INTRODUCTION
Tourism sector is part of service industry so for them satisfaction of customers play important
role. Organisations working within respective sector are performing their operations in such manner as
they will able to make customer satisfy. Employees play important role in satisfying customers needs
and wants in effective manner so while hiring candidate HR manager analyse that candidate have
required skills or not (Erazo and et. al., 2019). In this assessment, sets of required skills for within
tourism sector will discuss along with this professional development plan will be design for
developing skills required within tourism sector.

people who work in tourism sector
Tourism sector is part of service industry and for them customer satisfaction play important
role. So they, hire such candidates who have skills required for serving customers in effective manner.
Here, skills means ability of carrying out task with determined outcomes often in given amount if
energy, time or both of them (Elbaz, Haddoud and Shehawy, 2018). In simple term it can be said that,
skills can be the innate only as well as it is classified within two parts i.e., domain-general and
domain-specific skills. For instance, within domain of work some general skills are teamwork, time
management, leadership, self-motivation and many more. On the other hand, domain-specific skills
will only utilise for specific job role. In addition to this, skills generally need certain environmental
stimuli as well as situation for assessing level of skills which will be shown and utilised. It is
important for me to develop several skills for working within tourism industry. There are three broad
categories of skills on which I have to work on these are technical, conceptual and human. Here, first
two can be substituted with hard as well as soft skills. These skills are as follows:-
Customer service skills is the one thing which will help me in working within tourism sector
in more effective manner and also assist me meeting customers’ expectations (Andrades and
Dimanche, 2019). Moreover, customer’s service is related to both positive as well as proactive. In
some case, there are difficult customers also bit it is important for me to smile, polite and remaining
professional while serving them. Along with this, cultural awareness is also a skill which I need to
develop in tourism sector people travel from one place to another where cultures are different. Thus,
for me as employees of tourism sector it is important to have knowledge about different culture. Such
knowledge and skills will help me in serving customers in more effective manner.

Communication skills is important for working within every industry but especially in
tourism sector. While working in this sector I have deal with people who are from variety of age,
nationalities, background as well as temperaments. Thus, it is important for me to communicate in a
manner which is both clear and understandable as well as represent to the brand with I am working.
For making customers comfortable and understanding things it is important for me to have proper
communication skills. Moreover, language skills is also important for working in respective sector as
it is important for me to learn different language because people from different nations travel and

for me to conduct discussion on their travelling so it is important for me to develop some language
skills. In addition to this, team working skills is also important for me to work as a part of tourism
sector. Thus, I have to work on team working sills because it is essential to serve customers in
appropriate manner and also assist in accomplishing organisational goals as well as objectives.
In organisation there are several employees sometimes working with each other create problem
in company as well as with dynamic business environment also. For me it is essential to learn
problem solving skills in effective manner so that I can perform daily basis activities related to my
job role in appropriate way. For me it is important for learn all these skills as it will help in gaining
better future opportunities within tourism sector as well as also in serving customers effectively. Apart
from this, there are some major steps which I have to take for developing skills as well as knowledge.
