Introduction
I am an assistant manager of Travelodge Ilford, but currently my hotel is facing a turnover of the
employees since the last three years. In the assignment the hotel Travelodge is the center of the
research and four tasks are presented that would help the hotel in prospering in future. The
development opportunities are identified for meeting the current as well as the future needs. In
Task 1, the lodge has embarked on the process of the personal and professional development. In
Task 2, the responsibilities that I need to take as an assistant manager has been mentioned. In
Task 3, the implementation of the development plans have been mentioned. In Task 4, the
problem of employee turnover and the necessary steps to be adopted are taken.

Individuals can learn via the research they are taking on as the part of their work or assignment,
which they have been issued. Moreover, this can be found that employee can be able to learn
various techniques by doing the research. There are three Major approaches to self-management
learning and those are such as seminars and conferences, social networks and Internet.
1.1. Evaluate approaches to self-managed learning. Which approach can be more suitable
for you or your staff at Travelodge Hotel?
Seminars and conferences
People can get knowledge in various topics with the help of Seminars and conferences. Seminars
and conferences can be considered as very useful tool as this provides the chance to show idea to
other regarding anything and help them to learn new things (Hao et al., 2016). In addition, this
can be seen that Seminars and conferences assists people to become much confident for speaking
in public and developing the personal skills such as transferrable skills, which can be utilized in
the range of organizational settings. I also realized in the learning event of Travel Lodge that it is
effective for empowering both the individual and organizational.
Social Networks
There are several social network and those are such as Facebook, Twitter and lots of others. In
the present time, people generally spend most of their time in these social networks. People
generally; use this to maintain their contact with people but along with that they come to know
about various things as well. I came to know about Mark Zuckerberg and the way he got success
in their life. In my opinion all of the individuals, who attend the learning event of Travel Lodge
can apply Zukerbergs in their life.
Internet
The internet can be considered as the home of lots of data regarding any kind of topic in world.
There is one site for specialist search like Google scholar and this is very helpful to accessing
academic articles and journals (Rahimi et al., 2015). These are generally written by the experts

on the assorted range of subject. I learn regarding the internet that this helps the people to access
data, which is written by various authors in various subjects such as risk management, business
and the management studies. From the learning event, this is learnt by all employees including
me that with the help of internet, people can obtain the idea, which are essential in their work
place (Dolmans et al., 2015).
In the above three major approaches are described and after providing all the description, I
understand that internet is more suitable among all. There are several reasons for choosing
internet as the most suitable for the staffs of Travel Lodge Hotel (McLean et al. 2016). Internet is
very effective for searching any kind of data. Any people can become able to learn several things
with the help of internet.
There are various types of processes to encourage the lifelong learning of employees and the
managers of Travel Lodge needs to follow all of these processes to encourage their employees
regarding this.
1.2. Propose ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional contexts could be
encouraged at Travelodge. In this question, you should say how you as a manager could
encourage lifelong learning at Travelodge Hotel.
As the manager of Travel Lodge, I generally used seven ways to encourage my employees for
lifelong learning. The ways are mentioned and described in below.
Allow staffs to self-direct their knowledge
I think that manager needs to provide the facilities to their employees to learn anything and allow
them to choice what they learning. Allow the employees to select are very effective and this
encourages employees to learn. I think that one employee can have the better understanding
about what they need to learn.
Make learning goals as significant as the performance goal
I always told my employees of Travel Lodge Hotel that make your own learning goal and make
it as significant as performance goal.

Utilize casual learning check-ins
This is one of the essential ways to encourage employees for livelong learning.
Make the staffs connected with encouraging mentors
Employees need to connect with the mentors and I also set one mentor for my employees, who
encourage them for this.
Making the chances for getting social knowledge
I always make the opportunities for my employees to help them to obtain social knowledge. This
is very effective process to encourage employees (Girvan et al., 2015).
Create a library of all the learning resources
I made one library in my hotel for my employees, which contains all learning resources. These
help them to get knowledge.
Identifying learning as an accomplishment
Learning is a very effective process to develop personal knowledge and I always told my
employees to identify learning as the accomplishment.

There are many advantages of self-managed learning and these facilities both the organization
and manager (Tan et al., 2015). As the assistant manager of Travel Lodge, I realized that my
hotel and me both get benefits of self-managed learning.
Benefits to Assistant manager
Self-management learning can be considered as more useful to learn few particular skills. For
example, individuals and presentation skills are profited by learning those skills via self-
managed learning. Self-managed learning is very flexible and this helps me to be more

I have learned from my experiences that it is very crucial to make various self-developmental
changes that will help the company to enhance (Cottrell, 2015). To make a positive move in the
company, one needs to bring several changes for the betterment of the company. Therefore, it is
better to make a list related to the developing of self-skills;
Being specific – this skill would help me to grasp the knowledge that needs to done with
tactics for further development in the company. Being familiar with the working notions,
it helps to create a different genre that shifts the quality of the work in a better way.
Self-confidence – this is one of the most crucial important skill that I need to work upon.
Self-confidence needs to build for putting forward the work with designated norms. This
skill helps to motivate oneself and the other employees. This skill creates the space for
own realization regarding the work. This skill includes the ability to pull up the solution
from every possible adversary. Such skills also create the region for throwing tough
competition to the others (Jølstad et al, 2017).
Public speaking – this skill paves way from an indirect source of communication skill. To
maintain the designation of a manager, it is very important to be an eloquent speaker.
Public speaking comprises the ability to turn over the crowd towards oneself.
Creativity – this skill helps to create a different level for the assigned work. Creativity has
always led the way for further enhancement in the company. Creativity divides the post
from other designations.

Ethics and Integrity – this skill helps to bind the quality of work and invites various ways
of opportunities. This skill deals with passionate rhythm of the work that delves with the
core points of the company.

Which opportunities are available for you inside or outside of the hotel to improve your
skill development needs?
The above stated qualities successfully bring major changes in the company for better
enhancement. According to my opinion, self-growth is necessary to bring various changes in
one’s life. Positive changes help to build a more organized human in an organization and that
helps to make the competition much stronger with other firms. To be more specific, I need to
carry all the knowledge related to the work and that will help to bring change in the working
class of Travelodge Hotel (Holt et al, 2016).
To manage the ability to speak in public, I need to speak in front of mirror that will help me to
connect with other people. The developing of public speaking helps to erase the fear from
interaction with others.
To bring stupendous changes in the company, one to build such qualities that will make the
organization better than others will. As a manager, one to brush up those qualities that will help
to build up self-growth and that will lead enhancement in the company (mystarjob.com 2019).
