INTRODUCTION
Tourism industry refers to set of sectors that provides products and services to make the
travelling a better experience for customers and the places of leisure business interests. This
report will highlight the key milestones in the development of Travel and Tourism industry. The
report will also include the different elements of Travel and Tourism industry and their
interrelation with the tourist experience.

P1 Key milestones in Travel and Tourism industry
The following are the key milestones in Travel and Tourism industry-
Development of Tourism act 1969- This act was initiated for the growth of tourism
sector in UK and the establishment of British Tourist Authority and the Tourist Boards for
England, Scotland and Wales. This act led to the development of Tourism sector in Great Britain
and all over England.
Package Holidays 1949- It was the most important product of Travel and Tourism
industry known as package holidays. Package holidays are the one that includes transport and

food facilities in one package. This concept was introduced in 1949 by Vladmir Raitz where he
took 32 passengers to Corsica after charging them £32.50 that included accommodation in tents,
transfers and return flight. This has led the popularity of package holidays later in 1970s when
people were more interested in tourism activities and travelling and also the removal of currency
restrictions that allowed the tourist to spend more money.
Destination Development 1966- Destinations have been developed since 1966 through
promotion and popularity. As years before various current popular destinations were not known
or weren't visited, but they have become more popular in the recent few years leading to the
strong boost for the Tourism sector industry (Nunkoo, 2015.). Destination development have
shaped the Tourism sector industry by initiating huge amount of profits due to the rising interest
of people in certain destinations and the rise in the awarenesses by the tourists regarding various
destinations.
Technological development 1990- The development of technology and the internet in
the tourism sector has led to the booming of tourism industry. The use of internet has made the
tourism industry more popular across the world. The people have started using the online
booking services of various tourism packages and flights as well as railways, that have enhanced
the wider reach and popularity of tourism sector business and its services. Also, the other

technology like call centres that have helped the tourism industries to address the complaints and
queries for its customers and establish better relationships with them.
Transport Development- Transport development in Tourism industry is constantly
changing and opting better and better facilities to be safer, faster, comfortable and affordable by
the customers (Benur and Bramwell, 2015). The development of Air Travel is being more
popular in the current years and also tended to be more comfortable, cost effective and
convenient to the customers and travellers. The other transport system includes rail transport and
roadways transport which have made the domestic travel and tourism more popular and
convenient for the local travellers.
Effect of Tourism on economy GDP - Tourism sector worldwide has created about 4.7
million jobs and now it provides employment to 266 million of people worldwide. Tourism
industry is the fastest growing industry in the world. The GDP of tourism industry is set to grow
about 4.7% in the upcoming years and have predicted to create more 6.5 million jobs for the
people across the world.
P2 Different elements in Travel and Tourism industry and their interrelation with tourist
experience
The following are the different elements of Tourism-
Pleasing Weather- A good weather terms out to be most important element in the
tourism sector which makes the holiday pleasant and memorable for the tourists. The popularity
among the travel to pleasant sunshine among the beaches across the countries like India, Sri
Lanka, Australia, Philippines having the beautiful beaches are the best examples where the
weather have played important role in tourist attraction.
Scenic attractions- Scenic attractions are also considered as the important elements for
Tourism industry. The attractions such as mountains, lakes, waterfalls, glaciers, forests, deserts
are some popular forces that attracts the travellers to visit them (Sharpley and Telfer, 2015).
Examples may include the northern slops of Alps in Switzerland and Austria, the mountain
slopes of Himalayas in India and many more. All these attractions influence the tourist to visit
and explore the true beauty of nature.

Historical and Cultural factors- These factors have exercised great influence over the
travellers across the world and even the domestic travellers. Large number of tourists are
attracted every year by the great drawing power of stratfood on Avon in England as it is
associated with Shakespeare. The city of Agra is mostly attracted due to its wonder creation
building of Taj Mahal.
Accessibility- Accessibility is another important element for tourism. The places and
destinations should be accessible by the normal means of transport which affects the minds of
tourists (Kiráľová and Pavlíčeka, 2015). More transport facilities be made available, more will
be the arrival of tourists. Other factors such as distance and mode of transport also affects the
tourist’s arrivals.
Accommodation- Accommodation plays a vital role in Tourism sector. There are many
changes in the type of accommodation such as holidays villages, camping and caravan sites etc.
have become more popular in tourism industry. The tourists visit to some places only because it
has first class hotels with excellent facilities being provided.
Amenities- These are the essential facilities for any tourist centres. Various type of
amenities such as swimming, boating, fishing, trekking etc. attracts more customers to visit and
purchase a travel package from the company. This element enables the satisfaction for the tourist
which makes them enjoy the trip.
Safety and security- Safety and security are also important element in tourism sector along
with the facilities and best services (Fang and et.al., 2016). The success and failure of any
tourism activity depends on the safety and security of tourists. This makes the tourist be more
reliable and trustworthy on many tourism company. Any complications regarding the downfall
of safety and security will lead to severe issue over the business of tourism.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it is summarized regarding the study of various milestones and
development in The travel and Tourism industry which has lead the industry to be the fastest
growing ion the world. The report concludes by understanding the key elements for the Tourism
industry and how they relate and influence on the tourist experience.
