Research Aim
The aim of this research is “To analyse the benefits of rising popularity of electric
vehicles in the UK. A case study on Volkswagen.
Objectives
 To understand the concept of electric vehicles.
 To ascertain the challenges faced by Volkswagen while manufacturing electric vehicles
in United Kingdom.
 To analyse the impact of electric vehicles built by Volkswagen on natural environment of
United Kingdom.
Background
Pollution is the reason of so many diseases. It is causing harm to people. Today every
wants to stay healthy. Pollution is causing negative impact to the environment. It is a vital task to
take actions and give people disease free life. One of the major reason that is causing pollution is
use of vehicles. The transportation is one of the major reason that is causing pollution and the
action take by government is launch of electric vehicles. In today's era there is good demand of
electric vehicles. Technological advancement is one of the reason for growth of electric vehicles.
It is costly to buy one today but if seen with future prospect it will cost less over lifetime. This
study is based on the benefits of electric vehicles and its popularity in United Kingdom. It is need
as well as requirement to use electric vehicles now. As that will be good for environment as well.
2. Description of Literature and Data
To understand the concept of electric vehicles.
As per the point of view of The E-mission of Volkswagen, 2012 electric vehicles are the
one that use electric motor and does not have internal-combustion engine. There is no use of
gases and fuels to run an electric vehicle. The functioning of this type of vehicle is also different
as they get charges by plugging them into a charging point. The main source of the functioning is
electricity. As they do not have engine, there is use of rechargeable batteries that give power to
the electric motor. Also they run faster than the traditional vehicles. There are various advantages
of using electric vehicles. There are three types of electric vehicles and they are battery electric
vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles. Along with that customers

want to experience the use to electric vehicles. It will reduce pollution and other issues that are
related with pollution. These vehicles do not emit carbon gases.
To ascertain the challenges faced by Volkswagen while manufacturing electric vehicles in
United Kingdom.
According to Impact of electric vehicles by Volkswagen on environment, 2021 The first
and foremost problem while manufacturing electrical vehicles is new things take time. Not every
one is ready for change. As it is a new concept and people will taker time take it normal. But
there is requirement of such changes that are beneficial for the environment. This is need of
society to accept the changes. There is requirement to use electric vehicles. As there are large
number of vans used for online delivery because of which pollution is rising. It is important to
focus on Environment friendly products so use of e-vehicles is required. The charging points are
not available in parking of every apartment. These are the challenges that should be kept in mind
by Volkswagen while manufacturing electric vehicle.
To analyze the impact of electric vehicles built by Volkswagen on natural environment of United
Kingdom.
According to Overview of electric vehicle and its evolution, 2018 These electronic cars
are beneficial for the environment. As they emit less green house gases and cause less pollution.
Also these cars improve the quality of air. Not only air pollution it also reduces noise pollution.
As these are quieter than the traditional once. On the other side while manufacturing electric cars
there is use of lot of energy. There is use of technology and the change is for better. As today the
emission while manufacturing is more. This will be improved in future. Along with that there is
planning in relation to reuse of batteries Overall these electric vehicles are greener option.
3. Methodology – process used to select the literature and data
Research Methodology can be defined as method that is used to gather the data and
resolve the research problem. It helps to get a conclusion out of data collected. Here the task is to
decide the best method that can be used to collect and analyze the data(Kester, J.,and et.al.,
2020). It is vital to select the methodology wisely as the result of the research depends on the
information collected.
Research Philosophy: It is a belief according to which data is gathered, analyzed and collected.
There are two types of research philosophy that is positivism and Interpretivism. In positivism
the data collected depends on quantifiable observations that needs statistical analysis. Here the

factual knowledge gained is being used. Along with that the human is away from the study and
individual interest is not used. The another philosophy is interpretivism which is also called as
interpretivist. The human interest is included in the study. It is based of naturalistic approach of
collecting data(Mounce and Nelson, 2019). Secondary research is popular with interpretivism.
So for conducting this research interpretivism research is being done.
Research Approach: It is a plan that has steps for collection of data, its analysis and then
interpretation. The research is based on research problem. It is vital to select right approach
towards the research. The types of research approach are discussed:
Inductive approach is the one which analyses the qualitative data and the analysis is based on
evaluation of objectives. The aim is to develop theory rather than testing existing theory.
Another approach is deductive the focus is on logics(Muneer, Kolhe and Doyle, 2017).
Hypothesis is formulated under this approach. In this research inductive approach is being used.
Data Collection Method: It is important to collect data. There are two methods of collecting data
that is primary and secondary. In primary first hand data is being collected and then used. On the
other side secondary data means use of already existing information. It is important to select
right way to collect data. In this case secondary data is being used to collect the information.
Research Strategy helps the researcher to plan the way of conducting the research. It provides
way to collect and analyse the data. It is step by step plan to conduct the research systematically
and to draw conclusion. The various strategies to research are questionnaires, interviews,
statistical method and literature review(Guiton, and Finlay, 2020). As this is a secondary
research the strategy used to conduct the research is literature review. It is survey of scholarly
articles, books, and any other sources relevant to area of research, that helps to provide a
summary, description, and critical evaluation of work related to the research topic.
4. Summary of Literature and Data
Electric vehicles are those vehicles which run from electronically charged battery. Their engines
are designed in such a manner that they get they run by plugging them into charging charging
point. They do not get their power from combustion of petrol or diesel and helps in preventing
air pollution(Viola, 2021). The main motive of introduction o these vehicles by various
companies is to save fossil fuels which are non-renewable resources and are limited in the
environment. The electric vehicles needs low maintenance as compared to conventional internal
combustion engine vehicles. The energy sources which are used in these vehicles are capacitors,

batteries, flywheels and many more. When electric vehicles are introduced they purely use
batteries only for power consumption which required to be charged in a frequent manner. But
later these electric vehicles use different energy sources which are used in combination of one
another. That is the reason these vehicles are known as hybrid electric vehicle. Volkswagen also
manufactures electric vehicles in order to give innovative and environmental friendly vehicles to
the society. It helps them to increase the customer base of the company. There are various types
of electric engines which are classified by their function and manufacturing such as Battery
Electric Vehicles, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, fuel cell electric vehicle and Hybrid vehicle.
During manufacturing of these vehicles there are several challenges which are faced by
the company Volkswagen(Kapustin and Grushevenko, 2020). The first challenge is to
manufacture the concept on time to take market advantage but adaptation of new and innovative
technology takes time. The target customers of company also take time to adapt that new
technology. The another challenge that is faced by the company is to provide charge to the
vehicles as charging points are generally not available in the parking areas which can be
problematic for the customers. These challenges can be focused by the organization during
manufacturing of vehicles and coping up with these problems they also introduced hybrid type of
vehicles in the market. The electronic vehicles are so beneficial for the natural environment of
United kingdom. The electric vehicles emits less greenhouse gases which helps to improve
quality of air in surroundings of United kingdom. As per a study it is observed that major
pollution is caused by emission from vehicles and this innovative technology helps the
environment to lessen the pollution. The experts of environment utilize material flow analysis to
check the production process of Volkswagen and finds that they waste 3.7 tonnes less every year
and company saves 9000 filters per year which costs of approximately €100,000. Hence, it can
be observed that choosing environment friendly techniques not only helps the society but it also
helps the organization to attain success and their organizational goals. It also helps to reduce
consumption of fossil fuel which are limited resource of environment. They are non renewable
resources and require to be protected in order to save it for future generation(Deb and et.al.,
2018). Use of electronic vehicles reduce consumption of diesel and petrol which is beneficial for
the society.

5. Evaluation of the relevance/appropriateness of the literature sources
As secondary research is used for completing this research. Use of various journals,
already published articles and related papers is used. It is important to use relevant information
as it helps to draw a conclusion. It is very important for the research paper that researcher use
authenticate data so that the result is good(Melchiorre, 2018). So that's why while performing
this research all data and information so taken from certified books and journals. This research is
based on secondary research which include newspapers, books and journals, etc. It can be make
sure while performing this research they does not violate ethics or code of conduct. The
relevance of data that used in this research should be follow all rules and regulations so that they
can evaluate the accurate data. The result accuracy is depends on the relevancy of data that's why
it is very important for the researcher that they make sure about the relevancy of sources. This
report use relevant data so that the outcome become useful and effective for the researcher.
Because if they doesn't use relevant data then they get wrong result which are not useful for any
person(Morgan, 2020). So that's why it is necessary that researcher should make sure about
relevancy of source.
6. Reflections on your own learning during research
It is a privilege that I have given the opportunity to conduct this research. The topic is so
interesting and important to study. Due to raising pollution the need for electric vehicles is
enhancing. Along with that various challenges are faced due to pollution(Aarstad, and
Kvitastein, 2020). I developed good knowledge about the need of electronic vehicles and the
way they are impacting the society. There comparison with the traditional vehicles. This research
has helped me to gain more confidence by enhancing my knowledge related to a new topic. It
was time consuming as various sources were used to complete the research. Many books,
journals and papers were read to draw a conclusion. Also this helped me to learn about different
methods of research and when they are used. This will help me in future while conducting
further research. I have developed good understanding of the concepts. I also analysed that it is
right time to switch to electronic vehicles die to rising problems caused by traditional once. Also
There are various challenges and hindrances in the path of manufacturing these vehicles as
people do not accept change easily. It is popular and required by the people. Also this research
helped to understand the concept and working of electric vehicles.
