INTRODUCTION
The term mental health denotes to a state of psychological, social and emotional
wellbeing in which an individual acts, thinks and feel or stays in consciousness. This helps in
determine the level of stress how much a person carries and due to which other problems arises.
This is the concern which is very essential at each stage of life whether it is childhood or
adolescence or adulthood (Aftab and Rashed, 2021). The mental health nursing is also refereed
as a psychiatric nursing which is a specified field of nursing that includes individual care with
their mental health disorder and to assist them in recovering or improving their quality of life.
The present report aims at generating portfolio that includes an understanding of therapeutic use,
identifying the characteristic of different mental disorder and a use of therapeutic strategies
under a supervision of clinical expert.

Therapeutic use is a medicinal term or branch that is being related with particular
treatment for disease. This is generally a type of treatment or care which is being provided to a
patient with an aim of preventing as well as combating relevant disease or alleviating the injury
& pain. The use of therapeutic comprises for the mental health of an individual with their
emotional or illness difficulties. This can assist in eliminating & control various symptoms so
that a person’s mind could function better & enhances their well-being. This can be used in a
form of therapy sessions which can be conducted in family, individual group or in couple helping
adults and children both. The therapeutic use of self is a main focuses of nursing & needs a
complete awareness within nurses of their own thoughts, actions as well as feelings. This helps
in enabling the clinically appropriate treatment for the patient along with its benefit or
consequences to them as well as to others. This generally develops professional bonding among
the patient and the therapist so to have an effective progress over their treatment (Cook, 2020).

Mental disorder is a state where a person loses his or her consciousness and does not acts
or feels anything real. The different characteristics of a mental disorder that has an impact on
person are mentioned below:
A feeling of down or sad which loses the patients morale and gives rise to negative
thoughts.
A thinking with high confusion or reduction in the ability of making concentration to
anything.
Excessive anger, violence or hostility that brings frequent mood changes or an inability to
cope up with their daily stress or problems.
Extreme worry of fear that provides a feeling of guild or ignorance from others.
Having hallucinations or paranoia that allows them to get detached from their family or
society (Otasowie, 2021).
The characteristics of mental disorder can be identified through its symptoms or by the
act of an individual that will present their mental stability or state of consciousness.
