INTRODUCTION
Tinder is an American networking and online dating application and has become the
world’s most popular dating app, wherein people get an opportunity to meet new people. The
app is increasingly emerging as a popular platform for meeting new people (Boudouresque
and et.al., 2021). Also, there are not a lot of critical review articles that have been conducted
for this research article. This report will provide a critical report and review of a research
article on the topic, “To Tinder or Not to Tinder, that’s the Question: An Individual
Differences Perspective to Tinder Use and Motives”. This critical review will include an
analysis of the respective article.
How Five Factor Model of Personality relates to popular dating app Tinder.
The five factors of the respective model include extraversion, agreeableness,
contentiousness, neuroticism as well as openness to experience. These ae the five traits of a
person’s personality and it can be said that it relates to the popular dating app Tinder because
different people with different personalities get an opportunity to interact with each other.
These traits describe stable patterns of behaviors among different people.
Summary
The authors of the respective article are Timmermans, E., & De Caluwé, E and they
have clearly mentioned the research hypothesis. The respective research article aims at
investigating how the Five-Factor Model of personality relates to both Tinder use and
motives. The strengths of the study that were analysed during the critical review were that
the authors have divided the research into different sections so that it is easy for the readers to
develop an understanding of the research study in an effective manner (Lai and et.al., 2021).
The major arguments of the research are based on the Big Five personality traits that have
often been studied in relation to the use of online dating sites (To Tinder or not to Tinder,

that's the question: An individual differences perspective to Tinder use and motives, 2021).
Another strength of the respective article that has been analysed. Is the research showed
individuals who have greater scores on agreeableness, are more likely to use online dating
sites and this can be a result of peer pressure as compared to people who have low scores on
agreeableness. The authors also argued that individuals who score high in the personality test
for openness to experience more. Are also likely to use online dating sites in order to meet
new people. But one of the weaknesses that was observed while reviewing the article was that
the authors have not specified the research questions. This can create difficulty for the readers
to develop an understanding of the report.
Apart from this, it has also been analysed since the authors have explained the
different activities of the research in different sections, this has made it easier for the readers
to understand the different techniques as well as methods that have been used for the
completion of the report in an effective manner. As far as the conclusion of the report is
concerned, the study has concluded that single Tinder users are the ones who are more
extroverted and open to new experiences than people who are single and do not use Tinder. It
was observed that there was a long discussion that was presented by the authors in a
structured as well as systematic manner (Oliverio and et.al., 2021). The authors have included
a discussion, but there is no conclusion and hence, this can be cited as one of the weaknesses
of the respective research article.
The research design of the respective research article is descriptive and this is because
the researcher has described the different aspects of the study in an effective manner. This
will ensure that the research is completed in an effective manner. Not only this, the researcher
has also described the characteristics of the population and the different ways in which
improvements can be made.

Critical Evaluation
As already mentioned, Tinder has gained a lot of popularity in the last few years and
hence, the respective article that is being critically analysed is based on the popularity and
relational personality traits. The authors have explained the different sections of the research
report so that it is easier for the readers to develop an understanding of the same effectively
(Rodrigues, Eberlin and Neto., 2021). It can be said that, the authors have used different
methods to explain their arguments as well as different ideas in an effective manner. The
readers will be able to develop an effective understanding of the different ideas that the
authors have included in the study. It can also be said that the authors have effectively
explained the methods that they have used for completing the study. Besides this, another
strength of the study is that a discussion has also been included in the respective research
article to summarise the different findings as well as results of the study in an effective
manner. But one of the weaknesses of the study is that the authors have not included a
conclusion. As this could be deemed a confusion among the readers.
Additionally, parallel analyses and the Velicer’s Minimum Average Partial (MAP)
check each counseled to hold thirteen elements. Table 1 reports at the descriptive facts of
those 13 Tinder elements and the persona traits. Inspecting the scores of the Tinder elements
shows that they are all extensively represented within the data, given their maximal insurance
with ratings among 1 and seven (Cano, 2021). Also, the personality tendencies show an
awesome coverage with scores starting from 1.58 to 4.63, for this reason almost achieving the
maximal variety. The Big Five-character tendencies have frequently been studied on the
subject of the use of both on-line relationship web sites and social networking service
(SNS). Being a fantastically new phenomenon, the Big Five-character developments that
have an impact on the use of cellular courting packages provide immediacy and proximity
thru their area-primarily based offerings. Tinder is such an app this is predominantly targeted

at heterosexual singles. Consequently, the first purpose of this study is to look at character
variations between single Tinder customers and singles that by no means used the
application.
CONCLUSION
From the above critical evaluation of the respective research article, it can be
concluded that Tinder has become one of the most popular dating apps for the emerging
youth because it provides them an opportunity to build new networks by meeting people. The
critical evaluation of the respective article has also provided some useful insights such as
people who are single and use the Tinder app are more likely to be extroverted as compared
to people who are single and do not use the platform. The article has significantly contributed
to my existing knowledge about the social platform and how it motivates people to use the
same. The research design is an important component of a research study and it helps in
enhancing the overall outcomes as well as effectiveness of the research.
