Introduction
As the travel and tourism, the industry grows at the rapid stage. With the development and
growth in this industry, it is important to protect the tourist and visitors in this sector. The
Whitbread that is famous for the multinational hotels, coffee shops and restaurants. This project
provides an opportunity to explore the tourism industry. In this context, it consists the legal and
regulatory framework in the tourism industry by discussing the several laws related to the
carriage of the passengers within the legal framework of this industry. Further, it consists the
impacts of the principles of health, safety and security related legislation in the travel and
tourism sector. Furthermore, this assignment analyses the equality legislation to eliminate the
differences that inculcate in the tourism industry. For the protection of the customers, the concept
of the contract legislation is discussed. Moreover, in this assignment ethical dilemmas are
analysing that is face under the travel and tourism industry. To ensure the responsibility of the
corporate towards the tourism industry the corporate social responsibility is analysed.

regulatory framework
governs the legislation and
its enforcement. There are
several factors that assist
the legislation that includes
hospitality, the behavior of
the consumers and
standards related to the
quality and quantity of the
product (Cao, 2015).
In England, the law is
based on the three
principles in the process of
law making. Among the
law sources, the Parliament
is on the uppermost. Apart
from the Parliament, the
English legal system has

that are Common Law.

travel and tourism industry, Further, this report analyses the Equality Act, 2010 so as provide
protection and equality among the employees at the occupational place.
Introduction
The travel and tourism industry is responsible to take of the tourist and visitors so as to ensure
that their journey remains safe. It is important to ensure the safety and security against the unfair
practices of the tour operators and travel companies.
2.1 Evaluate the impacts of the principles of health, safety and security legislation on the
travel and tourism sector.
The main responsibility of the travel and tour industry is to provide protection to the passengers
and ensure that they conveniently travel at any place. Apart from this, the health and safety
provisions are applicable on the companies that it is the responsibility of the companies to ensure
the security and safety of the employees at the occupational place against the hazardous and
dangerous activity. In this context, the management of the Whitbread needs to secure the health
by providing them with safety. The impacts of the legislation in the travel and tourism industry
are mentioned below:
 Data Protection- At any sphere of business it is important to protect the personal and
confidential data of the customers or the employees. Management must ensure the safety
and security of the data of the travellers or visitors that are provided by them (Cornock,
2018). The Data Protection Act, 2018 is responsible to ensure the information security so
that the deal should be fair and transparent.
 Occupiers Liability Act, 1984- This act provides safety to the owners of the property
against the trespassers who enter in the property of others without their permissions.
 The Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974- This act is responsible to ensure that the
employees remain safe and secure against the hazardous activity (Hunt, 2018). In this

context, it is important to provide adequate training to the employees and the staff of the
companies to handle dangerous equipment and provide then relevant and accurate
instructions against the dangerous activities and equipment handling.
 The duty of Care- Every individual is responsible towards the obligations of the society
and its wellbeing. It is the duty and responsibility of the management to ensure that the
responsibilities of the management towards the society should be fulfilled in good faith
and if any loss or damage caused to the society due to the act of the management than the
management is responsible to provides adequate compensation (Blanco, 2018).

With the expansion and growth in the industry of travel and tourism, the term equality is become
essential to eliminate the discrimination practices.
In this context, the Whitbread abide by the Equality Act, 2010. In regards to this act, the main
aim of this act to ensure the equality among the employees against the unfair practices and
treatment at the occupational place (Vila, et. al., 2015). This act provides protection to the
disabled persons against the unfair treatment at occupational place, education institutions, clubs,
workplace etc.
 Employment Act 2002- In the context of this act, it ensures the safety and security of the
employees. Apart from this, it is important that the employees work in the friendly
environment of working so that the employees are easily adjusting in the new working
environment. It consists the provisions related to the paternity, maternity leaves and other
miscellaneous provisions.
 Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978- This act protecting the employee's
rights at the workplace that arise in term of their employment.
 The Sex Discrimination Act, 1975- This act eliminates the discrimination activities on
the basis of the sex. It is the right of each and every individual to treat equally without
judging them on the basis of their sex and have equal rights to access the opportunities.
 Race Relations Act, 1976- This act provides protection against the illegal and unfair
treatment on the basis of the individual’s nationality, ethnic, colour and race at the
workplace (Cantle, 2018). The main aim of this act is to ensure the employee's safety
towards the discriminated activities that are prevailing among in the business
environment.
The impacts of the above-discussed legislation and regulations are mentioned below:
Health and Safety regulations- The Health and Safety regulations are regulated under the
Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 so as to ensure that the individuals remain protected against
the unfair practices and treatment with the employees at the place of occupation (Holt and Allen,
2015). This act ensures that each and every workplace has the proper working facilities that

includes working environment, toilet facilities and assemble training schedules to educate the
employees while handling the dangerous and hazardous equipment.
Legislation of Equality and Diversity- The main objective of the equality legislation is to
provide equal treatment to the employees at the place of occupation and treat each and every
individual equally by removing the barriers that differentiate the individuals with each other.
Conclusion
With the discussions above, it is concluded that to achieve long-term growth and development it
is important for any type of industry to maintain the satisfaction level of the employees and treat
them fairly and equally. For any industry like in Whitbread, it is important to abide by the
abovementioned regulations to achieve the long-term success of the company.
