1.2 Evaluate own effectiveness against defined objectives
As a manager in Travelodge I need to evaluate the personal effectiveness along with the goals
and objectives which is assigned to me from the company which is to increase the sales and
profits of the organisation and to evaluate it, I have to proceed in a the systematic manner.
1. Equal distribution of the responsibility: each team member has their own skills and
abilities in which they are good at and based upon that I have assigned their
responsibilities among them. Therefore, each employee has to perform their share of
responsibility and they will be able to complete their task effectively.

organisation has planned for their safety and needs. The organisation offers various
benefits to the employees such as health insurance, Discount coupons etc which they
are not aware about. I have made them understand about all these additional benefits
which they have which makes them feel happy that the organisation also thinks about
them and motivate them to achieve their targets.
4. Linking of individual goals with organisational
In order to understand the self-effectiveness against the desired objective it is advisable to
conduct the SWOT analysis which can help to give clarity upon the areas where I am
performing better and the area where I need to improve which is as follows:
Strengths: Overall, the about tactics helped me to improve the efficiency of my team. The
employees have now started to work upon the achievement of the organisational objectives as
they are able to link their individual goals with the organisational goals. The training and
development has also benefitted the employees to improve the overall sales of the team and
the understanding about the policies and benefits which are given by the employees have
motivated them for work (Wilton, 2011).

Weakness: It took 4 months to implement the entire process and make my team understand
about the benefits they will get when they achieve the team target. The initial response by
them was very slow which has resulted in delay in the achievement of the targets.
Opportunity: These strategies will improve the overall efficiency among the employees
along with the improvement in the quality of the services which are offered to both the
customers and to the vendors. Now, the employees are ready to work in challenging
situations which works positively for me for my personal as well as professional
development.
Threats: The time which it took to achieve the result was too lengthy which may not be
accepted by the organisation as they have to wait a lot to achieve the desired outcome. The
organisation also require to invest upon the training and development of the employees which
is time consuming meanwhile the competition also increases in the particular time frame.

1.3 Make recommendations for improvement
The various recommendations to improve the organisational effectiveness are as below:
1. The communication among the employees is not very strong and it needs to be
improved which can help Travelodge to increase their sales as they will be able to
make their employees understand about their goals and objectives only when they will
have clear line of communication. These can be achieved through conducting training
sessions and arranging group discussions among the employees and management.
2. The organisation focuses more on the autocratic style of leadership which does not
allow the employees to participate in the process of decision making because of which
they lack with the skill of leadership. Travelodge needs to improve their
organisational culture and they have to start delegating the responsibilities to the
employees and allow them to take day to day decisions (Lowden, et. al., 2011).
3. The employees of Travelodge also lacks the presentation skills because of which they
are unable to increase the sales as they are not able to present themselves effectively
with the customers and also with the vendors.
4. The employees lack the self-management skills because of which they are unable to
complete their targets within the specified time period which can be improved through
continuously sharing the knowledge and making effective process which can help
them to work smartly so that they can achieve their target within the deadline.
5. The employees does not have sufficient knowledge about the packages and offers that
are offered by Travelodge because of which they are not able to offer right type of
services to the customers which impacts upon the loss of customers and profits for the
organisation this can be improved by offering employee development program which
will help them to understand to develop right type of knowledge which is required in
them to perform the job.

1.4 Review how motivational techniques can be used to improve quality of performance
After analysing the current situations of the employees in Travelodge, I have been able to
understand the various issues and challenges which are faced by the employees and in order
to overcome these situations the team leader has already started implementing various
strategies which can improve the skills, level of communication, interpersonal skills etc.
among the member of the team. In order to encourage the employees, various motivational
theories can be implemented to improve the efficiency among the employees.
In order to encourage the efficiency Maslow hierarchical need theory can be implemented to
improve the performance quality. According to this theory, there are five types of factors
which motivate the employees to work effectively which are as below:

As per this theory the most essential way to motivate the employees is through fulfilling their
needs. The lower level employees are keener toward fulfilling their basic needs which is
related with the physical need and shelter need. Under this the Maslow’s theory plays an
essential role as the management tries to focus upon fulfilling the basic needs of the
employees. For example: if any employee is facing some financial issues than the manager
need to understand that the requirement of the employee an offer him the same which he
requires which will motivate him. It is essential for the managers to link the individual goals
of the employees with their organisational goals which keep them motivated.
In the study conducted by McGregor, he has identified two different types of employees. One
who is willing to work and consider work as pressure whereas other employees are the one
who takes the work in simple manner? But the employees which are not motivated are the
one who are not willing to work and looks for other job. In such situations, the manager must
find out the ways in which he can motivate these employees, because the employees who are
motivated will work more effectively for the organisation which will help the organisation to
gain the competitive edge for the organisation. The various benefits the manager can offer to
motivate the employees are as follows:
Provides transportation: Now-a-days, transportation is one of the major problems
which are faced by the employees and the organisation which can provide the
transportation facilities to the employees is a form of non-monitory motivation.
Housing Facility: The companies can also offer housing facilities to their employees
which can reduce their expenses on rent etc. which will motivate the employees to
perform better.
Reward: in order to measure the performance of the workers the organisation can
implement various reward and the employees who will perform the targets will get
monetary rewards.
Bonus: this is another method which can motivate the employees. The employees who
are able to perform effectively is able to receive bonus from the organisational profit.
In such cases the employees feel motivated to perform better.
Conclusion: It is the responsibility of the manager to guide its employees in the right
direction and increase their level of performance by motivating them in the right manner
which will help them to achieve the organisational objectives.
