The aim of this paper is to provide a detail description of the tourism industry sector along with
the career opportunities in this sector. The paper also discusses the career challenges faced
within the sector and the most appealing aspect of the tourism industry.
Detail description of the industry sector
The tourism industry in Australia is considered to be a vital part of their economic development.
This is one of the most effective industries for the country to attract local as well as foreign
people. The tourism industry deals with the tourist and provides them with the suitable package
including travel, food and leisure to the people while travelling to the various part of the country
(Ismail et al., 2018). The tourism industry provides 24*7 services to their tourist so that they are
able to get the best experience of the place.
Career opportunities
In the tourism industry, there are numerous career opportunities for people. This is due to the fact
that the tourism industry has numerous sectors, and it is also associated with the hospitality
industry. The most effective career opportunities in this sector are the travel agents, tour guide,
hotel manager, tour operator, event as well as conference organiser PR manager and the leisure
activity co-ordinators (Mohanty, Swain, and Besra, 2018). This industry provides vast career
opportunities for the students that have enrolled in the travel and tourism sector.
Career challenges
In every sector, the employees have to deal with numerous challenges for maintaining their
position within the industry. In the tourism sector, the primary challenge that has been faced by
the employees is the unequal treatment, poor payment system along with the working condition,
the security issue of the tour provider and mostly the tour guide (Lu, Lu, Gursoy, and Neale,
2016). There are other career challenges also that are associated with the working activities and
the organisational activities, which involves the raciest problem along with the discrimination
and even the language barriers.

The most appealing aspect of the tourism industry is as follows;

 Chance of interacting with numerous travellers that some of the time give new meaning

 Allow the people to share their views and their experience with each other
 Help to fulfil the bucket list of most of the travellers and also allow the tour guide to be a
part of their journey
