MAIN BODY
Management and leadership approaches observable in Uber and Lyft
There are different approaches that managers take into practice in order work effectively
for the business. These approaches help the organisation to gain trust of the working staff and
make them engage to their respective duties. There are management approaches that are
observable in Uber and Lyft and are as following:-
Interpersonal Behaviour approach:- This management approach is having its major
focus on working staff. This approach believes that the staff members are required to
work together in order to achieve the business objectives. Uber and Lyft is somehow not
able to work effectively in bringing their employees together as they do not understand
one another (Madrid and et.al., 2018). Business is required to make respective changes in
their working culture in order to motivate their working staff. This may help the business
to work in right direction.
The Group Behaviour approach:- While working for Uber and Lyft, the employees are
having common feelings and their attitude also changes on bases of their groups
ideology. Organisation is required to have a positive interaction with the drivers and
have to understand the need of the group of employees working together in order to have
smooth work flow.

Operational approach:- Business is required to have coordination of working staff and
different business resources. Uber and Lyft work effectively to have smooth functioning
of the business. Although business have to work on staffing and leading and controlling,
the drivers that are working for them are not satisfied and facing different issues
(Shamim and et.al., 2016, July). It is therefore important for the business to organise the
respective resources and make the staff satisfied with respect to wages and facilities as
cutting the bonuses and wages may lead to dissatisfaction among the employees.
There are different leadership approaches that Uber and Lyft adopt in changing environment and
are as following:-
Trait approach:- There are leaders who study the personality of individual staff and
understand their Behaviour. It is necessary for the leaders at Uber and Lyft to understand
the common behaviour of its staff members and work effectively to make them satisfied.
Leader is required to be competent and inspiring in order to make the other staff
motivated. For the same a leader is required to have effective communication with other
working people(Ibidunni and et.al., 2018).
Behavioral approach:- This approach focuses on the actions of the leaders towards the
benefits of its employees. Uber and Lyft are required to take appropriate actions in order

result in job satisfaction of the employees and they can work effectively for the business.
Leader must have concern for its people and have to work in favor of them.
Contingency approach:- This approach focuses on the situation that leader faces and the
leadership style that is used to solve the problem (Kulkarni, 2017). Leaders at Uber and
Lyft are required to be relationship oriented as the working staff plays crucial role for
progress of the organisation. It will be beneficial to the leaders to adjust their leading
style on bases of the readiness of its employees.

Ethical environment at Uber and Lyft
It is very important for the business to have ethical working environment as it creates a
positive reputation on company in market. It also helps the organisation to have an improved
morale of its working staff. Organisation like Uber and Lyft is required to work effectively on
business ethics as it leads to professional decision of the business. It may undermine the integrity
of the workplace and may also affect the safety of the organisation. Having ethical environment
leads to satisfied employees who work for the organisational benefits and not for their own sake.
They feel attached to the workplace and are loyal to the business. In case of Uber and Lyft,
business is required to make the employees feel important and satisfied as the organisation is
earning billion, but the workforce is not satisfied with their wages and bonuses. They are
claiming that the organization is cutting their bonuses and are not getting proper wages to fulfill
their daily needs (Mitonga-Monga, Flotman and Cilliers, 2016). Company is required to redesign
its appraisal system and on bases of the performance of its employees, they get bonus and wages
in hand. It should not be for the name sake, but the essential needs of the working staff is
required to be fulfilled by the organisation.

If the working staff is not rewarded for their effective performance and are not
appreciated for their hard work, soon they will switch the organisation. This again increases the
cost the business to hire and train new employee. Management at Uber and Lyft are required to
make the staff feel safe and secure while working for the business. All these work ethics leads to
motivation among the employees and then they always looks for new opportunity. At the time of
crisis, business is required to stand for their working staff as showing helping hands brings
loyalty among them (Naz and et.al., 2019). These ways are strengthening the bond that
employees and employers share while working for the organisational benefit. Team leaders are
required to become inspiration for the staff so that they follow them and their given instructions.
A constant communication is necessary between the employees and employers in order to
inculcate the workplace ethics.
There are several benefits that Uber and Lyft can extract with the workplace ethics. One
of them is to have an effective team work and motivation among the working employees that
leads to business productivity. Organisation will be having an strong image in public and most of
the potential people will like to join the organisation and will work for its development. The best
possible decision comes out when the organisation is working ethically (Babalola and et.al.,
2018). Having a strong work ethics leads to safety of the business assets as employees are able to
protect its important resources. Business is required to treat its employees with respect and
dignity as they are the best resources that organisation can utilize for making huge profit.
Therefore, Uber and Lyft are required to solve the problems that these working staff are facing
and have to work for their essential needs so that they become loyal towards the organisation.
