INTRODUCTION
In recent times, it has become important for people to maintain their mental and physical
health. In UK it is found that women are not being involved in taking part in sports and other
physical activity. This is because they are being discriminated from it. So, for that a campaign
was started. This Girl can campaign is about to motivate a greater number of girls and women in
order to take part within sport as well as physical activity (Steptoe, and Wardle, 2017).
According to this there is no need to be in shape or super confident within their bodies to
participate in it. This campaign is about women to feel confident in order to overcome their fears
regarding being judged. This campaign was launches within the year 2015, As this has been
working in order to address the important gender gaps found within exercise and sports so that
build the confidence of the women. This campaign has already motivated more than 3.5 billions
women out of them 40% of are of 16 years as well as over not active enough in order to get the
full health benefits of physical activity and sports as compared to 35% of the male.
In this essay it will be described about concept of well being and health and campaign This
girl campaign, factors impaction on health and also challenges being faced in implemented of
campaign.

upon the campaign success?
For every human being health and well being is of utmost priority. In this it includes both
mental and physical health of person. There are several concepts and approach of health which is
given in defining health and well being. Similarly, in UK there a campaign which was started
known as This Girl can . The main purpose was to provide equal opportunity to women to
participate in sports. Besides that, campaign also promoted effective health and well being of
women.
Health and well being is term that was adapted within the year 1986 through Ottawa
Charter, that describes about health as a resource for everyday life, from this context health is
considered as a means to living well that focuses on link between health as well as participation
within society. Health has contributed within order to increase the understanding of the mental
dimensions of health as well as enhancing the identified of public mental health that was

considered as an essential part to the Public health. Well being is considered as a key to
conceptualizing as well as discussing public mental health. Well being is also defined as feeling
good as well as functioning well as it focuses on the own experience of the individuals of their
life as well as comparison of their life circumstances with social values and norms. In this social
model of health is considered which state that all factors of health needs to be examined that
contribute towards good health and well-being. In this factors included are, social, cultural,
political and environmental. For instance- poor environment can highly impact on negative on
mental and physical health. Besides that, in model the communities needs to be engaged highly
in planning, organizing and implementing solutions for solving health issues and reducing
inequalities in it. Similarly, This Girl can campaign used certain concept of health and well-
being that is objective well-being. In this they are focusing on basic human right and needs of
human being such as physical health of women. Thus, the campaign is initiated to maintain
physical health of women by engaging them into sports. In this way it will enable in maintaining
physical health and well being of women. It has directly focused on women health so that they
remain fit and fine in physical health. Health and Well-being are considered as two steps that are
vital within the field of OSH or known as the occupational safety health as there are various
interpretation of such concepts that are strengthened the significance it more regularly within the
workplace as thus considering such concepts of the well being the requirements of individualism
as well as realisations of aims ad goals (Hill, 2017). Several other definitions are such as
individual's positive analysis regarding life.
It can be analysed that there is great positive impact on physical health of women in
effective way. this can be identified that by participating in sports and other activities it has been
easy for women to remain fit and maintain physical health. So, by involving in campaign women
weight is reduced, and many other benefits are observed. Moreover, it is found that women are
now more active in participating in sports and engaging in other physical activity. With that their
confidence has boosted as well (Richards, 2018). Women are feeling change in their behaviour
and physical health.
Health promotion is not a new concept. The fact that health is determined by factors not
only within the health sector but also by factors outside was recognized long back. During the
19th century, when the germ theory of disease had not yet been established, the specific cause of

so that people are aware about it. there are various ways in which health promotion can be done.
It includes social media, TV, campaigns, etc. With that it becomes easy to promote health and
make people aware about it. The term holistic health is used many times in literature with a
variety of different connotations. Holism also has its origin in the Greek word holos, which
means “whole.” Holism is not about any cult or religion, rather, it is an approach that looks at
things in a total perspective.

There are various factors that impacts the health of an individual as these are considered
as the determinants of health (González-Rodríguez,2017). One of the determinant is health while
another one is behaviour of an individual. Mention below are some major social factors that
impacts health.
Education-
It provides a tool one can require to make the good decisions regarding health as level of
education effects regarding how healthy one can. Individuals with more education are more
likely to live longer as compare to uneducated ones. As educated people are more likely to
participate within healthy activities such as regular check-up by doctors and also exercising
regularly in order to make them fit. These people are less inclined towards the Unhealthy
activities such as smoking, drinking and many more. Education also leads them to higher paying
jobs as these are often come with advantages such as healthier working conditions, health
insurance as well as the opportunity in order to make several new connections with other people.
All of such things add up for the better health (Richards, 2018).
Income
The money that can be made by someone can impacts the health of an individual. People
who earns more may live longer and tends to be healthier as compare to people who have lower
incomes. They have more access to healthy foods and grocery stores. They are also have more
safe places for other activities or exercises. People who have low incomes are more likely to live
within a community regarding poor health as it includes unsafe housing, more challenging for
getting food as well as less time for physical activity. People who have less income also impacts

the capability to have health care and health insurance as it can impact how often visit to doctor
and thus direct impact on their health.
Housing
It is also a factor which can influence on health of individual. In this it means that those
who live in poor houses are at high risk of developing health problems. Here, conditions such as
mold, pest, etc. can highly impact on health. So it is necessary that home conditions are proper so
that there is no major hazard which can occur in that place. besides that, having a good housing
conditions affect in positive way on health (Philipp, and Thorne, 2018). When house is situated
apart from industrial area then there will be less pollution in it.
Access to health care
This is also an important factor which can highly influence on health of person. in this it
refers to access of primary health care facility which is available to people. Thus, if health care
facility is available to people then they get regular check ups and their health is maintained.
Besides that, they are easily prevented from chronic disease. But on other hand, there are some
people who are not having access to basic or primary health care facilities. Therefore, they
remain deprived of getting proper treatment. So, it highly impact on their mental as well as
physical health.
In addition to that, it has been identified that in implementation of This Girl can campaign
there are several challenges which are being faced. Due to these challenges it has become
difficult to initiate it in successful way. thus, they are as follows
Gender discrimination- this is major challenge which is being faced in implementing this
campaign. Here, in UK gender discrimination is being done to great extent. It has been found
that in sports and other physical activities men are given more chances as compared to women.
Besides that, women are restricted from taking part in those activities. thus, in many areas this
campaign is not being implemented successfully.
Lack of awareness- it is also a challenge which is being faced in this campaign. There are many
women who are not being aware about this campaign running in UK. so, due to that they are not
able to participate in sports and other activities. Also, it campaign is not promoted and advertised
on social media, TV, etc. women are not taking part in it as they do not have complete
knowledge about it (Philipp, and Thorne, 2018).

Lack of support from government- In UK government is not giving support to this campaign.
Besides that, not many NGO and businesses are supporting this campaign. So, it has led to
ineffective implementation in it which is major issue. In addition to it, there is also lack of funds
due to which the campaign is not run successfully. This has affected on implementation of
campaign. In many cities of UK there are no facilities provided by government for this.
Therefore, it is found that due to these challenges it has become difficult to run successful
this campaign in UK (England, 2017).
