1.1 Evaluate approach to self-managed learning and identify which approach is suitable
for Travelodge Hotel
Self-managed learning is the learning process that is initiated by the individual itself. This
can be termed as the way by which goals, objectives as well as learning targets are set by the
individual. Moreover, there are various approaches of self-managed learning that can be
applicable in the hotel. It includes motivational learning, seminars and conferences, social
networks. It is described as below:
Motivational Learning
It is one of the best ways to manage the organization in an effective way. It benefits the
organization to increase the productivity. For example, when in the organization the
employees are encourages and complimented for their better work. Then, they become
interested in doing the work with more efforts that in result increases the productivity (Hadar
and Brody, 2013).

The self-learning can also be through seminars and conferences as it provides the individual
to present itself better in front of others. It also provides more confidence in the people.
Along with this, it also helps people in developing presentation skills.

Social network is also the good approach of self-learning as the individual can do surfing
over internet and develop its own skills and knowledge.
As being the manager of Travelodge Hotel social network and motivational approach can be
suggested. These two approaches will be helpful in increasing business productivity. In terms
of motivational approach, it enables the staff to select their own personal objectives as well as
resources in which the individual wants to learn. It helps the employees to get satisfied as
they have the liberty to make development in their own skills. This approach will be quite
beneficial for Travelodge Hotel (Korthagen, 2017). Along with this, social network is also
suitable for Travelodge Hotel. It helps the employees in learning as well as attracting the
maximum customers towards their hotel.
Justification
As being the manager at Travelodge Hotel, Social network and Motivational approach are
good. The team is managed by me so I prefer this approach suitable. According to my views

1.2 Identify ways for Travelodge in which lifelong learning can be encouraged
The life-long learning process can be defined as the process in which an individual collects
all its learning and information. It can be done through SWOT. Through this, the individual
can identify its strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. By determining its own
weakness the individual can improve that particular area. As being manager at Travelodge, I
can suggest different methods or techniques or ways can be taken into consideration by
Travelodge, Hotel. Various techniques or ways described below:
SWOT
Travelodge can be suggested the SWOT technique as it would allow the staff to assess their
own strength and weaknesses. With the help of this technique, the staff can improve their
own weaknesses by developing a plan and start working on it. Through this technique, the
individual is not under anybody he/she himself/ herself evaluate weakness and strength.

As being the manager, formal mentorship program can also be suggested for the staff of
Travelodge Hotel. This is one of the best ways of life-long learning in the company (Moon,

Self-managed learning with career growth and promotion
In my opinion, as to the manager, I also suggest self-managed learning technique is the best
technique. As the staff, when engaging itself in the self-learning would be helpful in having
career growth, promotion, rewards as well as awards (Avery and Reeve, 2013).
It can also use theories of motivation to motivate the staff at work and this will be the life-
long process.

Individual benefits
As the assistant manager at Travelodge, I got several benefits from self-managed learning.
After the self-managed learning, I was more confident in handling the team in an effective
manner. I applied SWOT technique by which I focused on my weak points like lack of self-
confidence and hesitation. This self-managed learning helped me in improving my weak
points. For example, this helped me in hiring most talented employees for Travelodge, Hotel.

In terms of organization benefits, I also satisfy customer easily due to self-managed learning.
For example, the manager with appropriate skills can easily handle the problems faced by the
customers. The communication level is also become strong through self-manage learning. I
am able to interact with large number of people at Travelodge and help them in solving their
problems if any. At last, it can be said that the person with self-managed learning can easily
apply skills and attribute to gain strategy of business.

2.1 Identify own current skills and competencies against professional standards for the
manager of hotel and against organizational objectives of Travelodge hotel
For having professional standards at hotel it is required for the manager of hotel to have own
skills and knowledge. Mostly, for all the profile in the organization, the skills and knowledge
are required. With the help of effective skills, the manager of the hotel can easily plan and
organize accommodation as well as promoting business and managing plans in an effective
manner. In addition, current skills and competencies of mine include managing finance plans
as well as proving training to the staff. This is applicable to the hotel manager. Moreover, I
am working as an Assistant Manager at Travelodge Hotel my role is to create a plan, policy,
recruit and train the staff (Bjork et al., 2013). Therefore, it is essential for me to have
different skills and competencies that would be helpful meeting up the objectives of hotel.
Self-evaluation and feedback method can be used to evaluate my own effectiveness,
leadership skills, and communication skills. Decision making is also another essential skill
that helps me in easily assigning a particular role to each employee. In addition, I have
identified certain weakness in myself. It includes lack of knowledge in terms of global

standards, lack of command over different language. This weakness has to be improved in me
by practicing communication. This would help Travelodge in gaining objectives for the
business.

I have to develop my skills and activities by encouraging myself towards improving skills
like leadership skills, communication skills, as discussed (Moon, 2013). This depicts my
weakness. As the assistant manager at Travelodge Hotel I had to make an improvement in my
several skills which are described as below:
Leadership skills
I had to focus on improving my leadership skills to lead the team in an effective manner. This
would be helpful in increasing the performance of company. By applying leadership skills I
can easily motivate the people and encourage them for the work. Moreover, this skill can be
gained by taking feedback from the seniors and make improvement if any.
Communication Skills
This skill is also lack in me as I have the problem of communicating to the people in different
languages. So this skill has to be improved in me by focusing on my communication part. I

By improving the skills such as leadership skills, communication skills as well as managerial
skills I can get opportunities in future as well as in current. By improving these skills I can
handle the team in an effective manner in current as well as in future. I can also provide
knowledge to the staff about the task. While working at Travelodge Hotel as the assistant
manager I can plan for its future benefit through my leadership skills. I can communicate
with the team members on the regular basis and help them in solving their problems. This can
be considered as the opportunity inside the hotel that is helpful in improving the skill
development needs (Harrington et al., 2014). I can also innovate development programmes

personality development, team building modules, knowledge development.
