1TRUMP’S IMMIGRATION POLICY
Introduction
Donald Trump has been in the international news ever since he became president of
United States of America. He came under the lime light of international media due to his
immigration policies proposed right after he came in power. The policies got attraction due to its
high association with religion, race, ethnicity, economy etc. The immigration policies proposed
by Trump draw clear line, discriminating people in terms of the above mentioned.
Discussion
Trump on September of 2017 proposed restriction on immigration from eight selected
countries are Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen. The
immigration permit according to this policy will be depending on the level of security measures
taken by the country1. However, federal court halted the policy as it focuses primarily on the
Muslim countries that are unconstitutional according to the USA constitution. Actions on the
refuge on the other hand restrict eleven countries from entering the USA. This provides control
over the number of refuges in the country limiting it to 50,000 per year. Another measurement
taken by President Trump on the immigration is the proposal of wall on the border with Mexico2.
This is to stop illegal immigration for Mexico. The last significant immigration policy signed by
Trump is the H-1B visa program. H-1B visa program allows the immigrant workers to go to

USA3. The program proposed by Trump allows the high paid immigrants to enter the States. This
will make the companies to pay their immigrant workers equivalent salary to their U.S.
counterpart. This will considerably raise the cost incurred by the companies.
These policies signed by Trump can be viewed from various perspectives addressing and
compromising the rights of the immigrants. These policies have various consequences depending
on the specific ground addressed. The newly formed policies will put stop to the DACA policy
set by ex-president Obama. This when viewed from the economic perspective will cost the States
around $60 billion for deporting the immigrant population protected by DACA. Moreover, the
population contributes around $28 billion to the State’s economy on yearly basis, which will
bring negative impact on the economy4. Many other immigration policies dictated by President
Trump directed toward the same proposition of restricting immigration from outside. This will
again have impact on the country’s economy. This will significantly reduce the revenue of the
country generated through the foreign visitors. Moreover, the immigrants with college degree
generated estimated $105,000 more revenue compared to the service industry.
Moreover, imposed restriction on immigration for specific countries depending on the
Muslim population of the country raises question on religion in the international level. This as
viewed by Trump is to improve country’s security from terrorism. Discrimination based on

culture and religion imposed by the policies is highly criticised in international level. Federal
court of the States itself denied the application of the particular immigration policy set be
President Trump justifying the rejection with the violation of State constitution. Freedom of
religion as safeguarded by the first amendment denies any discrimination based on religion,
culture or ethnicity5. Announcement of the policy created unrest among the general population
both within and outside of United States by both the community being discriminated as well as
the general mass belonging form other religious background. Most of President Trump’s
immigration policies were rejected on the ground of ethnic, religious, cultural discrimination.
Conclusion
It is possible to conclude from above that the policies that Trumps proposed on
immigration have greater cons compared to its pros. Moreover, the discriminative policies
violate the international human rights as well as the state constitution, which halts the policies
from imposition. Moreover, the policies have adverse effect on the long term overall economic
condition of the country.
