Different types of resorts and their challenging issues
Resorts are a self-contained residential institution that aims to supply much of the needs of a
tourist on the property, like food, beverage, housing, leisure, recreation, and shopping.
Property that offers an assortment of facilities usually containing recreation and leisure
opportunities, the phrase resort is used (Bachvarov, 2016). Few other resorts are as well
townhouse structures which are rentals or owed marginally lower or fully owned townhouse.
Resorts are often not an industrial institution run by a singular corporation, but this type of
facility has become more popular in recent years. Depending on the geographical
characteristics and demand, different types of resorts have emerged. Different types of resorts
with their characteristics have been discussed below;
Ski Resort
A facility built for skiing, ice skating, as well as other mountain sports is known as a ski
resort. Some ski resorts throughout Europe are cities or communities in or next to a skiing
range, a snowy region with slopes, and a rack of ski ramps. It is more popular for ski
destinations to occur far away from cities in the United States; therefore this type of resort is
typically vacation resorts, mostly intent and conscience, where the key event is skiing. These
are found all over the world, excluding Antarctica (Bhat, et al. 2015). As they need a wide
drop, they are usually situated on hills. They have to obtain a minimum of 50 cm of ice as
well. Ski regions have designated routes, such as courses, trails, or slopes, for skiing. Usually,
ski resorts include one or two chairlifts that move people to the peak of mountains easily, as
well as to interlink the paths. Rope threads could be found on shorter slopes as well. For
transportation over broader ranges inside the ski zone, larger ski areas could have chairlift
lifts or aviation trams. Ski resorts are facing issue of scheduled maintenance and high cost of
investments are also required. In these type of resorts various people gets hurt and in this
manner while skiing various people face injuries as well.
In order to be safe, every ski resort has to have marked routes and exclude the unmarked
routes, which are not secure.
In bigger ski resorts, they offer shuttle bus, when the distance between the valleys is more
than 500 meters.
One of the most popular ski resorts is Whistler Blackcomb, located just two hours drive from
Vancouver and it is Canada’s premium Ski resort.
It has more than 200 runs and 37 lifts.
This resort welcomes everyone, as it offers activities for families, organize big events like
birthday parties and weddings. Despite that it is ski resort, it provide adventures in winter and
summer .

change their strategies and align business objectives in optimal manner. This would provide
the business to acquire higher knowledge in the context of modifying their service offerings
in such a way that high customer can be pitched in better way. Some of the challenges faced

impacting customer turnover for Whistler Blackcomb. As this is seen that due to global
warming lack of snow is being seen due to which lesser customer are visiting places. This is
the major challenge which is faced by Whistler Blackcomb as the resort is high in summer
sports and for that snow is the primal resource which is required. The major cause of global
warming are changing weather condition, climate change and energy consumption. In global
warming exertion of carbon dioxide is seen due to which snow get melted and earth is unable
to cop up with solar radiations. For hospitality industry global warming is the major
challenge as due to this tourist attraction get decreased and customer retention may be
minimized. In the context of Whistler Blackcomb as the resort is high in sports and tourist
attraction and due to which this is seen that by implication of global warming their tourist
attraction get decreased.
Expensive to set up
The another challenge is associated with cost of setting up as cost of setting up a
resort is high and chances of risk are also higher. So this is not possible for people to own a
resort and initiate various entertainment activities. In the context of Whistler Blackcomb as
they are engaged in entertainment activities so this is a challenge for them to recover their
cost in such a way that they can deal with all those costs and earn profits as well. Besides this
it is riskier for Whistler Blackcomb to calculate their overall cost as they are associated with
numerous extra ordinary expenses which are unpredictable.

damaging wildlife and customer repetition.
Global warming is the major issue faced within resorts as this is directly linked with

of high pollution and this is the major reason that when industrial waste and pollution is
rising the major impact is seen over decreased visitors at tourist places. This has been
observed that level of sea is rising as due to high thermal expansion ice based seas are
melting and this is the major challenge faced by resorts those are running behind natural
beauty. For Whistler Blackcomb as the resort is full of sports and natural scenic environment
so this is imperative that due to storms and end of summer seasons they may face difficulties
in running their gaming activities throughout the year and attract customers in the same pace.

easy task for resort owner to clean the same after every slot of visitors. In the context of
Whistler Blackcomb as they are managing numerous activities related with summer and
winter sports so in this way they are required to manage the level and quality of water so that
harms can be prevented to their visitors.
This is being observed that every year 2000 beaches are closing this is the major
reason that overflow of sewage is seen and urban agriculture is being run off. For Whistler
Blackcomb as they are wholly dependent on natural beauty and beaches so due to shutting
down of beaches this will give high negative impact over their visitors in short term manner.

Most people going on a vacation are looking for a nice place to stay, but it is also important
to find a good deal.
One of the resorts I chose for this report is BLUE ORQUIDEA
It is located in Gran Canaria in Spain and it is a great place for families. Sun, sea and palm
trees is all it takes for an amazing holiday for parents and children. It has exciting offers the
little ones, that will make their stay unforgettable. There is a kids pool with water slides,
mini disco, children’s buffet, a range of fun activities .Also, they offer child care, so the
parents can take advantage of their stay in the hotel. There are many water sports and spa
treatments available in the hotel.
Blue Orquidea offers half board and all inclusive packages. I will explain about the All
inclusive package and I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages for the guests and the
business.
All Inclusive package means that you pay fixed price for a night, for person and you can limit
the spending to this price. The hotel provide everything needed, in terms of food, drinks and
entertainment., for no extra cost.
In this package there is Buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner, children’s buffet, take away
snacks at the pool and local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
This price also include accommodation and some of the activities, like sauna and sensory
showers.
The guests can also enjoy Aqua aerobics, group exercise, fitness room, soccer, beach
volleyball and dance aerobics free of charge.
For customers all inclusive means that they can have a nice vacation without worrying too
much for their budget.
Disadvantage of all inclusive is that guest don’t have the flexibility to travel around and to
have their meals where and when they want.
Most of the time they spent in the resort and don’t get to explore the local culture.
Since the food and drinks are included in the price, some people temped to over eat and drink
too much.

The advantage for the business is that the organization have an estimate profit in advance.
Based on this ,they can increase or decrease the package price, in order to reach the desired
earnings.
Disadvantage is that, since the food is included in the price and it is served as a buffet, they
cant predict the exact amount of cooked food they will need and this could cause a food
waste and loss of money.
Another resort I will discuss is hotel Cavtat in Dubrovnik, Croatia. This hotel offers a range
of rooms, most of them with a balcony with a view of the sea or the park.
For those who want to stay in this hotel, there are two options – bed and breakfast or half
board.
In this report I will explain about the bed and breakfast package.
Here, for a fixed price, the guests can have a overnight accommodation and breakfast, which
is normally served as a buffet.
The difference between All inclusive and bed and breakfast is that with this one, the guests
have freedom to choose if they want to spent their day in the hotel or to explore the area.
The advantage for the customers is that they can see the local landmarks and to have meals at
different local restaurants.
Also there is a good option for those who want to stay in the hotel for the day. They can treat
themselves in the spa facilities for and extra charge.
In the Cavtat hotel, guests can have meals at the Bar Restaurant Cenzura, while enjoying
beautiful views in calm atmosphere.
Bed and breakfast gives flexibility for the customers, but they can’t control their spending.

This option is preferred by people who like to explore, travel and interact with the locals.

Conclusion
The resort business is very much profitable and competitive as well. In this industry, there is
no substance of ensuring high-quality services and products to the customers. As the resorts
are now getting engaged with other services, now they are offering tangible and intangible
both types of products and services to the customers. That is why the resort businesses are
also focusing on having their manufacturing firms which may reduce their costs and increase
the profits. The resort businesses in the UK is also growing fast as this country is getting
more foreign visitors day by day due to rapid transaction of information and ease to visit
foreign countries. That is why this industry should get proper nurture from the government
and provide with many facilities.
