Background of Study
Companies across the world are continuously moving towards digital business changes as
they are forced to make improvement in their business process and development of new business
opportunities as well as models (Lewis, 2015). Digitalization or digital-technology has extended
the reach of business enterprise, improved management decisions and speed of developing new
products and services (Novoseltseva, 2017). In other words, small business enterprises have used
new digital technologies to radically enhance their performance (Taylor, Bogdan and DeVault,
2015). It has also played important in transformation of business activities of organisation
regulation their business in the field of information technology sector (Hess and et.al., 2016).
There are various important business activities such as marketing, production, distribution and
marketing. In marketing, different technologies like social media, E commerce, internet and
direct mail have been used by small business enterprise to promote their products and services.
In operations, cloud computing technology have been used to store data base and information
related to business. Software like DBMS and Pay Packs are also digital technologies which are
used in human resource department at small business enterprise to collect and store information
about employees. Although. Online service, payment and booking facilities are the facilities
which are emerged after implementation of digital technologies.
It has provided them major support in development of software and functions to meet the
emerging requirements of their clients (Neuman, 2013). With an aim to change their users
traditional methods. Present research is conducted on analysing impact of digital technologies on
transformation of business activities of Softwire Ltd, based on London and are led by co
founders Pete Kenny, Phile Marsden and Dan Shavick, who all remain involved in the
company's day to day activities (Novoseltseva, 2017). It usually delivers software engineering
service, develop and design solutions and consultancy services to some leading UK's brands. In
order to undertake research, scholar has developed some important aims and objectives which
provides a direction to complete research and getting relevant outcomes.

In order to complete the research, proper plan has been made that disclose the work
performed by scholar to complete the project. Relevant project time frame and resources are also
analysed which are used to complete the study.
Cost: For completion of research, there is a requirement of financial resources. These financial
resources are also needs to allocated by scholar for different activities which he will complete in
this project. Proper framework has been developed to achieve the aims and objectives of project.
There are various important expenditure have been done
Risk: Present research also involves some risk and limitation which are occurred due to lack of
adequate financial resources and time duration.
Time: It implies to the time which is to be taken scholar for completion of project activities. In
present context, the total time of research is determined by the researcher is 54.5 days.
Communication: The scholar will communicate the progress of research to the team members
once in a week by Email and other communicate channel. It will also communicate with superior

to gain acceptance on selection of topic and action plan used to complete research. Further,
researcher will also interact with management of Softwire to proceed the further collection of
data and analysing of influence of digital technologies on business operations.
Quality: By using both primary and secondary research resource for data collection scholar has
made the research more reliable and valid. Literature and articles relevant to topic are used
collection of relevant information.
Project Scope: Scholar has carried out this project with the scope of analysing various digital
technologies which can be implemented by organisation for transformation of business activities.
Budget: The total budget of the project is determined to be at £2000.

P4 Small scale research by qualitative and quantitative research methods
For completion of investigation on the ways through which digital technology provides
infleunce on transformation of business activities of Softwire. Research methodology is analysed
as framework that is used by scholar for conducting small scale research on transformation of
business activities by using digital technologies in small business enterprise. Various important
qualitative and quantitative aspects of data collection is used by scholar to collect data and
interpretation of results. Below given are the important research methodologies which are used
for carrying out small scale research on transformation of business activities such as:

Research Philosophies: A philosophy is identified as feeling of scholar about the ways through
which the data related to the topic will be collected, analysed and used. The main objectives of
this is to analyse the belief of research (Berman, 2012). It has been classified in to two main
parts such as Positivism and interpretivism.
Present research is based on analysis transformation of business activities in small
business enterprise Softwire Limited. Research helps in identification of ways for collection,
measurement and interpretation. In this research scholar aims to use the combination of both
positive and interpretive philosophy in order under research effectively. Positive philosophy is
used to develop a structured plan for conducting research process and being able to derive the
solution from the data which gathered. Interpretivism philosophy is based on naturalistic view of
data collection through interview and observation. By using this, Scholar will be able to
accomplish aims and objectives as it helps in carrying out analysis on digital technologies which
has transformed business activities of small scale enterprise.
Research approach: It is also analysed complex aspects of undertaking research and also
considered as blue print for collection of information. Basically there are tow approaches of
research which are commonly used by scholar for undertaking research such as qualitative and
qualitative (Smith, 2015). The qualitative approach of research is used for analysing aim and
objectives of the research in theoretical aspect (Fitzgerald and et.al.,, 2014). Further, quantitative
method of research philosophy has been used by scholar for collection and computation of data
and information. In this research, scholar has carried out analysis of small business enterprise to
analyse transformation of business activities through digital technologies. In this research,
scholar has used the quantitative research approach to accomplish the research effectively
because it aids in computation and analysis of data effectively. Deductive research approach has
been utilized by scholar because it useful for testing assumptions related to transformation of
digital technology in small business enterprise.
Research Design: Making a design of conducting research refers to development of strategies
through which scholar will be able to integrate various components of research study in coherent
and logical manner (Neuman and Robson, 2014). It is also analysed as important for scholar to
collect the information related to impact of digital technologies on transformation of business
activities. In order to complete the research, it is important for scholar to carefully make

selection between the type of research design. In this research project scholar is executing on
small scale research on transformation of business activities through digital technologies in IT
sector. Research design helps integration of components in order to carry out small scale
research in coherent and logical manner.
There are mainly type of commonly used research design like exploratory and descriptive
research design. Exploratory research design is mainly focused on in-depth analysis of
information which is a time consuming and difficult methods. Further, descriptive research
design method aids the management in determining the theories related to the topic (Janowski,
2015). Thus, for completion of research appropriately scholar has used descriptive research
design methodology which provides an ability to researcher for analysing the theories.
Descriptive research design helps scholar in accomplishment of aims and objectives of research
on small business enterprise in IT sector. It also helps in addressing research problems in
appropriate manner.
Data collection: It is also important process used for collection and measurement of information
on the basis of relevant data about the company collected by scholar. Two methods of data
collection are there such as primary and secondary. These are developed with an aim to complete
the projects effectively by collecting information. This project is based on analysis of business
activities performed at small business enterprise in IT sector and impact of digital technologies
on those business activities. Data collection helps scholar in identification of relevant data
through interview, observation and analysis. Primary methods of data collection is considered as
more effective as it provides fresh data for undertaking research (Panneerselvam, 2014). It
involves two methods such as questionnaire and survey. In this study, Questionnaire methods is
utilized by scholar to collect information by framing questions related to the topic of
transformation of business activities through digital technology. Primary research methods helps
in making research more reliable and accurate as it provides reviews of participants on
transformation of business activities through digital technologies
Further, secondary source of collecting data involves collection of data from internet, book,
journals and other articles. Thus, in order to collect specific data related to Softwire, scholar had
decided to use the both primary and secondary method of data collection. Relevant articles relate
to topic have been identified through internet to carry out analysis of IT Sector in UK. Various

books and journals have also been used to collect secondary information on transformation of
business activities through digital technologies
Sampling: It is important methodology which is used by scholar in research for the purpose of
statistical investigation, specific people are selected from large population. Mainly it has been
divided in two parts such as probabilistic and non probabilistic. Probabilistic method is based on
quantitative approach and involves methods like random, systematic, stratified sampling (BNS
and HV, 2013). Non probabilistic method is based on qualitative approach and involves
convenience and purposive sampling. In this research, scholar has used Simple random sampling
method . 20 employees are taken and questionnaire has been provided to them for collection of
information. Simple random method is effective because in this each and every participant from
population will get a chance to be a part of sampling. It does not involve statistical analysis and
mathematical calculation.
Data analysis: Important framework which is used for analysis and interpretation of data for
making effective information. It is also analysed useful for delivery of information about the
outcomes achieved from undertaking research on impact technology on transformation of
business activities. Most effective methods in research because it makes the project more reliable
for users. It helps the users to understanding the concept of collected data in adequate manner. In
present research, researchers is using the thematic methods of data analysis in which charts and
graphs are used to present the information.
Ethical consideration: In this research, there are some ethical issues have been considered such
as informed consent and confidentiality of data (Silverman, 2016). It is important for scholar to
collect information from participants by taking consent of their supervisors at workplace. In this,
permission of participants and respective authority in softwire has been taken to avoid further
ethical issues. Moreover, data collected from employees will be kept confidential and after
completion of project it will be destroyed.
Research limitations: There are some issues have been faced researcher in collection data from
participants (Brinkmann, 2014). At initial stages, they have not provided cooperating due to their
IT policy but after taking permission from HODs, they have provided cooperation. Lack of time
duration has created problems in collecting specific information about activities performed by
organisation.

Data analysis
Analysis of research and findings have been carried out by using thematic
analysis method which is used for completion of qualitative analysis. Themes have
been prepared by scholar on the basis of findings and feedbacks of 20 participant.

and techniques have been used for interpretation of data and statistics which is
