Introduction
The transportation sector is highly vague and increasing at a rapid pace in both developing and
developed countries. The rise of the transportation sector has caused problems for the
environment. To control this proper asset management needs to be used so that the environment,
as well as the public, is not harmed. Agencies that are involved in this sector are to be focusing
on how much assets they are producing and whether these assets can be managed efficiently.
Various authors have discussed many strategies and issues that occur because of the
transportation sector. This study will focus on the author's articles and the analysis of these
articles.

Volker, L., van der Lei, T. and van den Boomen, M., 2012, June. Continued Learning in Asset
Management for the Dutch Transport Network. In CESUN 2012: 3rd International Engineering
Systems Symposium, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands, 18-20 June 2012.
This article discusses how the methods used in asset management can help in improving the
transport network of Germany. The method that is used is the maturity model helps in
developing the performance of asset management. As government organisations are planning
new ways in road construction there have been problems for the contacts as they need to find
new ways to implement these policies. It can be also seen in the article that mentions how asset
management should be done for a longer period of time. The problem that is associated with this
article that it only took local data and analysed only that, more data from other levels should
have been taken to show the asset management should be used in the transport sector. Instead of
only taking definitions from the 2011 period, instead, if data was collected form this year it
would have been more helpful in comparing how the asset management was done in the different
years. Another aspect which should have been covered in the article is that the process of asset
management was only discussed and not shown how companies can implement it. But in all the
article did show how the organisation creates stakeholders so that they could take part in the
critical decision-making process for the assets managed in the transport sector.

Gunarathna, P. and Hassan, R., 2016. Sustainability assessment tool for road transport asset
management practice. Road & Transport Research: A Journal of Australian and New Zealand
Research and Practice, 25(4), p.15.
This article discusses how the organisations that belong in the road transportation industry have a
hard time managing their work using limited resources. The issues that are faced by companies
in this sector include both internal as well as external factors. Also, they need to focus on how to
manage the issues that are occurring in the environment due to asset management in
transportation. The road asset management sustainability assessment tool is used to solve the
problem that is occurring in the industry. Though there are many ways that this problem can be
solved this article only focuses on one of them. The other factor that can be included in this is

how companies can compare the sustainability goals of other agencies that are working in this
sector. The road asset management sustainability assessment tool helps in various levels of asset
management process which in return creates a more stable and sustainable environment for the
road and transport agencies. The objective of this paper was to help companies in the
transportation sector so that they can achieve the asset management process efficiently. The asset
management would help these companies to manage all of their assets in a proper way.

Petchrompo, S., 2018. A review of asset management literature on multi-asset
systems. Reliability Engineering & System Safety.
This article discusses how asset management is used for entities in the transportation sector. It
mentions two factors which are fleet assets and portfolio assets. The fleet assets compromise of
homogeneous assets and portfolio assets consist of heterogeneous assets. The combination of
these two systems in called a multi-unit system. In each of this multi-unit system, there are
various authors which discuss how these methods are used. The fleet management which is used
shows only hypothetical factors to use asset management. But in the real world, there are other
factors that are involved in the fleet management which are safety and performance of the assets
which need to be managed. Also, the assets used in the article are taken on a hypothetical basis
also; instead the study should have taken assets from an organisation then applied the methods.
The article does discuss the interlinking of data in technologies used while computing. The
article could have shown how these technologies are implemented and used for asset
management in the transportation sector. By doing this the article would show how the
technology can reduce the expenses of the companies that are in this transportation sector. The
decision or outcomes that were shown are mainly made by the author of the article instead of
doing this proper research should have been presented in whom the stakeholder's decisions are
mentioned. Also, the way in which stakeholder’s decision affect the asset management process
because the author’s decision will be only based on the limited data that is researched by them
and not by other factors as well.

Huang, F., Zhou, D., Wang, Q. and Hang, Y., 2019. Decomposition and attribution analysis of
the transport sector’s carbon dioxide intensity change in China. Transportation Research Part A:
Policy and Practice, 119, pp.343-358.
This article discusses how is proper asset management is not done in the transport sector then the
level of carbon dioxide can increase drastically. It shows how in China there are four vital factors
that make the carbon dioxide rise in the atmosphere. It can be seen that fixed assets of
transportation have become the main factor that affects this issue. There are more and more
investments that are being used in the fixed assets than usual which is used to make
transportation vehicles. Hence it causes carbon dioxide to rise. The problem that is associated
with this article is that it only focuses on one country while there are other countries that are also
facing the same problem. Data could have been collected from such countries and a comparison
could have been made that would describe why there is the more carbon dioxide present in one
country than the other. Also, what could have been compared is the asset management system in
both of the countries and see which one is better and why is that one better. In all the article did
discuss how the asset management in China could have a negative effect on the atmosphere and
the public. Also, transportation would have to be controlled by making fewer investments in the
assets involved.
