Q1. Integrate theory and research to critically analyse the mega trends in tourism and
hospitality industry
According to Buckley, et. al. (2015), the natural science type theory states that there are various
trends in global and hospitality industry which have negative as well as positive influences on
the future growth of both sectors. The mega-trend can be referred as a major change in
environmental, economic, social conditions which can substantially change the way of living of
all individuals. There are various megatrends which force private and public companies to make
changes in governance models, social systems and business processes. Some most important
megatrends which influence hospitality and tourism sector are great expectations, forever young,
more from less, the skill highway, virtually here and so on. Among these trends more from less is
a most important megatrend which can influence future growth and direction of hospitality and
tourism sector.
The more form less trend highlight that there are very few supplies and energy, natural minerals,
food and water resources which are very much essential for maintaining lifestyles and human
existence. The biggest positive impact of this megatrend is that it encourages government,
organisation and other people to explore different ways through which they can maintain their
quality of life within world’s limited resources (Leonidou, et. al., 2013).Also, it motivates
tourism and hospitality organisations to adopt sustainable tourism activities so that they provide
a better experience to their customer with limited natural resources.
Moreover, there is the huge negative impact on more form less trend because it forces companies
to use their available resources in an optimum manner which can result in poor hospitality and
tourism services. Both industries totally depend upon natural resources and unavailability of
those natural resources can lead them to negative growth and development. Apart from this,
limited supplies of water and food resources force tourism companies to make changes in their
business processes, systems and strategies so that they can cooperate with such mega drivers as
well as trends (Hajkowicz, et. al., 2012). Hence, it can be said that more from less have positive
as well as negative impact on hospitality and tourism sector. For dealing with negative influences
of more from less mega trend it is very much essential for hospitality and tourism to adopt new
methods and strategies so that it can provide better services by using limited natural resources.
