RESEARCH PROPOSAL
Introduction
Tourism industry is the fastest growing sector which contributes well in the economic
development of nation (Collins-Kreiner and et.al, 2017). It is very important for the hospitality
and travel industry to take care of safety and security aspect. They have to provide secured travel
facilities to the visitors so that they can become positive and give optimistic reviews to others as
well. Present study will discuss the impact of safety and security in tourism and hotel business.
Background of the study
Security and safety is the first priority of individuals. Before planning to go to any
location, visitors look at the political condition, transportation facilities and security aspect of a
particular place. If they find destination insecure, then they change their mind. Tourism and
hospitality industries are considered to be fragile sectors because political instability impacts on
firms operating in these to a high extent. Tourists feel relaxed and comfortable to go to such
destination where political parties are stable (Omeje, 2017). Unstable political conditions
increase security risk as well as terrorist activities in the nation. This is the major factor that
influences growth of tourism and hospitality business. There are many places in the United
Kingdom which are under developed and where crime rate is very high. This is the reason that
fewer visitors take interest to go to such places. Recently, government has taken good initiatives
in order to minimise the security and safety issues from nation. They have made strict laws and
effective visa policies. By this way, no unknown person who do not have valid passport and visa
can enter into the country. Furthermore, transportation safety has been improved that encourages
people to go to the places and enjoy beauty of these destinations (Chisholm, 2014).
These laws and regulations provide freedom from danger and individuals can get a safe
environment. Due to improper transportation facilities, many road accidents occur in cities.
Safety measures help tourism and hotel industries in eliminating these risks and increasing
interest of people to come to the place. If the destination is safe and secured, then families,
students and other international visitors plan to come to these places (Mimar, 2016). They spend
a huge amount which helps in increasing their revenues and support in the economic growth of
nation to a high extent. London is the most popular destination from tourist’s point of view.
Number of visitors are increasing day by day. Authorities of the destination always try to

develop infrastructure and transportation facilities in the location so that travellers would not
face any issue. There are adequate complain offices where individuals can raise their issues.
Whenever individuals come to London then concerned department cross checks their visa,
passport and other documents of the person carefully (How Safety and Security influence the
decision of tourists to visit another destination, 2013). This is the reason that crime rate in
London is very low and it is a safe destination from the tourist’s point of view. Many people
come to this place across the world and contribute well in enhancing profitability of hospitality
and tourism industry.

The present research topic is very interesting thus, scholar has chosen this topic for
investigation. Furthermore, there are huge data available on the security and safety issues in
these sectors which affect overall business of hospitality and tourism business. By this way it
would be easy for the scholar to carry out the research on this topic.
CONCLUSION
From the above study, it can be concluded that there is a huge impact of safety and
security on the minds of consumers. In order to make the people positive towards destination, it
is essential that government pays attention on security measures. This can help in attracting more
people towards the destination and raising profitability of tourism business in country.
