1.2
The trends in destination touring have changed over the years. There is a huge shift seen in the
demands of the tourists as not just the preferences and expectations of the tourists have
changed but a lot of focus has been given to the geography of the location (Theobald, 2012).
Tourists are no longer just fascinated by the historical monuments but are also being impacted
by the cultural and social environment of the destination.
The tourism industry has also been hugely impacted by the cost involved in tourism. The
tourists are more likely to visit places with valuable experience but low involvement of costs.
There are various places which have been highlighted over the years for providing high-value
experiences in low costs involved. Destinations like Mexico, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc.
have gained popularity for cost-friendly tourism. Another factor in having a major impact on
tourism is technology. With its use, tourists are inclined towards the destinations where online
methods are easily available (Bethapudi, 2013).
Through various surveys, it has been found that the tourists are increasingly being very specific
about the areas of expenditure during their tours. The highest preference for expenditure has
been on food and drinking experiences. Travel accommodations have been at the least priority
for the tourists and are more inclined towards the events or festivals of the destination place.
