A.
The Treaty of Waitangi in New Zealand has an important and far reaching impact on
the politics, business, economy, society and culture of the country. The Treaty of Waitangi
was first signed in 1840 between the Maori chiefs and the British Crown from the north
island of New Zealand. This is the first document which was important for the history of the
country and the political constitution. This Treaty has been a significant for framing the
political connection between the Maori population and the Government of New Zealand
which was then operated by the British. The Treaty was written at the time win the New
Zealand Company and British colonies used to act on the behalf of the large number new
Zealanders pressuring the crown for establishing a Colony in the land (Parsonson, 2017).
At this point of time the moral leaders had petitioned to the British Crown to protect
them from the attack of French forces. This Treaty was drafted to establish a British
Governor in New Zealand who will be recognising the Maori ownership of this land, their
forest and the other possessions (Parsonson, 2017). This Treaty recognised the Maori rights
as the British subjects. Moreover it was intended to ensure that win the British sovereignty
will be declared over New Zealand then the Maori people will not feel that their rights are
being ignored. However some of the Maori leaders were not supporting this idea of coming
under British rule because they were free people having natural possession of the land water
and forest of New Zealand (Hayward, 2019).
The Treaty includes a preamble and 3 articles which is written in two languages both
in English as well as in marry Dalit. The article 1 refers that all the rights and powers will be
possessed by buy the Crown. Article 2 establishes ownership of the Maori people over the
land and establish the exclusive right of pre-emption of the Crown (Hayward, 2019). The

third article allows the moral people complete right as well as protections as the British
subjects. The Treaty of Waitangi was the way through which the British gained the sole right
of purchasing Land in the name of the government of Queen Victoria (Hayward & Wheen,

The Treaty of Waitangi had two different versions as mentioned, one was for the
Maori chiefs and another were for the white New Zealanders. Some people argue that this
Treaty was different in different language especially with the regard to the question of
sovereignty. In the English text the moral leaders give the British crown all the rights and
powers of sovereignty over their land. On the other hand the moral text explains that moral
leaders give the British crown the complete government over the land (Orange, 2015). In the
second article of English text refers to the leaders and people to be collective and individual
for granting undisturbed position of their states, islands, forests, fisheries along with other
properties. Similarly in the Maori text reflects the Maoris where guaranteed with unqualified
exercise of their chieftainship over all their positions (Orange, 2015). These two
interpretations created problems and confusion.
Question 2.
Different interpretations of the Treaty of Waitangi can affect the understanding of the
two companies. Wakatu if starts business with Tropicana Inc., then there will be need for
sharing lands, van yards, orchards and water of the area as both the companies operate in the
same industry. Both Wakatu and Tropicana are famous for producing food and beverages.
Now while establishing and Alliance with Tropicana. Wakatu Corporation will be following
the Maori interpretation of the Treaty of Waitangi but for being an American company
Tropicana will interpret the English version of the treaty. International trade has polarized the

international trade because these benefit the economy of the land bit on the other hand some
clans vehement oppose the idea as this may obviate the rights of the indigenous people in

two interpretation of the same Treaty can create confusion among the partners. This is
sharply related to the rights to natural resources like forests and land on behalf of the Maori
people. Therefore sharing these lands with other foreign companies can be questionable
(Rout, 2018). The understanding of rights of the labours in the foreign subsidiary will also be
a problem as the organisational culture of these two companies are completely different
therefore the problems of liberate can prevent the growth of foreign alliance in this land.

The Treaty of Waitangi plays an important role for forming a good business
relationship between the foreign company Tropicana and the Maori company Wakatu. This
treaty e is important because this ensures that this ensures that the pakeha and Maori will be
protected and enjoy equal rights. This Treaty recognises the ownership of Mori people on the
land by protecting their way of life. The government will meet their needs and give back
what they have taken from this people. This Treaty also made the government responsible for
addressing problems of the indigenous people. Thus this treaty empowers the Maori people in
New Zealand developing their economic situation by promoting business. Treaty of Waitangi
gives the right to own the land water and the culture which enables the individual indigenous
people fairly in case of employment opportunities.
This Treaty had influenced the business of New Zealand in various ways. For
example the organizational culture is collective dominated by the Maori world view (Orange,

but the resources and results are shared by the community. The organisations are mostly
consisted of Maori employees predominantly who take care of one another and work as
family. The idea of preservation of the natural resources and sustainable use of land, water
and forest are one of the most important factors of Maori culture in New Zealand (Rangihau,
2017). This will be helping greatly Tropicana to collect resources and raw materials in more
sustainable way if it starts to work with the Maori organisation wakatu. The cultural value,
believe has made these people honest and ethical which will create a good partnership
relation with the foreign company. Therefore, if Tropicana starts to observe the Maori values
in its partner, it will be facilitate with greater respect to nature and use the natural resources in
the most sustainable way.

In the business partnership between Tropicana and Wakatu, the possibility of
developing Limited partnership is high. This is due to the fact that Wakatu is the indigenous
organisation having 4000 Maori owners who are the shareholders of the company, 250
million dollar assets and 70% activities for vineyard, orchard and marine farm. Tropicana
here can only help the company for producing food and beverages by collective those raw
materials and sale those products worldwide.
The principles of partnership will be completely dependent upon mutual trust,
genuineness, respect and commitment (Gelfand et al., 2017). Through this the partners will
be addressing their needs of one another and cater the self-interest. In a partnership of
business with foreign entity can lead to both advantages and disadvantages to the company.
The advantages will include, diversity in the human workforce, better management, more

expansion of business, more product innovation and most importantly more capital will be
available. There are some risks in partnership of Wakatu with Tropicana also because each of
the partners are jointly and severally liable for partnership depths which is related to the fact

Both the companies will thus increase capacity and perform will in the Global market.
Tropicana and has a huge customer base in the European and Asian countries. Now it will
produce food and beverages of International standard and supply those to the international
market. In addition to this the product manufactured by Wakatu can get opportunity to
become a brand under Tropicana.

believes, understanding, behaviour, attitude and perspective of the people. Now New Zealand
is considered to be bicultural as the government accepts the language and identity of the
Maori indigenous people and pakeha or the white New Zealanders. The people in this society
are much progressive in their thoughts and accept changes more effectively. On the other
hand a multicultural society teaches the people to be acceptable and adaptable with any
situation. Both biculturalism and multiculturalism can help in building operationally diverse
and talented workforce stuff it can take advantage of the individuals who feel comfortable in
the multiple cultures and adapt themselves with any type of situation has changed (Stahl et
al., 2017). The relationship between the companies will be e promoted win the contributions
of the human war force will be used properly in in the operation of these two companies. In
such context the employees will be familiar with rituals and Customs of two or more

In order to build a solid and lasting business relationship with the foreign company
Tropicana Inc., the authority of Wakatu needs to be supportive and respecting to the
organisational structure and policies of the foreign partner. The company must identify
shared goals and values of the partner so that the strategies for building relationship as well as
operating together can be developed (Moore, 2015). This is due to the fact that in partnership
business trust and dependability upon one another is essential. It is not possible for an
international American brand like Tropicana to work in the same way as the Maori company
Wakatu. Therefore different of perspective and actions may affect the communication. The
organizational culture of these two companies are different. Therefore, the problems of
adaptability may hamper the good relationship between these two companies. This is the
reason why, Wakatu needs to take more responsibility to make way for Tropicana so that the
company feels comfortable in every way while operating as partner. Though mutual respect
and transparent decisions, these two companies can successfully operate in the market of
New Zealand as well as in the market of the other continents.
Depending upon the business values of Wakatu Corporation dominated by Maori
values four important strategies can be developed. These are-

communities rather than thinking for self (Love, 2017). Thus the relationship of the

which are transferred to the values, beliefs and actions of the human resource (McNeill,
2017). The national culture decides how the behaviour of the employees of the organisation
will be. In the multinational companies the effect of national culture in the organisation is
perceive tomorrow appropriately. As these companies operate in different parts of the world
therefor they are influenced by the national culture of that market in terms of the values
believes customs and understanding of the countries culture (McNeill, 2017). The
inconsistency of the organisational culture and values are hold by the managers living and
adverse impact on the performance of these managers along with resulted in the employee
turnover for absenteeism. In such multinational companies when the expatriate employees

superiors . They share information frequently unlike the organisational structure of the
American companies. In the US the power distance dimension is high where the lower level
employees have limited access to the managers and higher authority. The moral value of
Wakatu health made the organisation to be collective as opposed to highly individualistic
culture of the US organisations. In the Maori corporation, the employees try to work in teams
and do not work for self-interest (McNeill, 2017). On the other hand the organisational
culture of the US mandates to look after themselves and their direct family only.

high and the male members of society are to take the responsibility e of the entire family . In

elements. They know the importance of protectiveness and sustainable use of resources
unlike the Americans.

the way of communication. It is also relevant for Tropicana also. Poor communication can
affect the understanding of the lower level of local employees for they do not have proper

ethical, professional and social dimensions of these two cultures are different. Moreover the
political problems of the Europeans had affected the social and cultural aspects of the Maori
people (Beugelsdijk, Kostova & Roth, 2017). Therefore communication style need to have
special care for building good relationship between these two companies. The company while
