Koc, Erdogan & Boz, Hakan, 2014. Psychoneurobiochemistry of tourism marketing. Tourism
Management, 44, p.140.
Objectives:
The aim is to provide all the possible influences of Psychoneurobiochemistry methods that
influence the marketing of tourism.
Methods:
The primary method of data collection is used. In this study, a questionnaire is sent to 90 people
asking them about the psychological factors that affect the tourism industry. This questionnaire
focus on the ways by which a traveler can be impacted either in a positive way or in a negative
way.
Major findings:
This study shows that emotions and moods can affect the behavior of the traveler. Melatonin,
circadian rhythm and photoperiod’s study are the major finding of this article. These are the
hormone states that get secreted by the pineal gland in the brain.
Discussion:
Tourism is one of the largest and most revenue generated industry in the market, this industry
also generates job opportunities for the millions of people. According to the research, this is the
industry which contributes around 7% in the world’s gross domestic product in the year 2011.
Therefore, the knowledge and study of tourism in terms of the micro level also. This study
mainly focuses on consumer behavior with respect to tourism. The term
"Psychoneurobiochemistry" refers to group factors responsible for the disciplines of neurology,
psychology, biology, and chemistry. These are the brain's factors which influence tourism
consumers both in terms of psychological existences and physiological. These factors are
analysed by the exploring neurotransmitters which includes dopamine, serotonin, and melatonin.
