INTRODUCTION
Career research is defined as the process through which an individual is able to execute
examination of the different alternatives available in front of a person for pursuing career in that
field. In other words, it can be identified as being the research which provides assistance to
personnel in determining the sector in which they prefer to seek entry. By undertaking an
effective career research, a person can gain knowledge of their prospective field and thereby start
working within it.
As I have just cleared my graduation, it is quite essential for me to select a field of
operation whereby I can apply my knowledge as well as skills to undergo personal and
professional development. With respect to this, I have opted for Travel and Tourism sector
looking upon growth and development of this industry. The report consists of primary and
secondary investigation to collect facts and findings about travel and tourism industry. The job
selected for analysis in this report is Travel and Tourism Agent.
ANALYSIS & APPLICATION
In Travel and tourism sector consist of the large no. of independent and large scale
business units that provides no. of services under one roof such as accommodation, travelling,
transportation, holiday and tours (Archer and et.al., 2020). It is one of most recognised and
growing sector in whole world as it provides employment opportunities to people. In the UK
marketplace the contribution of travel and tourism is approximately 80% of the overall economy.
The wideness of the markets can be witnessed from the fact that it generates overall revenue is
£106 billion every year. Respective sector majorly contributes in providing homes and quality
standards of living to people. As a travel agent which is one of most attractive growth
opportunity in the UK marketplace at wider scale. As an travel agent the major responsibility is
to satisfy the demand of people which is a tough task pursued during whole career.
Secondary research:
In secondary research consist of collection of knowledge and information from sources
that are already available in market such as publications of government, books and journals
(Ayyala and et.al., 2019). Respective kind of research proved beneficial in accumulating
information regarding travel and tourism to mould strategies and tactics accordingly.
General trends that impact on chosen profession:

The general trends related to the travel agent engaged in various activities such as
tourism services, accessing demand of consumers and many more. It is evaluated that roles and
responsibilities of respective designation should be evaluated by accessing trends in market.
During year 2017 the dwellers of England gain sum of £19 billion in total of 100.6 million in
domestic overnight trip (Beetham, Jones and Gornall, 2020). It pressure upon the large scale
operation of business and undergoing changes such as change in consumer taste and preferences,
sustainable tourism and change in culture and many more.
Example:
In the dynamic business world, Globalisation is one of most emerging trend which
enhance needs and wants of consumers at global level. To cope up with consumers expectancy
agencies need to come up with lucrative offers and benefits to attract large no. of tourist. With
other trend is advancement of technology such as Augmented reality, virtual reality and many
more.
Skills/ Knowledge and requirement of experience:
For a travel and tourism agent need to have some skills and knowledge to serve their
consumers in best manner that are as follows:
Communication:
Communication is one of important attribute needed to interact with customers
potentially (Gati, Levin and Landman-Tal, 2019). It should be clear and in concise manner to
give detailed information about trip.
Conflict management:
It is yet another relevant skill for a travel agent to handle lots of people simultaneously,
by handling their issues properly can be able to enhance experiences.
Knowledge area and experience:
Tourism:
For a travel agent it is potential to have specific knowledge about various locations and
their history. With the help of knowledge and experience they deliver memories to their
consumers positively (Gray, 2019).

Evaluation
With the completion of graduation degree course, it has now become quite important for
me to now select a prospective field within which I can pursue my career. The selection of field
would be done taking into account my skills, professional knowledge and competence. Post
execution of career research, I have decided to opt for travel and tourism industry to pursue my
career. Within the confines of this industry, I have decided to avail the position in tourism sector
as a travel agent. I regard it to be the most suitable career for me as I am an extrovert and like to
socialise with people on an extensive scale. I have effective interpersonal skills owing to which I
will be easily able to convince the clients to get an experience of the specialised tour packages
offered by the firm. Over the course of time, travel and tourism sector has emerged as one of the
most apparently developing sector with several opportunities for young individuals seeking a
career. Being the travel agent is suitable for me as I possess extensive comprehensibility of all
the trends and patterns of tourism. Apart from interpersonal skills, I possess the tactic to mould
the purchase behaviour of consumers within this industry in a manner such that they get
influenced to purchase the tour packages offered by the tour operator company. Thus, it would
not be wrong to say that opting for a career in travel and tourism industry would provide me with
the opportunity to make use of skills and knowledge for the upliftment of company as well as my
professional personality.
CONCLUSION
On the basis of discussion done above, it can be clearly stated that career researching is
important for an individual in order to identify a prospective field for starting operations. In
addition to this, it has been analysed that primary and secondary sources of data collection serve
as the tools to gather key facts and findings about travel and tourism sector. Apart from this, it is
recognised that several global trends have shaped and inflated the prospective value of this
industry across the globe. Some of the examples of these trends are acknowledged to be voice
technology, Augmented Reality, Internet of Things, Virtual Reality, cognitive computing, online
booking, Artificial Intelligence and many more.
