Executive Summary
This article provides a review of a case scenario related to transport
logistics. It highlights the processes involved in the shipping and
the various documentations needed to be produced for hassle free
shipment of medical diagnostics equipments from a manufacturing
plant in Singapore to a hospital in Dubai. It also provides
recommendations on what needs to be done in case of wrong
delivery of consignment.

Introduction
 Transport logistics is an integral part of the business environment (Lee
and Meng 2014).
 Freight forwarder is an organisation or an individual who organizes
shipments to get commodities from manufacturer to the ultimate
customers, markets or final destination
 This article highlights the procedures to transport medical devices from
Singapore to Dubai, UAE (Hospitals) via Ocean freight
 It also provides info on procedures for replacement in case of wrong
delivery

Processes involved in Shipping

Export Haulage: It is process of transferring commodities from Shipper’s location
to the forwarder’s warehouse (Hossain 2017)
Export Customs Clearance: It is the process of registering commodities leaving
the country by the concerned authorities in the country of origin
Origin Handling: It involves the process of unloading of shipment at the port,
staging, counting, inspecting and giving the shipper the receiving confirmation
Ocean Freight: The Shipping line performs this process with Freight forwarder
undergoing a carriage contract
Import Customs Clearance: Concerned authorities do the clearance check of the
imported commodities that moves into the country
Destination Handling: It consists of various processes starting from unloading of
the consignment in the destination port, transferring it to warehouse and
inspecting it for further processes
Import Haulage: This process involves transporting of commodities from the
import warehouse to the ultimate customers

Documents associated with Shipping process
1. Commercial Invoice: It is the invoice given by the seller containing products
price and details
2. Booking Confirmation: It is the document given by the freight forwarder listing
the details of the booking except the cost of transportation
3. Forwarder’s Cargo Receipt (FCR): It is the document given by the freight
forwarder which is given to the shipper when the product is received for shipping
4. Forwarder Invoice: It is the document given by the freight forwarder which
contains information on the costs related to transportation, billing addresses,
unique booking address and terms and conditions
5. House Bill of Lading: It is given by freight forwarders for the purpose of proof
of contract, receipt of goods shipped and document of title (Lamont-Black 2019)
6. Telex Release: original house bill of lading given to freight forwarder by the
supplier
7. Master Bill of Lading: It is the document given to the freight forwarder by the
shipping line when the consignment is loaded on the ship (Debattista 2017)
8. Sea Waybill: It is a document of carrier's receipt of the goods and carriage’s
contract.
9. Insurance Certificate: Insurance should be done in order to avoid big
repercussions when the shipment is damaged

Conclusion
This study concludes that there are various stages in shipping
process viz. Export Haulage, Import Haulage, Export Customs
Clearance, Import Customs Clearance, Destination Handling, Ocean
freight and , Origin handling. It helped us to understand the role of
Freight Forwarder in Transport Logistics and the various costs and
documents associated with the shipping process.
