1.2 Evaluate own effectiveness against defined objectives
Being a travel manager of Travelodge my main objective should be to work by benefiting the
organisation, and my efforts and each step should be towards the achievement of the objectives
of Travelodge. To achieve the objectives, I took the special training so that I can undertake my
roles and responsibilities appropriately and effectively. It is my responsibility to regularly check
the target objectives. The effectiveness of the defined objectives can be evaluated by applying
the different appraisal systems which include the following-
Management By objectives-In this appraisal system, supervisors and employees are required to
agree on the set of objectives before doing an evaluation (Griffin, 2018).
Checklist and Grading- for the rating of each employee grades from letter A to F will be used in
different categories. List of certain questions is asked in the checklist; to be answered in yes or
No. This will be used in the evaluation of performance by comparing with the predetermined
standards set.
Training needs- The needs of training required to be conducted is also an evaluation standard to
measure the effectiveness of performance. A training session has been arranged by me for my
team members for improving the knowledge and performance of my team.
Salary levels and bonus payments- the level of salary increment depends on the performance of
an individual. The payment of bonus will be given if there is the high-level performance of the
employees.
Communication- Appraisal system will be properly communicated by me, and every employee
should understand it properly then only it will be effective.

1.4 Review how motivational techniques can be used to improve the quality of performance
By adopting different techniques of motivation, quality of performance can be improved. A
motivated employee works as a boon for the company. According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of
Theory, Lower level needs must be satisfied first to move to the4 ne4xt level needs which are for
security and safety. In lower level needs, needs of shelter and physical needs are included. For
motivating human resources, this theory plays an important role. Flexible working hours can be
given to employees so that he can focus on his family too (McLeod, 2018). Hertzberg’s two-
factor theory defines Hygiene and motivational factors. Motivational factors motivate employees
to work hard and lead satisfaction to them (Mitchell, 2013). Hygiene factors describe that in the
absence of salary, benefits, company policies, working conditions, employees can lack
motivation and will result in dissatisfaction. By applying all these theories of motivation in an
organisation, the performance of the employees can enhance (Yusoff.et.al, 2013).
Conclusion
It can be concluded from the report that being a travel manager of Travelodge, I have many
responsibilities which I need to perform effectively. Key performance indicators and objectives
will help me in evaluating my performance. I will get to know the areas where improvements are
required. The organisation should adopt some motivational techniques to improve the quality of
the performance of all the members and employees of the organisation.

TASK2.
2.1 Develop solutions to work-based problems. You need to develop solutions to at least two
work-based problems identified during your experience or in your role as a manager at the
Travelodge hotel.
Introduction
In this report of Travelodge, the two problems occurring at the workplace has been defined, and
their solutions have been described in detail.
Travelodge has its operations across various parts of the globe, and it has a good reputation all
over the world. But instead of this, the main problem in the working environment of Travelodge
is communication. There are various elements due to which there is a distortion of
communication. In the hospitality sector, communication is an essential component of operations
of the organisation. In the present competitive era, a major problem is the low level of
communication skills. Staff and individuals have misinterpreted the communication skills
(Green, 2018).
The verbal and non-verbal channel of communication is the most effective solution for solving
problems. These channels can be used as a source for increasing awareness which will increase
the primary concentration. It means that all the staff of Travelodge should learn how to express a
message, their behaviour with customers or colleagues. Training sessions can be arranged within
the organisation for each staff member.
The second major issue at Travelodge is Interpersonal conflicts between co-workers.
Interpersonal conflicts not only result in productivity loss, wastage of employee time, grievances,
litigation, and strained relationship but also cause employee turnover and absenteeism. It is the
responsibility of the human resource manager that he should listen to each party’s story from
their side without any judgment and taking any side of the party. The supportive atmosphere
should be created to diffuse the conflicts. The best way for handling the conflict is to remind
workers of having an open dialogue and that the matter will become worse if not handled for a
