TASK 1
1.1 Developing own responsibilities and performance objectives
skills and knowledge abilities of an individual is of self-reliant nature. Skills are basically
defined as the learning an individual receive from his education qualifications and knowledge
form the external environment (du Plessis, 2015). I have joined Travelogue as a manager and to
develop my managerial skills and to evaluate myself, I have selected Smart tool. This tool helped
me in analysing my roles and responsibilities in a better manner. Role and responsibilities
fulfilled by me are as follows-
ï‚· evaluate my knowledge and managerial skills according to the current projects and duties
assigned.
ï‚· Constructed decisions to eradicate the conflict situations.
ï‚· To figure out the skills which are required to perform a certain task.
ï‚· Analysing the opportunities from the market for the growth of the organisation.
Performance objectives- To formulate the effective and desired objectives for the organisation
in a set period of time is a complicated process. To set the organisational objectives I need to
analyse the market effectively and I need to examine my strengths and weaknesses according to
the market opportunities. The objectives which I selected for myself are as follows-
ï‚· Utilization of various methods through which action can be elevated of employees:
Individual appraisal method for all the employees result advantageous for me because it

helps in intensify the presentation of the workers (Hine, 2018). Primary methods that can
be utilized here are increase in the pay scale, bonuses and etc. Also employees should be
promoted on the basis of their respective strengths.
ï‚· Time management: it is considered as the very crucial part of managerial skills. Being a
manager I need to construct my time management skills appropriately to be able to
develop it in the other employees as well.
These measures really helped me to define my personal objectives and various
responsibilities that I need to handle. Many more measures are need to be considered apart from
these and they are decision making, interpersonal skills and so on.
1.2 Evaluation of self effectiveness in comparison to defined objectives
I preferred to choose appraisal method at Travelodge to motivate the employees. This
appraisal method resulted in eradicating the employee the turnover rate in the organisation and
also indulged them in performing well for the organisation in a desired manner (Collet, 2013).
Increase in the salary and the various incentive schemes leads to the completion of work in a
effective manner. The training and development programmes helped in increasing the abilities
and skills of the employees.
Performance appraisal was also considered by me with the assistance of production
informations. In this method different assessment schemes can be taken into consideration like
rankings, comparisons among the performances based on the tragets and so on. With the help of
these assessment methods, I will be capable to improve myself as well as the employees. With
this I will be able to appoint roles and responsibilities to the employees according to their
strengths and weaknesses in the organisation.

1.4 Motivational techniques for improving quality performance
Motivation is considered as the vast process because it consist of internal as well as
external factors. These both forces are responsible for the performances of the employees. To
maintain the balance in motivation in the employees, the manager is required to conduct various
training and development programs for the staff of Travelodge. The motivational theory used by
the manager is as follow:
Maslow's Need Hierarchy Theory: This theory of motivation consist of various needs
which an employee possess in himself that is directly related to his performance in the
organisation. It helps in satisfying the employees needs and boost their motivation level. As, per
this theory basic needs of an employee is categorised in five elements which are as follows:
ï‚· Physiological needs- These needs include basic requirements of the employees to satisfy
themselves which are food, shelter, water and all the basic amenities (Asonitou, 2015).
ï‚· Safety needs- These needs consist of basic safety concerns which are related to the
health and care security, etc.
ï‚· Love and belongingness- These needs are described as intangible in nature and involve
requirements by employees in he way of supportive atmosphere from the subordnates
and so on.
ï‚· Esteem needs- These needs are considered as the factors which are based on self
respect, confidence and achievements in comparison to the co-workers.
ï‚· Self-actualisation needs- This is the highest level in the need theory. This need is

TASK 2
2.1 Develop solutions to work-based problems
MEMO
To: Senior management
From: Training & development manager
Date: 14.4. 2019
Subject: Identification of problem related to work based scenario
As a manager, I found various work based problems such as ineffective communication
and poor leadership during my experience at the Travelodge. An impact of these problems have
put negative working structure to this organisation and has led this hotel to loss its brand image
into the market of United Kingdom (Adnan and et. Al 2017). Previously, management has taken
step to overcome such problem, but only few results have been noticed, which is not adequate.
Ineffective leadership and poor communication have impacted Travelodge in their
operational activities and also effected their productivity as well as profitability at the similar
manner.
2.2 Communicate in a variety of styles and appropriate manner at various levels
After developing and identification of work based issues and problems, As a manager, I
have decided to take several measures or solution to these issues by bringing training &
development to each and every employee with orientation to them on the monthly basis along
with providing them with learning solution with accurate knowledge. For solution of this, I have
decided to conduct training sessions for new comers of the Travelodge, who joined few time
back to enables these important traits in them to avoid any misshapenness into the Travelodge
regarding any work context. Training & development for minimum 2 months has been decided
as solution to overcome both leadership and communication issues in Travelodge.

2.3 Identify effective time-management strategies
To the line manager,
As, my role of manager in Travelodge has faced various mixed experiences. In addition
to this, I found that organisation structure is consists of improper time management with
planning, which has effected employee motivation and confidence at the huge level. Also,
ineffective management of time has impacted output generation of this hotel organisation along
with diminishing the productivity and results (Natoli, 2015). Also, no positive step has been take
in regard to this, so as a manager, I have decide to go through various strategies for productive
management of time such as Starting of office work with clear focus, pursue the dynamic task
list, focus on high return activities, minimize interruptions, stop procrastinating and evaluate self
at the end of the day. It has been noticed that this stepping stones process has been initiated by
Thomas cook to time management and planning effective (Jackson, 2015). As, Travelodge has
taken complete decision making over this strategies for its implementation for bringing the
effective management into the firm. As a manager, it noticed positive gesture from employee in
regards with proper and effective time keeping and completion of their assigned goals at the right
time tenure. These strategies will result into the growth of Travelodge hotel to raise their
business growth and encouraged policies to take effective decision making. It was noted that,
effective time management is necessary for manager to pursue their work into the given point of
time along with establishing base of information into given point of time.
TASK 3
3.1 Explain the roles people play in a team and how they can work together to achieve shared
goals
For effective working of an effective team, it is necessary that each & every individual
must be aligned to their defined task into the pre-stage of the role play or its process. As a
training & development manager, It was noticed that, lack of common interest & barriers to an
effective communication with support of an each members is a major cause of why there was
high employee turnover rate in the Travelodge hotel (Messum, 2014). As a training &
development manager, I got a major planned for completion of an employee induction pack,
which is implemented with agenda to create motivation in new and existing employee to build an

effective team working for accomplishment of defined goals and targets of a Travelodge hotel. In
a team, people should be assigned group targets with freedom to contribute with their individual
efforts. In addition to this, every single efforts must be aligned to pre-defined goals of the team.
Also, they can work together with common interest, thinking and as pre-born collaboration. As a
training & development manager, I realised that, there is a need of new employee in order to
fulfil work based gaps by assigning any specific role to new joined employee, so that they will
work with their right efforts to attain business goals of the Travelodge in an effective manner.
3.2 Analyse team dynamics
In the given situation of team dynamics, new employee's needs to have proper skills and
competencies which are highly required to make new joined employee complete and clear for
working with an aim of fulfilling space of left employee's. For these new joined employee's,
there is a requirement of dynamics such as effective working, communication, leadership and
also work based traits of an employee to generate suitable results out of the given one. For these
new employee's, to led effective and increasing performance of an employee, Travelodge HR
Dept. should give training and development to their new employee's to raise their business
expectancy and profitability for Travelodge hotel.
3.3 Suggest alternative ways to complete tasks and achieve team goals
There are various critical ways through which given task can be achieved. That can be
higher level of risk, dangerous zone, where even Travelodge destroy their own business and its
real profitability. As a training and development manager, I realised that, there is need of some
peaceful and correct ways through which tasks or defined work could be achieved. In the
Travelodge hotel, five new employee's have been joined and resource allocation is required in tht
context to effective working in an organisation. In this context, effective training and
development and employee induction program needs to be planned in order to generate relative
response to bear loss of a previous employee's of the Travelodge hotel. The most suitable way
through task is establishment of strategic planning in order to generate support results out of the
defined roles and responsibilities (Jackling, 2018). It was noticed that employee's of Travelodge
hotel are no more interested in individual goals and targets, because of ineffective competition to
employee's because of of which there performance has been decreased at a higher context.
Effective induction and appropriate training can be suitable option to pursue to effective
working.

TASK 4
4.1 Evaluate tools and methods for developing solutions to problems
Problem is an major issue which stands in middle of success and failure of any particular
project. Suppose, in case, if problem is solved, success of the project is sure or pre-determined or
if problem has not been solved, then it would be huge challenge to accomplish the defined goals
for Travelodge hotel. Here, the major issue is high labour turnover into the Travelodge. For
solution of this problem, there are several ways which might be used to solve an issue of high
turnover such as SWOT analysis of an individual person, getting realize their actual strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities and threats to analyse scope for bringing change (Kawazoe, 2015).
Also, brainstorming is an another way to solve high turnover to retain maximum labour for
higher productivity of the Travelodge hotel. SWOT as a tool, will help Travelodge to understand
their each and every employee's and also their individual demand and wants to get their right and
proper utilization. SWOT of an individual helps to identify any particular problem and also when
problem would find, appropriate solution of it will be find with an ease. Brainstorming would
help Travelodge to gather their employee's to make clear-cut discussion about an issues to take
corrective measures to solve it.
4.2 Develop an appropriate strategy for resolving a particular problem of labour turnover
Labour turnover is the situation where employee's are used to leave the organisation as a
result of any non-compliance or improper working condition in an organisation. For example: if
remuneration will not be up-to-mark, in that employee will look for another alternative or work
into the different organisation with remuneration according to his choice. Also, negative working
environment, culture and poor behaviour with an employee would make it leave the company.
Basically, it is a Red alert for Travelodge hotel to take this issues seriously to maintain
employee's common interest into this hotel.
There are various strategies through which high labour turnover can be prevent into the
Travelodge such as: well-planned training & development, employee orientation on frequent
basis to know their actual problems for removing it in best possible with agenda to maintain their
common interest into the Travelodge hotel. The next strategy says that top management level of
the Travelodge hotel are required to rise the remuneration & incentives of their employee's to

maintain interest towards its job role in the Travelodge hotel. This is why because high salary
attracts an employee to the organisation, irrespective of being known about the profile of the
company (Ito, 2013). Its a truth now-a days. Hence, Travelodge hotel is required to develop their
own strategies to retain maximum employee in their organisation to enhance maximum
productivity in an organisation.
4.3 Evaluate the potential impact on the business of implementing the strategy
After implementation of retention strategies, it is necessary to evaluate those steps to
check its suitability in an organisation (Mohammed, 2015). As a manager, I needs to look over
actual people who are looking to leave the Travelodge hotel, because of reason specified into the
previous assessment. Strategies such as identifying any shortcoming into the remuneration
system and pay employee as per their choice or actual potential along with giving training to
them to fulfil their required skills. Understanding an employee at every phase of their working
will helpful in getting their problems being judged and also facilitates taking right decision to
make happy. As a manager, I noticed that employee's happiness and satisfaction is connected
with fair remuneration paying to them and also the ways they are being treated into the
organisation. Hence, impact of all these strategies will be positive and productive for Travelodge
hotel.
