INTRODUCTION
In this business sector, production consumption, operations as well as functions are
important without which it is not possible to achieve higher productivity. In this competitive
market, it is essential for hospitality industry to be active and conduct internal analysis so that
operational problems are identified in appropriate way (Deže, 2017. Without solving problems
within business, it is not possible to achieve objectives in proper manner. Main aim of this report is
to critically understand the importance of operational issue within hospitality or tourism sector.
Four Season Hotel & Resorts, a five star hotel headquartered in Canada. Firm deals in hospitality
services and provides wide range of services such as lodging, room booking and cancellation, food
& drinks services etc. It has many competitor such as Four Season Hotels, The Ritzz London and
many more. This report comprises of operational issue & importance, models linked with
operational issue, case of operational issue and recommendations.

Operational issue are defined as kind of problem that occur during working function of
business. There are various type of operational issues such as local productions, cyber risks,
regulation and compliance, managing overheads, listening to feedbacks, uncertainty of situations,
etc. From chosen case study of Four Season Hotel, it is seen that they have been facing operational
issue of local production in their business at larger scale within their firm as because of increasing
competition to businesses due to rivalries in market is leading to high cost of suppliers & scarcity of
resources. Local production is defined as strategy to provide local communities with better
sustainability & new job opportunities by properly scanning environment (Dogru, 2016). It is
essential for manager of hotel to deal with this issue in correct way because hotel has many
personal credentials and data of users, guests who visit to their hotels and it is necessary to provide
them with better quality or services. Many wide range of suppliers are being adopted by rivalry
industries who enter into hotels profit & loss statement & uses it as a strategic tool to decrease the
competition in market. Due to unskilled employees within management, it become difficult for firm
to achieve higher standards of business.
This has been seen that it is advisable for them to overcome with issue of production such
as skilled labour shortage, managing sales leads, intimating of new technological advances etc.
These are some of local production issue which are faced by Four Season Hotel & Resorts.
This negative impacts upon their operation and functions of workforce as well as firm.

Further, manager of hotel is being taking effective measures to overcome with this issue so that
higher productivity is being achieved without facing any problem during processes. Due to this
local production issue, it is becoming difficult for them to expand their business at global scale in
proper manner. To deal with issue, they have changed their staff access to system to allowing access
to few individual only. Technology advancement is important as for achieving higher development
as well as growth. But when adapting it, proper measures are needed to be adopted so that risk do
impacts on function of business. Therefore, by using correct applications of technology in business,
it is easy to achieve competitive benefits. Also, it is duty if manager to identify these threats and
problems that occur within local production.
To solve problems faced in local production, it is crucial to focus on business environment
through both external as well as internally so that they are able to access to appropriate type of
strategies for examined problems (Jarzebski, 2020).

Operational issues are necessary to be examined so that it is easy to carry out all activities
in most effective manner. In relevance of chosen hotel, it is becoming difficult for them to manage
decisions & resolve issue. It is responsibility of manager & leaders to make assure that correct type
of models are being applied. These issues are required to be solved in most efficient manner. With
properly applying of frameworks, it is necessary to analyse that inhospitality industry, problems are
required to be solved within period of time (Jarzebski, 2020). Due to local production, work is
completed within time period. Manager of selected hotel need to be aware about these issues on
basis of which strategies are implemented effectively. So, models such as Sustainable
Development Goals by United Nations (The 17 Goals ) has been applied to deal or understand
these operational issues. It is further discussed below-
SDG- Sustainable Development Goals
According to this framework, it states that there are 17 goals or global goals which are
linked with management to achieve sustainable future. It was set by United Nations General
Assembly. It is beneficial framework which is required to be adopted by selected entity as it help
in making effective decisions within business. Leaders and managers needed to apply these models
through which they were able to make tactics (Leal Filho, 2018).
This framework is useful through which it is easy to accomplish goal within period of time. It
basically includes 17 goals which are given as follows-
1 – Poverty- At global scale, poverty has been rising at wider level. It is essential to focus

2- Zero Hunger- It states that hunger is also rising at rapid scale. Hunger for investing in
technology and which leads to fulfilling needs of individual ends hunger. In relevance of

reduce hunger of individual so that resources are carried out accordingly (Mingotto, 2020).
3- Good health & well, being- Main aim of this goal is to promote health as well as well
being in-between age groups. Through this, it is easy to fight against with diseases in most
efficient manner. Providing good health leads to better workforce & which increases
productivity at higher scale. It is crucial to achieve this goal so that benefits are achieved.
4- quality education- According to SDG they states that it is necessary to provide better
and quality of education to every men, women, girls to increase equality at all level. In
reference of chosen hotel, issue of local production can be resolved by them as when
quality of education is achieved it is easy to hire skilled employees for work (Minor, 2020).
5- Gender equality- This is another goal set by SDG in which it states that achieving of
gender equality leads to decrease of child marriage, etc. Through maintaining gender
equality, it is easy to produce better workforce in management which also results in
positive output and less occurring of risks. In context of Four Season Hotel, operation issue
can be resolved through gender equality, better work environment is being achieved.
6- Clean water and sanitation- It is also essential goal which is being needed to achieve
in which main aim is to provide & have clean water as well as sanitation. In reference of
chosen hotel, they are required to provide clean water & sanitation to their employees so
that production process is carried out properly.
7- Affordable & clean energy- In this goal, main aim is to deliver and have access to
reliable as well as clean energy so that work and activities are completed on time. For
example- in local production issue faced by Four Season Hotel, they provide electricity &
other key renewable energy in appropriate manner.
8- Decent work & economic growth- Main purpose is to achieve economic growth by

processes. Due to operational issue, it is difficult for management to achieve this objective. Due to
issue of local production like lack of skilled employees they are unable to operate or expand
business. Strategies are not effective reliable which results in negative output. To cope up with this
problem, HR of firm is implementing effective strategies. Moreover, it is examined that they are

strength or weakness so that suggestions are proposed accordingly. As in case of chosen hotel, they
need to adopt these recommendations so that it is easy for them to cope up with operational issues
effectively. In hospitality sector, it is necessary to be aware about appropriate solutions on basis of
activities are further processed. Therefore, recommendations have been discussed as follows-
It is recommended to selected hotel, they should carry out their activities in such a way that

manager should be aware about problems that can impact upon business at wider scale.
To reduce operational issue, it is advised to Four Season Hotels and Resorts that they
should have appropriate information regrading skilled or unskilled employees within their
business organisation so that task are divided accordingly (Dogru, 2016).
Furthermore, it is also suggested they should need to have effective HR system which can
track and identify the progress or performance level of operation & production department
so that risk or threats can be analysed properly.

countries which assist in enhancing productivity of business. Thus, it is necessary to access
