CRITICAL REPORT 2
Introduction
The project was aimed at designing a website for Tribute which deals with promoting
artists, DJ’s and musicians by providing them with a platform to showcase and promote their
talents. The overall system functionality has already been discussed. To achieve the requirements
set by the company, HTML 5, CSS3, and JavaScript technologies were used to develop the web
system.
Research
HTML 5 supports consistent representation of contents on web browsers. Tribute website
deals with rich media which should be accessed on all the platforms such as desktops, tablets,
and mobile phones. As such, the website should be dynamically responsive and this is a distinct
feature supported by HTML 5 (Gore, 2016). Therefore, it is the recommended choice for the
cross platform web development tool because it has the ability to adapt to low-powered devices
like tablets and smartphones. HTML 5 is not limited to any operating system because it is
dependent on the browser thus supports several native applications such as android, iOS,
Blackberry among others. All the latest browsers support HTML 5. An alternative that the
developer would have used is PHP. However, PHP is not a preferred tool for a multi-platform
graphic intensive website. As such, the developer is certain that HTML 5 was the best choice.
Another tool that was used is the CSS 3 (Cascading style sheet) which is a programming
language that allow developers to determine how the site and site documents are styled
(Garaizar, Vadillo and Lopez-de-Ipina, 2012). All graphical web browsers have the ability to
interpret CSS regardless of the operating system of device accessing it. CSS facilitates logical
division of how the web page should look and its structure that is handled by HTML. The
developer employed the use of CSS while developing the Tribute website to tailor and style the
various web pages to meet the different screen sizes (desktop, tablet, smartphones). This was the
best choice for the developer to implement the front-end web design.
Combining HTML5 and CSS can yield amazing results. This is because it offers the
benefits of developing accurate and refined web pages that can operate on different operating

system, devices, and screen sizes. The two languages are the most cost effective multi-platform
web development tools (Williams, 2012). This will benefit the company overall because of the
lower development and maintenance cost facilitating the business to redirect the extra resources
to other projects. Secondly, they support proper structuring of web pages giving the website good
page ranking in search engine optimization and content marketing. HTML 5 supports offline
browsing by allowing users to store the website content and code offline. This enables the users
to minimize on bandwidth usage by viewing the content offline without internet connection.
Furthermore, offline caches enhance the performance because site content and code are
accessed locally and quickly. More than 60% of web videos have been encoded for HTML5 and
this greatly benefits Tribute because of the ability of HTML5 to support native video and
facilitates distribution of high quality videos (Bundza, Vander Meer and Perez-Stable, 2009).
HTML5 supports a bigger range of presentation and design tools across the different types of
media enabling the web developers to come up with better we applications and websites. This is
a vital element for businesses because users prefer websites that are more appealing and
attractive.
Usability and Accessibility
The major objective of the project was to enable artists, musicians, and DJs to promotes
their talents. As such, the target audience are more technologically informed and get attracted to
more appealing and attractive websites. But what is the need of having a website that is not
accessible or usable. Accessibility and usability of any website is very important.
Usability refers to how easy it is to use and interact with the website. Usability can be
measured using the following five criteria: efficiency, memorability, satisfaction, errors, and
learnability (Ou et al., 2015). Usability defines the expected tasks that users should accomplish
using the website, how easy and efficient can they accomplish these tasks, and the is the user is
satisfied the steps taken to accomplish the tasks. The developer used these guidelines together
with the requirements provided by the company to ensure that the website meets all the expected
function in order to meet the usability testing. However, usability is biased because it does not
consider users with disability.

Accessibility is an attribute that tests if the websites is available for the disabled users to
use (Resnick, 2017). While developing the Tribute website, the developer did consider website
accessibility but could not meet all the accessibility need. As such, the website only facilitates
the users with hands and eyes to use the system and does not support voice recognition to
support those with eye problem.
The strategy the developer used was able to meet usability requirements. However,
accessibility is a very essential aspect in web development which the developer did not satisfy.
With sufficient technology and skills, the developer would add the voice recognition to the
website so as to be available to all the users.
Further Enhancements
Completing this project enhanced the skills of the developer. However, the website
developed can further be improved to enable the users to view and access the website easily
regardless of the device they are using and without changing the look and feel (Aziz and
Kamaludin, 2018, p. 7729). Also, it is recommended that the navigation should be kept simple
and intuitive. Additionally, the pages should be given simple names that users can easily
interpret., for instance a developer can know what Index page means but to a normal user it may
mean a totally different thing. As such, it is important to maintain simplicity in naming
conventions. Furthermore, adding a logo to the websites creates brand identity which allows
users to associate the logo with the company by just looking at it (Sahi and Madan, 2015). The
logo should have call to action functionality that redirect user to the home page.
Conclusion
HTML5 and CSS3 gives numerous opportunities to businesses dealing in development
and deployment of rich media web content. Using both these tools in web development provides
a perfect foundation for content marketing and SEO and optimization of user experience.
Usability and accessibility are two major aspects that determines the overall performance of the
website and should be considered at all times.
