Since past 150 years, Mayo Clinic’s key objective lies in giving utmost care to its
patients who need hope and healing. Mayo brother’s strong inspiration to serve people have
boldly conveyed in their mission statement, “To inspire hope, and contribute to health and
well-being by providing the best care to every patient through integrated clinical practice,
education and research” (Mayo Clinic Health System, 2018). Furthermore, the vision
statement of the organisation supports their mission statement to provide an incomparable
experience within healthcare system. By energising and engaging its employees around core
organisational culture and value, Mayo Clinic have made its patient gain unique experience.
Patnaik, et al. (2017) defines competency as minimum standards that are required by
individuals to perform a job. Competent leaders have requisite abilities and skills to complete
their tasks satisfactorily and ensures that every employee of organisation performs at least
according to minimal acceptance level. To manage a healthcare hospital like Mayo Clinic,
developing core competencies learned during the course can prove very significant for
leading the organisation effectively and according to the stated mission and vision of the
organisation.
Communicative and intrapersonal skills competencies provide leaders with the
essence of emanating and receiving transparent and clear information. This can be enabled
only if leaders are able to put forward their rationale that can further inspire others taking
organisational vision ahead. A good speaker requires being a good listener first and thus
strong and effective communication along with developing integrity skills competency will
help in demonstrating fair and honest work place that can help in achieving Mayo Clinic’s
mission values (Sonnino, 2016).

Conflict management competency proves very important while developing teams in a
workplace. According to Silipicevic & Masic (2012), an effective leader will always try and
blend diversity of ideas of team members to achieve core objective behind organisation’s
formation. Ethical competencies consider describing core business value and vision to fellow
members that proves another significant competency. Ethically and socially responsible
leaders will synchronise team energy and remove frictions that comes in between work and
organisational mission along with leading massive teams to gain massive outcomes.
Since healthcare individuals job remains tedious and continuous throughout the year,
their leaders must possess competency that enables them to balance work and life so that
personal health remains unaffected and motivated. Decision making ability is another
essential competency for today’s leaders to have capabilities in finding alternative measures
during the time of problem-solving techniques. Hence, personal professional development
strategy shall be considered even after being appointed as a team leader to remain acquainted
with current practices and technology in healthcare (Patnaik, Gupta, Kant, & Pillay, 2017).
The above paper describes about competencies learned during the course while
describing few of them that can help me in leading Mayo Clinic hospital as per vison and
mission stated in the above paper. The information gleaned from the course will help me in
transforming myself into a transformational leader as a transformational leader have all the
above-mentioned competencies to motivate and manage workplace effectively (Friedman,
2018). Therefore, my overall strategy to lead my chosen organisation will focus more on
becoming a transformational leader to become a charismatic and motivated person who can
share vison and mission of the company with fellow workers to lead my chosen organisation
effectively.
