Introduction
Considering the report, it has been aimed at preparing a report for implementing a
business idea to resolve the issues associated with the poor management of innovation at
Nationwide Transport Services located in Australia. The company has been one of the major
trucking companies in Australia that has managed to deliver proper transportation and
trucking services for catering the needs of people and managing stocks and supply chains
properly as well. The members are shipped all across the different branches in Australia,
United States of America along with Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, etc. to expand its business
operations and processes, furthermore generate higher revenue and aiming to achieve
competitive advantage in business too (Nationwidetransportservices.com.au, 2019). The
vehicles’ transportation has not only created convenience for the clients, but also has helped
in delivering door to door services considering the fact that there is no need to wait and the
carrier shall pick up and drop off at the concerned location without any need to wait at the
terminal or station hub. The assignment is focused on the identification of issue associated
with the higher cost of fuel and increased cost incurred while managing the business
operations to promote innovation through the implementation of technologies. The level of
pollution has increased with the trucking and transportation services and there is need to
manage sustainable practices for reducing the harmful environment impact as well as make
the community a better and healthy place for people to live in (Burns & Dewhurst, 2016).
The report will examine the new business revolving around the use of Global
positioning system or GPS integrated with new technologies such as ELDs for monitoring the
location of vehicles and manage greater communication among the business and its clients
with the maintenance of a secured web based platform. This has been aimed at reducing the
lack of communication problems hindering production, poor security and higher labour costs

too. The business idea also prioritises on evolvement through generation of new business idea
where the self-driving vehicles are to be used for reducing environmental impact and control
increased fuel cost and consumption too.
Problem and need analysis
From the analysis of issues, it is understood that the business category where
innovation is lacking has been the utilisation of GPS fleet tracking system, telematics,
platooning technology and ELDs. Due to this, there has been poor communication, lack of
ability to monitor the location of vehicles and the labour costs are higher along with the
cost of fuel has increased, which further lead to increased expenditures for the management
of business operations and processes. The use of vehicles that were unauthorised further
contributed to lack of security and caused issues hindering the level of safety during
transportation as well (Mollick, 2013). The analysis of needs shows that the business idea
prioritises on the use of GPS technology and ELDs integrated with platooning
technology to resolve these issues. To reduce the fuel consumption and manage reduced
costs of fuel, the business idea also focuses on the management of self-driving cars required
to decrease the issues associated with the rising cost of fuel and at the same time, focus on
creating a healthy and safe environment by reducing pollution level too.
The clients expect good quality services related to trucking and transportation
activities for delivering things from one place to another in bulk at reasonable prices and so
the business needs to make sure to properly take care of the needs and requirements. It is also
important to manage sustainable practices for the purpose of creating lesser pollution and
keep the environment safe and healthy, furthermore allow the customers to gain positive
mind sets about the company, thus leading to better sales through influence of consumer
buying behaviours too (Cumming & Li 2013).

Based on the risk assessment and analysis of risks, it could be found that the poor
communication and ability to track vehicles’ location, higher cost of fuel and expenses
incurred while managing the business operations are the major issues faced by Nationwide
Transport services. The problems are caused due to the lack of implementation of new
technologies and being unable to manage sustainable practices, which has resulted in
degrading the business performance as well as resulted in lack of production and high
expenses too (Manigart & Sapienza, 2017). The other issues were caused due to the use of
vehicles that were unauthorised and this caused security and safety issues as well, which
could not only lead to lesser sales revenue, but also would affect the business performance by
decreasing the working capital along with lack of ability to meet the clients’ requirements and
needs effectively. This should be one of the major causes of dissatisfaction among the clients
and the profit level might decline as well.
These emerging needs and requirements arise with the environment constantly
changing and with the increase in cost of fuel and expenses for the business processes. The
issues are needed to be mitigated for ensuring higher level of customer satisfaction and also
to ensure that the sustainable business practices are managed for consistence business
performance to meet the clients’ needs at present and in the future as well for Nationwide
Transport Services in Australia (Schaper, 2016).
Consumer analysis
Based on the different needs of services provided by the company, the customers are
interested to pay a minimum of $100000 according to the quality of services, but it is
important to know that the costs might differ with the varied range of services offered by the
organisation. With the implementation of new technologies such as the GPS fleet tracking

communications technology with telecommunications systems and information technology
systems, which should lead to better storage, accessibility and retrieval of information about
the trucks that would be sent for delivering things from one place to another with ease and
efficiency. It would be much easier to track the location of the trucks and check whether the
truck would be able to reach the concerned destination within time or not (Gedajlovic et al.,
2013).
The Global Positioning system or GPS technology could enable implementation of
telematics system, which should allow the transportation vehicles to be fitted with electronic
GSM and SPS system for tracking the location and ensure greater communication process to
deal with the clients through secured web based platform. The trucks would not reach wrong
locations because with the use of GPS system integration, the concerned location would be
targeted and this should allow for reaching the location on time, furthermore ensure timely
delivery of goods and higher level of customer satisfaction too. With the use of these newer
technologies, Nationwide Transport Services could keep track of the speed, location, status of
vehicle and also the movement, which is essential for the development of an auto generated
report defining the vehicle status and providing the manager of fleet about necessary
information associated with the starting time of vehicle like, exact location, time of delivery
and shutting down as well (Brodie et al., 2013). The information about the location and real
attributes of the vehicles and fleet services would be identified with ease, thus should create
more opportunities for managing better communication and deal with the issues related to
labour costs conveniently. The GPS fleet tracking system should prevent reaching wrong
location and this would result in reduced fuel consumption and labour costs. The self-driving
vehicles should improve higher level of security of vehicles, enable proper authorisation and
also focus on reducing negative environmental impact by keeping the environment fresh and
healthy with lesser carbon emissions. These approaches and implementation of newer

there might be various issues like the increased expenditures needed to integrate new
technologies to the business processes and also the poor capability of the organisation to
forecast the rate of return on investments for the shareholders or investors of the organisation
(Hackbarth & Madlener, 2013). For the creation of a positive brand image and strengthen the
customer base, Nationwide Transport Services mist interact with the clients consistently with
the use of emails and select the right carriers prior to the offering of contract. With the
formation of good relationships with the suppliers and negotiators, it would also be easy for
the business to get good quality supplies and resources, furthermore reduce the operational
costs and costs needed to manage transportation of goods and services. Not only the GPS and
platooning technology are considered as useful, but also the introduction of new self-driving
cars could act as a great innovation by the business to cope up with the increased cost of fuel
and ensure that the extra income generated could be used for other purposes like for the
purpose of conducting research and development (Foxall, 2014). The existing products and
services would also be provided at a much lesser cost, without compromising on the quality,

The formation of a team associated with the management of sustainability has helped
in dealing with critical issues that are related to the freight distribution and supply chain
management problems too. The transportation of freights is driven by market conditions and
on the basis of commercial activities and thus the organisational leaders and manager must
integrate the organisational policies and principles with the transportation laws, rules and
regulations to ensure that the logistics services efficiency improve. This would also allow for
increasing the accessibility to new transport facilities and equipment according to the
demands in the market with ease and effectiveness. (Chick & Handfield, 2014). The
marketing environment, globalisation impact and life cycle of products and services affect the
contemporary supply chai management, because of which, it is important for the supply chain
workers to possess good amounts of skills, knowledge and expertise for the specialisation of
market segments globally and at the same time promote expansion of business in not only
Australia but also in other parts of the world too (Töytäri & Rajala, 2015).
The application developers have installed ELDs in the trucks for improving the fleet
management along with extensive features added such as the electronic handbook and
compliance reporting solution through compliance with the ELD mandate. This has enabled
tracking the vehicle location and driver activities through online (Schneider, Spieth & Clauss,
