1ABSTRACT AND ESSAY PLAN
How trans-media storytelling has impacted on the fan culture and how it has created more
content creation for users on different platforms?
Abstract
The following paper aims to provide a critical evaluation of the concept of the transmedia
storytelling and its role in the creation of more content for the users on various platforms.
Transmedia is a revolutionary outcome of the advanced technology in the media sector. It refers
to the narrative which extends beyond different forms of media. The transmedia storytelling has
become one of the major digital technology trends these days, which is being adopted to put
across a single story, idea or experience to the readers or audiences via multiple different
platforms and formats (McErlean 2018). This idea of involving various platforms to present a
single narrative to the audience has led to the creation of different forms of media and objects,
which is beneficial for creating an in-depth image of the narrative in the mind of the audiences.
In today’s world, the transmedia storytelling is highly prevalent in the literature and
entertainment industry. For example, the movies produced by Disney use multiple platforms to
reach out to the target audience, such as, books, merchandized products, games, music, and short
videos for the social media, which help the audiences not only to have a better perception of the
content and feel interested but also connect with those through personal experience (Ryan 2017).
Hence, when the audiences watch the Harry Potter films and read the books, they feel more
strongly connected and they can also share their feedbacks in the social media platforms such as
YouTube. However, along with the benefits, the transmedia storytelling also has some
disadvantages. This paper provides an in-depth discussion and assessment of the impact of
transmedia storytelling on the content creation for the users and its advantages and
disadvantages.
