Increase Frequency of Holidays
Over the passage of time it has been seen that there has been an increase in the frequency of
holidays that has helped the travel and tourism sector to flourish at a greater rate. In the current
scenario, it has been found that the travel and tourism sector has helped in bringing economic
stability in different countries along with several other developments such as extended railway
lines, cruise, affordable flight fares, etc. which attracts more tourist to visit different places of
attraction across the globe1. Due to the rise in the frequency of holidays, the number of tour
operators in both national and international scale has raised and the government of different
countries also supports those companies as they are bringing foreign currency, as a result they
can raise the value of their local currency in the international market.

increasing science 1980. Different factors such as increase the frequency of holydays, reduction
of travel cost etc. In financial year 2015, more than 36 million people visited United Kingdom
from abroad2. Apart from that, it has been identified that 38% of total mainly visited UK for the

Travel is a major concern of the travelers, as they prefer to travel in comfort along with cheap
bookings. In this era of digital communication, it has been found useful for the travelers to pre-
book their seats as per their mode of transport along with other amenities. A large number of
travel companies has also been established in these many years, which has helped the tourist to
travel across different place and reach their destination across the globe3. On the other hand, it
has been found that the growth in the travel and tourism industry has also raised the competition

Greater Flexibility
Travel and tourism is seem to be spreading at a good rate that has brought plenty opportunities to
different countries in order to attract numerous visitors across the globe to visit their country and
enjoy the rich culture and heritage or the different buildings and monuments that has been built
in these recent years. In order to manage numerous visitors both the government as well as the
travel and tourism companies must ensure a flexible working system that will help in meeting the
needs of the tourist as well as attracting the tourist to visit again4. Certain factors such as online
ticket booking, proper accommodation and food plays a crucial role for the tourism companies to
ensure their customers comfort. For that reason, tourist from other European countries also
visited London and other places of UK due to high flexibility. In financial year 2015, London has
18.6 million visits. The number of visits increased in the other places of UK also for flexible
tourism opportunities 5. A graphical representation is depicted below to better understand the

The government of different countries has also issued certain measures that are strictly followed
by both the local inhabitants as well as the visitors, which helps to conserve the rich heritage of
certain places, also cleanliness and proper behavioral approach has also been made. Again,
certain prohibited places have been ensured to be not visited by any visitor under any
circumstances6. The tour operators are needed to be skilled and must have great communication
skills that will help in developing better relation with the visitors as well as know their likes and
dislikes. Moreover, different tourist have different taste as per which they chose their travel
location, which is also needed to be consider by the travel and tourism companies that will also
build a good reputation and goodwill in the market.
Technological Development
In this modern era technology plays a key role in meeting with the demands of the tourist visiting
different places across the globe. In the growing sector of travel and tourism, technological
development acts as a catalyst and boosts the growth of the industry. It has been found that the
use of internet and other electronic devices such as Global Positioning System (GPS), Wi-Fi,
online booking system, etc. have made it easier for the tourist to gather the necessary information
they require to select their destination7. Technological development has helped opportunities to
the travel and tourism companies to reach their clients across the world and attract them with
various budgetary offers. After 2002, the technology also improved than previous years and in
present days communication also improved. For that reason the above statistics mainly indicates
the massive growth of visitors after financial year 2002.
Technological development has also helped in the field of promotion, which has helped in
attracting a large number of visitors across different parts of the world. Tourist reviews has also
been playing an important role, which are shared on different sites in the internet8. Also, different
navigation applications has helped the travelers to acquire an idea of the distance to be travelled
along with the estimated time required for travelling with different modes of transport.

Transport Development
As discussed earlier in this study, travel plays the core role in the growth and development of the
tourism industry. Over the past few it can be found that government of different countries has
undergone different upgradation program for the improvisation of their transport facility. At
times, it can be seen that places with rich heritage and culture that attracts lots of people due to
inappropriate transport facilities could not serve as a proper tourist destination9. Considering
such cases, the government of different countries has started renovation of different transport
facilities as well as introduced different new modes of transport for meeting the demands of the
tourist from foreign as well as local places. Building new railway tracks, building underground
metro station, ensuring sufficient number of tourist bus, extending their runway and airport to
connect with other countries, etc. have helped in the growth and development of travel and
tourism industry across the globe. The development of transport also increased the number of
domestic visits.
Most of the tourist prefer to travel in comfort unless any crisis falls upon them, which is also an
important factor to be considered by the tourism companies, which provides various packages to
their clients who are willing to travel at different places or at a particular destination. It has been
observed that since the growth of the travel and tourism sector, there has been a pressure upon
the transportation facilities, as a result there at times are delays and cancellation of the vehicles10.
Though, the travel agencies tries to fulfill their customer demands by providing them appropriate
vehicles to travel that will also fit their budget.
