Question 1
The number of international tourist to Tasmania has increased significantly and this has brought
both positive and negative impact to the community.
Positive impact
There has been a tremendous increase in the levels of economy for Tasmania. Tourist activities
have brought it with significant economic activities that have largely contributed to the economic
rise of the region. Tourism brings with it a lot of revenues in term of foreign exchange and the
region is no exception. Increased number of tourists has made the region to earn a lot and thus
this has impacted positively on the economy of the region.( Baggio, 2008)
Also growth of the economy means that a big part of the population must be earning which
contributes to a higher per capita income for the region. This is to say that there has been
creation of employment activities by the tourism industry which has enabled the local people to
earn a living and thus improved the economy of the place.( Boniface, Cooper, and Cooper,
2016). A lot of people with income increases the overall income of the whole region and enables
such people to have power to carry out economic activities which in turn improves the level of
the economy.
Tourism brings with it a lot of structural development which in turn improve the economy. An
area such as Tasmania has had a lot of improvements in the infrastructure due to the high number
of visitors coming to the place. Better roads have been constructed and better facilities of social
amenities have also been set up. A lot of development in infrastructure means there is ease in
doing things such as travelling using lesser time and this goes a long way in improving the
economic level of Tasmania.

Negative impact
A big influx of tourist to Tasmania region has brought a lot of negative effect on the natural
environment of the region. There has been a high rise of visitors trooping to the place which has
brought with it a lot of pollution to the environment.
Most of the tourist use materials that are not degradable and they end up throwing them anyhow
after use. This contributes to the blockage of the drainage systems which lead to spilling of
wastes. The marine life is also affected by this and if the marine life suffers, then there will be
lack of food and also lack of activities on the water body which will in turn contribute to low
numbers of tourist visiting the region.( Bonetti, Petrillo, and Simoni, 2006)
Congestion is an issue that directly affects the natural environment. Large population of people
in one specific area results to the lack of space to carry out any meaningful activity. The
environment is affected as there is no clean and fresh air which may contribute to some people
fainting or collapsing. The environment suffers as most of the places are trampled on and a lot of
pollutant materials are being disposed of aimlessly.
Also increase in the number of people will imply that the available environment resources are
not adequate to fully sustain them. A rapid increase in the population means that this people
would all want to us the same environment resource that is present at the place at the same time.
This will not be enough and thus some will try to find other ways to fulfill their needs and this
may be harmful to the environment.( Cornelissen, 2017)
Question 2
There are two key issues that occur in Tasmani in relation to tourism

Hospitality business
Most tourists when they visit a tourist site would wish to spend time and relax nearby after they
have finished their activities during the day. Therefore they would look for a nice
accommodation within the vicinity of the tourist site. (Farrell, and Twining-Ward, 2004)
Tasmania hospitality business has grown significantly due to the high number of visitors to the
region. The local people have set up various form of accommodation that is suitable for all
categories of visitors coming to the region. It is informed by the need to serve all visitors and for
no one to feel out of place due to only one type of accommodation. This are mainly based on the
simplicity to access some of the tourist site available in Tasmania and thus the tourist will book
their accommodation on the need to do a particular thing or just out of their liking.( Lazzeretti,
and Petrillo, 2006.)
There are those who will prefer apartments for their own convenience while others would go for
hostels, caravan, cabins or holiday houses. The accommodation facilities differ in prices in
accordance with the purpose they are serving and therefore each will bring different revenue to
the region.
The provision of these facilities has enabled Tasmania to be known worldwide for excellent
accommodation services. This has contributed greatly to increase in the number of people
coming to enjoy facilities which has in turn brought a lot of revenues to the tourism sector.
Furthermore, the booming of the hospitality business has led to job creation for a lot of people.(
Getz,1986).There is the need for additional labor force to deal with the high number of tourists
and this has improved lives of the local community.

There has been a lot of development of Tasmania as a tourist and destination site for the last few
years. This has been driven by several factors which include hospitality business. The provision
of good and world class facilities coupled with high levels of customer service has contributed to
spurring on of Tasmania as a tourist and destination center.
Tourist sites
The other issue that is related to tourism and destination development is the availability of a wide
range of tourist sites in the region. Tasmania boasts itself of having a number of tourist sites that
offer great and unique experience to the visitors. Each of the sites is unique in its nature and thus
gives the visitors maximum satisfaction that they would wish to get.( Jamal, and Getz, 1995.)
There are various tourist sites such the market, museum, cataract, national park, botanical
gardens and several others that are located within the Tasmania region. The concentration of all
these sites unlike other places makes it more convenient for tourist as they will be able to visit all
this places in a shorter time as compared to if there were far from each other. This attracts a lot
of tourist and thus there is growth of Tasmania as a tourist and destination center.( Lucas, Luz,
Moreno, Anacleto, Figueiredo, and Martins, 2013).
The natural unique formation such as the cataract George is a breathtaking site that most visitors
would like to see. It is such sites that attract a big number of people who bring with them a lot of
foreign exchange earnings and thus contribute to the growth of the tourism industry.
Some of the sites are designed in such a manner as to offer the visitors a great and unforgettable
experience. They are added features that are only unique to the Tasmania culture and region and
which cannot be traced anywhere else in the world. This include sites such as the Salamanca
market which only takes place on Mondays and the museum which has amazing art collections .

(Mill, and Morrison, 2002).All this brings curiosity to the tourists making them travel long
distance to experience for themselves and thus raise the profile of Tasmania as a tourist and
destination point.
The above two issues have had a significant impact on the area as a tourist and destination
region. They have brought a lot of revenue to the area which has made tourism to be a big
contributor of the GDP of the country. Statistics have indicated that the tourism sector has
contributed significantly to the overall performance of the economy of the area.it has also been
noted that tourism and tourism related industry has absorbed most of the population thus
providing them with employment opportunities
Question 3
Tourism policy
The number one policy that should be in place is the tourism policy. There should be a well-
known and recognized tourism policy that will be able to guide all of the activities related to
tourism. This is due to the recognition of tourism as a major earner for the region.
The policy will outline the various steps to be taken to better improve the tourism sector such as
ways to grow the demand of the region as a tourist destination. Although the number of tourist
has increased, there is still need to increase even further in order to fully maximize on the
potential of the region as a tourist site.
The policy will put in place marketing strategies to be used by both the government and the local
citizens in wooing and bringing more tourists to the area. There will also be the inclusion of

infrastructure development that is fundamental in ensuring that the visitors are not
inconvenienced during access of the region or during their stay.( Strauss, and Lord, 2001).
The implication of this policy is that there will be provision of better facilities for the visitors
which would make their stay comfortable and this will attract more visitors to the place. Also the
policy will contribute to the number of visitors entering the country to increase which will in turn
bring a lot of revenue and a growth in the economy.
Environment policy
The environment is greatly affected by tourist activities and thus there needs to be an
environmental policy that will put in place measures to conserve and promote the same in order
to maintain Tasmania as a leading tourist and destination area.
Tourists love a nice and clean environment and would not in any way visit an area where the
environment is pathetic and filled with burst sewage systems. The local community together with
the government needs to come together and work towards ensuring that the environment is not
greatly affected by the tourism and vice versa. The policy needs to formulate strict measures and
penalties that will be imposed to anyone who is found harming the environment in any way.
There needs to be a clear and well laid out plan on how the environment will not be depleted as
the tourist activities thrive. (Weaver, and Oppermann, 2000).Tourism needs environment for t to
prosper and thus this is a big priority. The implication of this policy is that there will be adequate
conservation of the environment upon which tourism thrives and this will in turn promote the
tourism activities in the region leading to higher returns from the sector.
