This essay addresses the concepts of transportation supply and demand. It defines transportation supply as encompassing various travel modes and infrastructure, including capacity (both static and dynamic) and services. Demand is defined as the number of people needing transport within a given time and space. The essay then explores the long-term environmental impacts of the transportation industry, highlighting issues such as energy consumption, air and noise pollution, land use, congestion, and ecosystem degradation. The negative environmental consequences are emphasized as significant short-term and long-term effects.

Question 1
Transport supply is considered as various modes of travelling and infrastructure available
in the transportation industry. The infrastructure is the place available to keep the modes of
transport and services are the type of drivers available and the time taken. Capacity is divided
into two dynamic and static capacity. A well establish supply of capacity and service for
transportation helps the industry to offer better service to the customers thus helping the industry
to grow. On the other hand, demand is the number of people desiring good transport and per unit
time and space. The more the number of people desiring transport the better will be for the
industry. More demand will help the industry to grow in a better way (Azevedo & Leshno,
2016).
Question 2
Transportation industry has a long-term effect on the environment of a place because of
various reasons. It is also a main source of air pollution in the economy due to huge amount of
fuel emission. By minimizing the distance between places, the transportation sector has lead to a
degradation of the environment. The first type of environmental damage caused by transportation
is huge energy consumption. The increasing amount of energy consumption by the transportation
industry has lead to a reduction in many non-renewable energy resources. Other environmental
damage caused by transportation is air pollution, noise pollution, land consumption, congestion
on road and degradation of the ecosystem. Thus, transportation industry exerts negative impact
on the environment in short as well as in long run (Vigar, 2013).
