Abstract
The paper is aimed at understanding the concept of Transformative Service
Research (TSR) and the effect it has on the business models of sharing economy.
The first part of the paper focuses on the concept of TSR and sharing economy.
The other part of the paper explains the impact that TSR has on sharing economy
and how it uplifts the wellbeing on sharing economy.

1. Introduction
As consumers, people are surrounded by a plethora of services such as educational,
financial, transportation, communication, health care and government services. These
services have a huge impact on the lives of people and comprises of 70% of the economy of
the world (Blocker and Barrios 2015). Transformative Service Research (TSR) is the
integration of service research and consumer, focused on uplifting, improvements and
development of well-being of consumers like individuals, families, employees, and
communities (Anderson and Ostrom 2015). Sharing economy is a concept of social or
economic system where the physical and human resources are shared between the
organizations and industries of a nation (Belk 2014). The collaborative economy sets up a
platform where consumers who require a product or service are linked to the providers of
those goods or services. It comprises the activities like production, distribution, creation and
consumption of commodities by various individuals and organizations. The business model
of sharing economy include access based business model, marketplace business model and
on demand service provider business model (Kosintceva 2016). This paper aims to evaluate
the impact that TSR has on sharing economy and how it increases the wellbeing on sharing
economy business model.
2. Impact of TSR on sharing economy business models
In the modern era of digitalization, consumers avail most of the services though online
platform. By enhancing the quality of various services of the service sector, Transformative
Service Research can transform the economy of a nation into a better one (Kuppelwieser and
Finsterwalder 2016). The service sector of a nation constitutes more than half of the sharing
economy. The technological, political, transportation and health care transformation in the

decades since the average contribution of services to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has
increased. In 2017, services has contributed more than 60% of the total value added in major
economies (Salazar-Xirinachs, Nübler, and Kozul-Wright 2014). The growth in the service
sector has led to increased employement, which ultimately benefits the business models of
shared economy. The business structure of the world has also faced a drastic positive change
because of rise in economies of service sector. At present, services comprise of growing
trade of a nation and varying effect on the balance of current account. The business models
of sharing economy is largely benefited by Transformative Service Research.
The service sector has undergone a vast digital transformation over the last 10 years in every
corner of the world including the developed, developing and underdeveloped countries
(Hanna 2016). The digital revolution is responsible for the growth, development and
potentiality of students, employees and entrepreneurs since it has uplifted the technical and
analytical knowledge within them which has increased the capability of people to interpret
data, connect with people and carry out trade digitally thus increasing the efficiency of each
business model of sharing economy (Piccinini et al. 2015). Thus, the transformation in
education system has a direct positive impact on the global economy since effective
globalization is a long run result of invaluable education system.
There are certain services that are designed to enhance the wellbeing of consumers like
programs of employee wellness, services related to disaster relief, social and health care
services. These are a cause of uplifted sharing economy business model since these
programs directly effects the service experience of both service provider as well as the
service receiver (Herrendorf, Rogerson, and Valentinyi 2014). The financial service sector
has a huge contribution towards the global GDP and increases the employement opportunity
and investment inducements putting a great impact on the three business models of sharing
economy (Petri and Plummer 2016). The transformation in other service sectors such as
political, transportation and health care also effects the betterment of the society as a whole
by providing more improved service quality, which ultimately influences the sharing
economy of the world.
3. Conclusion
Therefore, it can be summed up from the discussion of the paper that TSR has a great impact
on the business models of sharing economy. Transformation of the service sector, which is a
major contributor to the global GDP, creates a scope of employement among people of
various nations which come together to share the economy in their trade by exploiting the
available resources. Thus, TSR develops and uplifts the society by increasing the productivity
of the business models.
