Executive summary
Main purpose of conducting this inquire project is to analyse the concept of training and
development and its role in improvement of employee’s performance. For achieving this
purpose, researcher used both primary and secondary source of data collection. In case of
secondary source, they used books, articles, journals for literature review. Under primary data
collection, questionnaire has been applied by researcher. Both sources helped researcher by
providing reliable and detailed information about the current topic.
Introduction
Training and development introduces to educational activity within an organisation to
increase skills and knowledge of employees while giving instruction and information on how to
perform specific tasks effectively. Training and development plays an important role in
improving employee’s performance (Park, Kang and Kim, 2018). For this project, Morrison is a
chosen supermarket chain that was founded in 1899 by William Morrison. Company specialise
in selling of wide range of products such as clothing, food and drinks etc. Main purpose of
organisation is to conducting this project is to analysis importance of training and development
activities in enhancement of employee’s performance.

investigation such qualitative and quantitative. For executing current research activities,
investigator will be applied quantitative research which help in providing reliable information
that is measurable in nature and also assist in drawing a valid conclusion at the end of the
investigation.
Data collection: For gathering valid information, there are various type of method that help
investigator in analysing the facts and figures towards the selected topic and research area. This
can be classified on the basis of two method i.e. primary and secondary method of data
collection. Under this, both type of method will be used by investigator (Jaworski and et. al.,
2018). By using primary method, researcher prepare a structured questionnaire that includes
various close-ended questions that put Infront of selected respondents to gather actual
information about the specified research topic. On the other side, secondary source help in

carried out a literature review that is based on view points of different authors on the basis of
research topic. With the help of this researcher easily take right judgement and draw a reliable
conclusion.
Sampling: Under research it is refers to the procedure in which sample size will be selected
by researcher from huge population. In divided into two methods such as probabilistic and non-
probabilistic. For undertaking current research, probabilistic sampling technique will be used by
researcher in which participants select as per random basis wherein all they get equal
opportunities to be selected. By using this technique, investigator select 60 respondents that have
proper knowledge about the research topic and area as well.
Research approach: There are two type of approach such inductive and deductive. Under
this study, deductive research approach will be used as it help in evaluating the framework that is
measurable and also easily analysed (Hoque and et. al., 2018). This will assist in attaining
positive and accurate outcomes at the end of the research.

According to Bibi Ahmad and Majid, (2018), In this fast-changing corporate world training
and development for a company is an indispensable function. It is the least things which a
company can do for its employees. In context with an organisation¸ training provides a prime
opportunity to its employees so as to expand the base of knowledge, acquiring new skills,
enhance productivity level etc., It is not necessary that every individual is good in all skills as
nobody is perfect so, training and development tries to help a person in improving its
performance. Moreover, this will foster growth level of an individual and further its results can
be seen in the routine of an organisation such as how much profit a company is gaining, what is
their share market and many more.
Therefore, training and development can be determined as a educational process which
majorly emphasis on improving performance of an individual or a group.
Significance of training and development for enhancing employee's performance.
According to the Antony, (2018), Training and development is more important for an
organisation because with the use of this, they can easily improve performance level of their
employees. By attending training and development activities, employees can easily improved
employee satisfaction and morale, increased productivity, address weaknesses, adherence to

quality standards and increased innovation in new strategies and products. These are main
importance of training and development that get by employees. These significance support
employee’s in enhancement of its performance level at workplace. It turns to support company in
achievement of its long-term goals and objectives and also maintain of strong relationship with
employees. In Overall, training and development activity within an organisation has to provide
different importance to the business as well as employees in improvement of its performance and
productivity level within lesser time duration.
Challenges faced by Morrison while providing training to their employees.
According to Abualoush and et. al., (2018), Most of the companies implement training
programmes so as to enhance the skills acquired by its employees. But other than its positive
outcomes, there might be some challenges which a company can face while implementing the
same. So, some of the points are explained below for better understanding.
Hectic Employee schedule: As an individual, there can be a possibility a person has to
perform many roles such as at work, family life and other areas as well. Besides this, training and
development programme can act as a burden or stress. Therefore, as an employee he/she can
resist the training programme. For an organisation, this can be a biggest challenge as it can be the
matter of company’s performance at market level.
A dispersed workforce: With the expansion of business, dispersed workforce is a
common challenge and providing training to them is quite difficult. Cultural differences can give
rise to misunderstanding which can further result in inconsistent training.
Lack of commitment: While working in an organisation, involvement of employee is
very important. It becomes crucial for companies to engage its workers emotionally, cognitive
and behavioural because lacking in any of these can leads to improper training and development.
Therefore, organisation can use innovative ways for providing training as it will make them
connected with the corporation.
