INTRODUCTION
Transformational leadership is leadership theory where leader of company works with teams to
identify various changes that are highly needed, where it creates vision to respond to change
through inspiration. Sainsbury is second largest chain of supermarket in UK providing wide
range of products such as electrical, food and other. Present report will brief on various
challenges of company in context to its divers nature.
MAIN BODY
There are many challenges faced by Sainsbury in context to its diverse nature where it accounts
to changes in its management, leadership and organisation as a whole. Some of which are
described in brief above
CHALLENGES
Conflicts at workplace –
It states that conflicts at Sainsbury often takes place as a result of not matching up with the view-
points of different parties of business operations such as employees-employees, employees-
customers, employees- employers and various others. Conflict in company is uncertain to when
it can happens, so it is required on part of leadership and management of Sainsbury to
continuously and closely monitor and evaluate the same to encounter to efficient functioning of
company where disagreement between parties to conflict is resolved in efficient manner (Gupta,
Kulkarni, Khatri, 2018).
Leader and manager at Sainsbury in case of conflict resolution needs to ensures that they possess
sufficient knowledge and skill to handle the situation and to reach at a decision which is
beneficial for both the parties to conflict. This can be done be leaders in following some of steps
as mentioned below-
Clarifying what disagreement is which states that getting to hear heart of conflict. It
ensures what needs are not being made on both side of parties and to ensure mutual
understanding. It is required on part of leaders or managers to get as much information as
possible
Establishing common goals for both the parties to conflict where leaders and managers
focuses on establishing trust between parties to achieve and accomplish common goals
(McDonald, Shon, Kulkarni, 2016)

Discussing various alternatives and ways to reach to process of conflict resolution where
they can adopt style of democratic leadership to invite viewpoints, opinions and ideas in the
decision making process (Langford, 2017).
It should include determining barriers which can come in way of achieving desired
common goals of parties to conflicts of Sainsbury’s
Leaders and managers needs to build trust among conflicted parties to agree upon the best
ways to resolve conflict which is beneficial on both the grounds and for an organisation as a
whole (Liudmila, 2017).
And finally they to acknowledge the same of reaching the solution and determining
responsibilities of each party to ensure further avoidance of conflict in near future.
But if it leadership and management fails to face challenges of conflict in Sainsbury than
it will affect its business operation in term of employees not productive to work as they are
engaged in activities such as conflicts which result in their focus on non-useful things and leads
to non-completion of task without any due diligence
Changes in business strategies and policies
The biggest challenges that management, leadership and organisation as whole faces in
context to its changing environment of Sainsbury is changing with existing strategies to adapting
to new strategies to survive in marketplace and to be competitive where it lays huge
responsibilities on shoulders of leaders and managers at Sainsbury to implement the same as it
can make and break business in terms of earning high profits and accounts to huge volume of
sales all across its business operations, where leaders and managers of the company are expected
to highly creative and innovative with their thinking process, as if they fails to adapt with new
challenges of changing business strategy it may result in company leading to position where its
competitors come in picture and take an aided advantage to capture huge customer base
(Hodges,Howieson, 2017).
Leaders and managers needs to ensure with updated strategies and policies in its business
operations to ensure smooth functioning of business where it can assist and help its talented and
skilled employees to perform their task more efficiently and policies when implemented by
leaders in productive manner helps in defining employees satisfaction level and helps in
retention of the same.

But if Sainsbury does not manages with the same and its leaders fails to adopt to face the
challenges of changing its existing policies it may result in company developing an structure that
is not flexible in nature where it will account to several restriction and will lead in suffering of
business operations heavily (Smither, Houston, McIntire, 2016).
Matching up with competition
Another challenge that come in front of Sainsbury management and leadership where its
operations are subject to dynamic nature is matching up with competition and compiling with
same to get to know what its competitors are doing to attract target audience and to know where
company stand against its competition to ensure that what are areas in which company is lacking
which will help leaders and managers with searching for those alternatives and opportunities and
taking full utilisation of the same (Prosperi,2019). It also helps managers with knowing the key
strengths of Sainsbury which if utilised in proper manner will help the company to get an edge
over its competition and will lead to situation where company can defeat its competitors more
easily and can build positive brand image in minds of its customers only if its leaders now how
to convert challenge of matching and beating its competitors into an opportunity of surviving and
winning in marketplace and capture huge customer base (Grecucci, 2020).
Leaders and managers should be proficient and efficient with their concept of market
research where they need to critically evaluate each and every thing and take into consideration
with the same and be the first to take advantage of the same in order to come up with new things
that its competitors fails to provide and which leads to Sainsbury’s to build it goodwill and
acquire huge market share than any other retailer in UK.
But if managers and leaders who are on the front foot of company fails to accomplish with
challenges of meeting with competitors, will result in company to face heavy loss in term of loss
of sales and resulting in increased loyalty of target audience towards competitors’ products
where it will be very hard for company to regain its position in highly competitive market.

From the above report it is being understood that there are various challenges in dynamic and
changing business environment which needs to be closely monitored and faced by management
and leader in order to ensure smooth functioning of business operation and making
organisational structure flexible to sustain and take up every challenging situation in positive and
favourable manner.
