CHAPTER 2: LITERTURE REVIEW
Significance of tourism in rural area
According to opinion of Butnaru Gina Ionela and Alina Haller (2020) rural tourism is
explained as experience of country that encompasses the wider range of the activities as well as
attractions which taken place in agricultural for the known urban areas. In the rural area tourism
have been found to enhance business, employment generation and income in reason which are
seen to be helpful with Economic as well as social development.Rural tourism is mainly focus on
the actively participating in the rural lifestyle. Several villages can be facilitating the tourism
because there are many hospitable and villagers are eager to welcome the visitor. It involves
large open areas, lower rates of tourism growth and visitor ability to explore agricultural and/or
natural ecosystems directly. A significant form of tourism is agro-tourism, which means visiting
a farm for the pleasure, education or active participation of a farms or operations, on an
agricultural, horticultural or agro-industrial basis. Rural tourism avoids a replacement of viable
conventional jobs and gives rural residents business opportunities and generates new
employment.
As contrary to this Cornelissen (2017) Tourism has several advantages for the rural areas.
This activity generate the local income, growth of welfare valuable contributed to the local
economy and also generate employment to local people. Rural tourism can serve as necessary
source of the tax revenues for the local solutions and also promote uses as well as sale of the
local food items. There is much concern as to the degree to which such advantages are
accomplished. It is definitely clear that tourism will make a significant contribution to rural
income both at the tourist operator's level and more generally in the local economy, as a medium
of economic development and diversification.
Current effects of tourism in developing the rural area within UK
On the basis of Anastasia Petrou, Dimitris Skuras and Gordon Clark (2020) Tourism has
been indicated as better development strategy for United Kingdom rural areas. By direct and
indirect impacts, tourist attracts more foreign exchange, investment and also stimulates local
economic with significant multiplier impact on several areas of an economy. In the rural
England, 10.6% of the local business units are in the tourism related to the industries. In context

to this, with spend at £3.1 billion on domestic overnight trips and there were 850 million visitors
and 1900 million tourist. While the visitors may come to British countryside in order to enjoy its
scenery for traditional food and drink, trickle-down impact of money they spend benefits wider
sector of community. In this, farmers and some other land managers is linchpin of whole system.
Their importance is not only as food producer but also as countryside the manager cannot be
overstated.
As contrary to this Davies, (2018) tourism also provides the several benefits to the rural
communities. This places minimum cost burden on the local Economics than developing entirely
new sectors. This is not essential dependent on the investment support from outside community.
In addition to this, tourist gives boost to travel oriented business and their main focus is to
increasing the rural tourist. Travel to the rural areas gives advantages to tourist. They can easily
develop appreciation as well as understanding about the natural beauty of rural areas, cultural
value in also ecosystem. They can acquire the knowledge regarding the sustainable lifestyle of
visiting Eco tourist attractions.
Challenges which tourism sector face while enhancing the rural area of UK
According to opinion of Piali Haldar (2020) rural tourism has been more sought after area
of Investigation but there is lot of attention has been provided on developing strategy is not on
execution path and impact of strategies on the locals has been unknowingly overlooked. This is
the main reason that different strategies as well as schemes developed through government for
the rural tourism have not provided right output. There are some challenges faced by tourism
industry while increasing the rural area in United Kingdom. It is necessary tourists has been
included by designing rural Tourism Development strategies because it helps in developing the
positive impact in mindset of the visitors while they travelling in the rural areas and also take
interest in the travelling. There is sustainability has been seen as noble cause and this should be
incorporated while designing as well as developing any kind of strategies. Attend local culture
place a necessary role in success of rural tourism department. Local culture may be used one of
the element of tourism. It is necessary for the local communities to provide the overview of the
local culture to tourism and also give knowledge about the importance of local culture.

As contrary to this Dolezal, Trupp and Bui (2020) knowledge also plays necessary rule in
success of rural tourism. If locals are uneducated then this will develop more skill gap and will
ruin local Tourism Development. In order to promoting the rural area development the support of
land is necessary. But there is an issue of lack of Government support, physical communication
and trained manpower main blocks that hindering success of the rural tourism development in
United Kingdom. Other than this, language is also a main factor and success of rural Tourism
Development. If the local people are not efficient in understanding language of tourist then there
will need to be face more loss to tourist sector and this may develop bad image of United
Kingdom tourism infrastructure.

CHAPTER 3: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
It is considered as a necessary process that assists a researcher in undertaking an
investigation in structured manner. This involves many methods and techniques used through an
investigator to gather relevant information and data on the particular issue and subject area. This
allows the researcher to make entire studies credible and accurate. Therefore, a correct and
sufficient method is necessary for the researcher in order to easily draw a reasonable conclusion
in the study. There has been Research onion considered as it was developed through Saunders et.
al.(2007). Different layers included in research onion given below:
Research Philosophy- In conducting present research, there has been interpretivism
research philosophy used because it is based on the qualitative methodology and it is helpful in
develop empathy with specific subject area. The main reason behind using this philosophy is that
its main focus is on gain insights to experience of authors regarding the idea of current effect of
tourism in the development of rural area in UK (Fang, 2020).
Research Approach- The analysis of the data obtained depends largely on the method the
researcher wants to analyze the data. It is therefore very important for researchers to thoroughly
analyze and then determine if they should be inductive or deductive on a specific method (Hall
and Gössling, 2016).
Present investigation included the inductive approach because it is related with the
qualitative method. The main reason behind using this approach is that provides the detailed
information regarding the particular area.
Research strategies- Questionnaire has been used as the main strategy in this investigation.
The main reason behind using this strategy is that it provides the better understanding related to
specific subject area by developing the different questions and fill from the respondents (Hall
and Gössling, 2016).
Research Choice- There has been qualitative method used as a research choice because it is
able to give the accurate as well as reliable information regarding the specific subject area. One
of main advantages of using qualitative method includes of having detailed information which

will allow the investigator to correctly conclude at the conclusion of the investigation (Lun,
Pechlaner and Volgger, 2016).
Time horizon- Cross- sectional time horizon has been used as this provides the equal time
or proper time for conducting the research related activities in an effective manner. This is
helpful in providing the positive outcomes to an investigator.
Data collection and analysis- Primary method of data collection has been used as to
developing the questionnaire regarding getting information about rural area development in
tourism in United Kingdom country. This consists different questions and through this collected
information within less time period. On the other hand, there has been thematic analysis method
used for analysis the collected data (Quaranta, Citro and Salvia, 2016). This provides a
tremendous flexibility as one of the main advantage of thematic research. It helps researchers
with various analytical backgrounds to participate in this type of analysis, providing flexible
method of knowledge analysis. It approach focuses mainly on the analysis of patterns or meaning
in data.
Sampling- It is described as method by which the choice of groups of people can be made
available from the entire population so that data can be gathered on behalf of the entire
population. There has been probabilistic sampling method used by including the random
sampling. Through using this method, there have been 40 respondents chosen which the staff
members of an organization (Roberts, Hall and Morag, 2017).
Ethical consideration- It is related to follow all the ethical norms and values through an
investigator by conducting a research. Researcher should use the authentic sources for collection
of data. It is a responsibility of researcher not to leak information of the respondents. Ethics
avoid data from being misrepresented and this encourages the honesty that is the main purpose of
research. It is necessary to keep the data collected behind the point. Besides this, the key
consideration should be considered in order to carry out work in coordinated way (Sindiga,
2018).
