Tourism Hospitality Management
Discussion Topic: Understanding the internal environment is a necessary attribute of a
modern tourism and hospitality manager
Tourism and hospitality is a highly-dynamic sector. It requires an all-round professional
to effectively manage it. An ideal tourism and hospitality manager should, therefore, be
knowledgeable on all the changes that occur within ad out of the industry.
One of the most fundamental attributes of a modern-day tourism and hospitality manager
is the understanding. The manager should have a sound knowledge of the internal environment
in which he or she operates. A proper understanding of the internal environment can equip the
manager with enough information on the organization, its human and non-human resources
(Schuckert, Liu & Law 2015). Hence, the manager can be in a good position of making rational
decisions regarding the appropriate strategies to employ in managing and motivating the
workers. The current employees can work well if they are motivated and given the right
encouragement to dedicate their energy to deliver best services to the organization (Rahimi,
Okumus & Köseoglu 2017). In addition, such an understanding is crucial because it gives the
managers an opportunity to understand the strengths, weakness, and risks that might be
impacting on the progress of the company. Each company has got its uniqueness that must be
addressed for it to achieve its full-potential (Bowie, Buttle, Brookes & Mariussen 2016). Thus,
the modern-day manager must do all these so as to enjoy a competitive advantage in the highly-
competitive tourism and hospitality market.

The advancements in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have
revolutionized the society. Today, all the business entities are scrambling to have an online
presence. The availability and accessibility to the internet and internet-enabled gadgets like
Personal Computers (PCs), ipad, and smartphones has boosted electronic-commerce (e-
commerce).
For a modern-day tourism and hospitality firm to appeal to the online market segment, it
must have an effective website. The website is good because it links the company to millions of
potential clients. However, for this goal to be realized, the websites must be properly managed.
The blogs should be as interactive as possible (Rahimi, Okumus & Köseoglu 2017). There are
many tactics that can be used to enhance the interactivity of the blog. First, the information
should be clear, simple, and precise (Kuo, Belland & Kuo 2017). Besides, the blog or website
should support a direct interaction among the users. That can be done by creating a forum for the
readers or giving room for comments, feedbacks, and reviews. Last, but not least, the blog should
be aesthetic (Wu & Pearce 2016). Meaning, its layout, design, and architecture should be
appealing to the eyes of the users. If all these are availed, the blogs can be so interactive.
Discussion Topic: Further Discussion
The course is quite educative because it gives useful information on the management of a
tourism and hospitality sector. From the research conducted, it is obvious that the tourism and
hospitality sector has become challenging. There are many dynamics such as stiffening
competition, human resources management, and other issues that must be addressed each day.

findings. Indeed, the modern-day tourism and hospitality managers should be knowledgeable and
informed (Aday, Lui & Walls 2017). The managers should spare their time to study and
understand the internal environment in which they operate. Through this, the managers can be
empowered to make feasible decisions that can be relied upon to solve real problems (Bowie,
Buttle, Brookes & Mariussen 2016). The other important point that can be extracted from the
discussions is the role of internet in the tourism sector. As clearly-illustrated by many learners,
the use of blogs can be of great significance in boosting the tourism business. However, for this
goal to be attained, the blogs should be designed to be as interactive as possible.
