Introduction
In recent marketplace, hospitality sector largely depends on the personal along with interpersonal
skills in such occupations. In this context, the abilities of an individual may be identified through
the knowledge along with skills. This report will aim to assess the personal development
activities for better development of career. For being the assistant manager at Travelodge, the
main job would be taking the accountability of individual development of employees within a
company. Thus, a development would be represented in this task. Lastly, several methods along
with activities will also recognise and time management skills will evaluate for reducing the
employee turnover.
Task 1: (LO1, AC1.1, 1.2, 1.3)
1.1 Review the approach in the direction of self-managed learning
In Travelodge, self-managed learning brings a huge factor for all the employees who mainly gain
the idea by learning something. In context to Travelodge, it must be having several skills and
knowledge of the different aspects. In this context, self-managed learning is the most efficient
process that may support an individual to improve his skills. It may offer perfect development in
the employee’s career and make their strong enough in order to counter any types of issues
within company or their life (Beausaert et al., 2013). In recent time, several numbers of
approaches may utilize to influence the process of self-learning. The duration of information may
reach a novel stage where a worker acquires skills and information from different books, journals
as well as articles. Interview and survey procedure may support him to collect the significant
knowledge and imply this to develop the career performance. Several approaches in self-
managed learning are given below:
Internet- Internet is the most effective and common aspect or approach that support in the
individual development. In a short time, an individual may get the information about several
aspects from internet (Beausaert et al., 2011). Further, a person may learn management process,

risk management and several other procedures by using the internet service. It also supports to
recognise the responsibilities of an assistant manager in efficient way.
Conferences and seminars- In conferences and seminars, several citizens are coming toward
share their thinking and view that supports an individual to improve his knowledge. It also plays
a significant position in the overall process of self-learning. Several seminars along with
conferences are held frequently where a worker or individual may recognise the means of self-
management as well as learning (DiPaola and Wagner, 2018). The information and data may be
gained by an individual and he may be capable to collect important knowledge regarding the
subject.
Social networking- In recent time, social networking is an important factor to develop the
knowledge and skills. It is not limited to interactions between several people living at different
regions but it may support the people to interact with each other and share their views. Twitter,
Facebook and Instagram are several sites that may access by an individual to gain the knowledge
(Dweck, 2013). However, practical approach may also obtain from YouTube, which supports an
individual to learn the techniques.
On the other hand, online portals and libraries have been the main sources of improving the
learning process between the persons in contrast to Travelodge hotel.
1.2 Determine the ways in personal and professional contexts at Travelodge
Lifelong learning procedure is a method where individuals include studying several aspects
constantly throughout his life. In professional context, lifelong learning can get by an individual
for assessing the personal development. Further, SWOT analysis may support a person to obtain
and learn the information concerning the particular topic. An individual needs to know the
deficits by showing SWOT analysis (Eisele et al., 2013). Further, the individual may know the
regions where development plan has to be done to find a way where problematic regions should
convert into strength zone. Personal reflection along with SWOT analysis may support an
individual to identify these aspects (King, 2014). Several wars are given as follows:
Setting the goals- In Travelodge, setting the objectives or goals may support an employee to

with strength to improve their personal traits. In the similar time, SWOT analysis may support
the employees to recognise the threats that may be necessary to rectify for developing the skills
(Visser et al., 2014). If an individual is conscious about the issues and understand the regions
where he wants to modernize him by gathering innovative ideas and he may be updating himself
concerning to the situation. Therefore, SWOT analysis must be obtained on the regular basis to
know the strengths and recognise the weakness for better improvement.
Personal reflection- In case of Travelodge, personal reflection may come from internal
inspiration of a person. Besides, a person may capable to imitate on himself while he discovers
that impressive something is happened towards him. It also supports to recognise the regions
where weaknesses and threats are apparent and he may be developed the skills by finding those
regions (Prosek and Hurt, 2014). An individual may asses its performance in an effective manner
by using the personal reflection. Thus, it is assessed based on inner motivation and encourages

recognise the regions where he has toward face the shortfall and threats. However, an individual
has to ensure that he has capable to understand the significance of learning and collecting the
information concerning the subjects. It is credible that some types of skills must develop in order
to enhance lifelong development at Travelodge (Gamrat et al., 2014). This also supports an
individual to create a presentable look in any seminar or conference.
Communication skills- It is the main aspect for carrying the self-learning process as major people
have insufficient communication skills within society. Self-managed learning supports the
people to enhance their communication skills as they communicate with different people and

collect the facts and information concerning a particular subject. In case of Travelodge, it makes
the presentation skills in an effective manner for developing the skills and knowledge (Maher,
2018). It is credible that the personal development, along with knowledge and skills, presentation
skills are an important factor and a person requires understanding the skills to develop his
position within organisation.

direction as they attain the objectives. Efficient leadership skills will be necessary to attain the
better outcomes within a desired frame. For leading the team or group, my leadership skill could
be a vital factor to evaluate the organisational objectives. For being assistant manager, I
encompass to motivate the workers toward perform well and met the organisational objectives in
an effective manner (Mone and London, 2018). However, it has founds that proper study in
leadership skills should be conducted to motivate and direct the employees.
Time management skills- In Travelodge, individual should know about the significance of time
and must need to complete his tasks in the given time. For having effective time management,
hospitality sectors like Travelodge can manage their workers with a desired timetable. I would
control the tasks by having proper timeframe and direct them within a proper direction.
Encouraging and targeting the situation- In Travelodge, person has to possess the skill to
motivate workers (Riggs, 2017). A leader or manager cannot expect that team members

recognise a task and execute it without clearly defined the targets and goals. The motivation
factors must flow in separate direction to assess the employee’s performance within organisation.
Leaders have to communicate and discuss about the task with employees to accomplish it. For

make the choices while doing a particular task. I think that I would produce a proper vision for
workers as well as accept the feedback and suggestions on the behalf of their abilities.
Professional along with personal target may put by employees toward enhance the competencies
along with skills in order to improve the presentation (Rubens et al., 2018).
Problem solving skills- It has found that effectual activities have undertaken by the workers of
Travelodge for solving the problems within a given time. For having problem solving skills, I
have to evaluate one solution for a particular problem or issue. Further, I would like to solve the
issues for assessing the organisational objectives in upcoming projects. I have a systematic and
logical approach for any complex problem.

In Travelodge, there may be certain skills and knowledge, which are needed to carry better
performance within company. However, a major resource of development skills is an experience
where an individual or employee may prepare himself for a particular task. On the other hand,
employees seem for different experiences throughout their occupation. Assistant managers have
to communicate with workers towards execute a task as well as set the presentation level that
may be specific and measurable. In case of Travelodge hotel, development needs are vital aspect
to improve the current skills along with knowledge to achieve the professional level within

The Travelodge Hotel is mainly known among the customers for providing a better standard of
accommodation. Besides, here the customers found a large range of service pattern. Thus, as an
assistant manager of Travelodge Hotel, while making the plan, one must identify the factors,
which are making serious impacts on the overall service quality and standard of the hotel
(McNamara et al. 2014). However, I already prepared a personal development plan in task 2.4
and here the activities required for this plan are discussed.
