In the fifth week of the semester, we were presented with the topic of transformational
leadership and for our better understanding we were provided with the article “Transformational
leadership and project success: The mediating role of team-building” that has exemplified the
mentioned topic. In order to learn more about the topic transformational leadership, I have
conducted further research in the topic transformational leadership in order to identify as well as
analyse how can the mentioned leadership style fits into my own leadership plan.
From the mentioned article the author has focused on the fact that although
transformational leadership has the potential to ensure the success of an organization, several
factors are responsible for the success (Aga, Noorderhaven and Vallejo 2016). The article clearly
depicted that the success of transformational leadership is completely based in the project
leadership, project success as well as team building practices. The term transformational
leadership refers to a leadership style where employees are encouraged, inspired as well as
motivated by the leaders for innovating as well as creating changes that in turn will help growing
as well as shaping the future success of the organization.
The most important aspects of transformational leadership that grabbed by attention
includes the relationship of transformational leadership with team building. According to the
author, transformational leaders incorporate the goal setting approach. This approach includes
explaining the team members the goals as well as specific objectives of the project, sometimes
by defining subtasks along with establishing timetables. After going through the article, it was
clearly evident to me that team building is highly essential to be an effective leader. Leaders
needs to involve in designing effective communication mechanisms for sharing information
about that focus of the project, changes and development along with the responsibilities of the
individual member. As a student who aspires to become a leader in near future, I believe that it is

highly crucial to develop effective skills in communication. Effective communication skills will
help me to understand the perspective of my subordinate and provide assistance or support to
them on the basis of the same. As a leader, I believe that lack of communication skill is one of
my major weaknesses. In order to develop the same, I will definitely undergo training sessions.
When it comes to one of my strengths, decision making capabilities can be considered. While
making crucial decision, I always try to think rationally. After going through the article I
understood that it is highly crucial for a transformational leader to possess effective values. As a
leader, my core values will include humanity, wisdom,, integrity and courage.
I believe that, I possess the potential to become an effective transformational leader in
future. I plan to come up with a framework for helping me to practice the concept of team
building as a transformational leader.
