AI Summary
This report, prepared for the ICT100 Foundations of Information Systems course, analyzes the selection of a new Transaction Processing System (TPS) for XYZ company to gain a competitive edge. The report begins with an introduction highlighting the importance of information systems in achieving competitive advantage. It then presents a detailed analysis of four different TPS systems (TPS1, TPS2, TPS3, and TPS4) using data provided in an Excel sheet, evaluating them based on transaction processing speed, system errors, and profitability. The analysis includes graphical representations of the data to justify the selection of the most suitable TPS. Furthermore, the report emphasizes the importance of correct data representation for effective decision-making. The conclusion summarizes the findings and recommends a specific TPS for the company, considering the reduction in management complexity and cost savings through automation. The report also mentions the importance of following a system development lifecycle model to avoid errors and improve efficiency. Finally, it includes a bibliography of relevant sources.

ICT100 FOUNDATIONS OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Introduction
The report is prepared for the development of a new Transaction Processing System
(TPS) for XYZ company such that the company can gain competitive advantage in the
market. With the growth of the business the complexity for the management of the tasks
increases and with the development of the information system the complexity of the
management of the business process can be reduced. The information system can also help
the organization to gain cost leadership by reducing the cost of business operation. It can also
differentiate the business from its competitors with the implementation of differential
function for having direct conversation with the customers and providing different value
added service for the improvement of customer relationship.
Transaction Processing System Selection
The transaction processing system is used for management of the transaction and for
getting faster transaction. With the development of the transaction process system the
reliability of the transactions improves and consistency is maintained for each of the
transactions performed.

With the development of the transaction processing system a real time information
can be fetched from the system. Here, the excel sheet can be used for getting the graph of the
total transactions based on the total processing system 1, total processing system 2, total
processing system 3, total processing system 4. The total, lowest, highest and average is also
demonstrated in the graph.

The pie chart is created for the identification of the system error for each of the
transaction processing system with the identification of the re entry required to be made due
to the system error. Thus the TPS2 is selected since it has less errors.

Importance of Data Representation
The correct representation of the data is important for reducing the error in the
information system and take effective decision according the data. The clarity in the
representation of data and the selection of the right data is important for the correlating it with
the other data that are needed to be analysed for getting the result. It helps in describing the
data using a finite set of values and it should be evenly distributed depending on its category.
Conclusion
From the above report it can be concluded that with the development of the
transaction processing system for the XYZ organisation the complexity in management of the
transaction can be reduced. The company can collect, modify, store or retrieve the transaction
of the enterprise for the management of the routine business transaction. It helps in reducing
the time and cost with the automation of the different repetitive operation for the management
of large volume of transactions. For the development of the information system a system
development lifecycle model should be followed that would help in development of the
information system following different phases such that there is no error in the final product.
It helps in increasing the efficiency of the current business process and reach more number of
people for management of the different service.
