayer? As such, the
coding steps will be split into 5 i.e. the main topic, two subtopics and content section (data) all
these sections are connected so as to show distinction and relationship.

 The theological study emphasizes the existence of God and His divine power, which an individual can rely on as the
source of their needs.
 which in this case is praying as a way of making requests to God
 Prayer practically connects faith and life in that we believe for things that we need to be functional in our life. Through
prayer, I communicate with God concerning my joys, sorrows, hopes, and dreams, as well as my fears and anxieties
 Faith moves God to answer prayers.
 Theology shapes the individual through prayer because a person is required to demonstrate a lifestyle of faith and prayer
 I convey my honor and thanks for the good things in my life and the people around me. When making prayer, it is to meet
physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. Prayer reveals various theological themes that explain the nature of God in
diverse ways.

 Prayer reveals God as a provider, counselor, judge, merciful God, and a person to relate with. Human beings do not only need
material things to meet their needs, but a relationship with God also means that an emotional and psychological need has been met.

From the coding conducted above, there are up to 11 themes that come out strongly.
However, the most prominent theme in relation to prayer and theology is that of faith and action.
This implies that, in theology prayer go hand in hand with faith, action and practice. As a matter
of fact, the underlying connection between all the themes can be posited to be practice.
Therefore, as a theologian, faith is important if prayer is going to be relevant and action coupled
with persistence is mandatory if the faith is going to be put into action.
