Title:To criticize and analyse the import market in UK after the Brexit and its
collateral effect on consumer behaviour
1. INTRODUCTION
Background of project
Brexit is an incident that took place on Jan. 31, 2020, after which U.K. legally revoked its
membership from the 28-nation EU. The voters had supported this move of government by
52% to 48% around three years earlier than its actual implementation after a rancorous 10-week
campaign that has exposed anxieties about globalization and raised many questions about
the consequences and impacts faced for a united Europe (Biancone, Secinaro and Brescia,
2019). The votes and this incident has jolted financial markets and lead to tumbling of U.K.
currency on the prospect of years of uncertainty regarding how Brexit will going to effect the
work and other operations in UK and EU. Thus, it become necessary to evaluate, criticize and
analyse the import market in UK after the Brexit and what collateral effect are lead by this
incident on consumer behaviour.
Rationale of research
The section of current research work on topic of Brexit and its collateral effects is
rational and justifiable as it become necessary to evaluate and have better understanding of
consequence and effects of Brexit so that its effect on consumer behaviour can also be evaluated.
Brexit has created many impacts and changes on import system and procedure of UK thus,
selection of current research topic is justifiable as yield better understanding on current topic.
Further, theses issues and research topic are also meeting the personal interest and criteria of
general knowledge and academic purpose of researcher.
Aims and Objective
The main aim of this research project is “To analyse the anticipated changes after Brexit
in import market of UK together with its collateral effect on consumer behaviour”.
Objectives
The main objectives and targets of this research work are stated as follows:
To evaluate current import market of United Kingdom together with analysis of situation
of UK post Brexit.

(Kong, 2019).
To develop better understanding about the negative effect of Brexit together with its
collateral effect on consumer behaviour. To understand future challenges for import market in UK.
Research questions
What situation are created by Brexit in UK?
What can be evaluated about current import market of United kingdom?
What understanding are you having about the negative effect of Brexit together with its
collateral effect on consumer behaviour?
What are the possible future challenges associated with import market in UK?
2. Literature review
It is process associated with survey and evaluation of various past articles and published
journals in order to get better understanding about a specific research topic (Hendry and et. al.,
2019) Following literature review is conducted on current research topic in order to have a better
framework and base for current investigation.
To analyse the situation of UK post Brexit.
According to the view point of Benjamin Mueller, 2020, after three years of haggling
finally the parliament of British convulsions at the top of the government and Britain closes the
book on nearly half a century of close ties with Europe after its final spilt on Jan. 31. 2020. The
Brexit is a important incident as Europe is Britain’s most important export market and also its
biggest source of foreign investment thus, agreement will have significant effect on both imports
and exports of UK together with the level of investment in the nation. Apart from this, the
government of UK has projected that in 15 years, the economy of country would be 4 percent to
9 percent smaller in case Britain left the European Union thus, it is conform that this step will
bring some drastic impact on economy of UK. Brexit will ultimately lead to an end to free
movement of people, goods, information, etc. from elsewhere in Europe to live, work and sale in
locations and market of Britain (Oakland, 2019). Thus, the working-class people of UK are
seeing immigration as a threat for their jobs thus effective their perceptive and creating
consequences for them. Further an end to free movement is effecting the prospect of young
Britons who are hoping and desperate to study or work at abroad. Thus, it can be evaluated that

the Brexit agreement between UK and EU has created threat and negative consequence on
British jobs, exports and imports thus, also affected and lead consequence for consumer
behaviours.
To evaluate current import market of United kingdom.
As per the opinion of Daniel Workman, 2020, The United Kingdom has imported
US$689.6 billion worth of goods and other products from across the globe in 2019 that reflects
that the imports of are showing a 9.4% increase since 2015 and a 3% enhancement from 2018 to
2019. Further, the imports of UK accounts for 3.5% of total global imports which is estimated as
$19.665 trillion one year earlier during 2018. Beside this, It is a continental perspective that
three-fifths (59%) of United Kingdom’s total imports in 2019 were purchased only from
European countries that is compared and consists of 49.1% from only the countries of European
Union members. Thus, it can be evaluated that Brexit will definitely hamper and create
consequence on level of imports for UK. United Kingdom’s top import products are cars, crude
oil, gold, refined petroleum oils and turbo-jets followed by mobile phones then automotive parts
or accessories a bifurcation of which includes Gems, precious metals: US$88.3 billion (12.8% of
total imports), Machinery including computers: $84.7 billion (12.3%), Vehicles : $73.5 billion
(10.7%), Electrical machinery, equipment: $63.9 billion (9.3%), Mineral fuels including oil:
$56.2 billion (8.1%), Knit or crochet clothing, accessories: $11.7 billion (1.7%) and many more
(O'Rourke, 2019. The Brexit issue has negatively effected the supply chain and imports of UK
which has increased the cost, projections and risks for the import system of UK (Biancone,
Secinaro and Brescia, 2019).
What understanding are you having about the negative effect of Brexit together with its collateral
effect on consumer behaviour?
According to Begg I. 2017, Economic considerations and situations of company is more
important as in UK it becomes the part of Brexit. As economic disintegration is the rare fact that
is depends on the assessing the separation from the regional economic blocs like as the European
Union (EU) on which the UK is embarked. As after Brexit, it put negative impact on the
functioning and running of policies in UK and EU as after this, many things got affected such as
businesses and their regulatory policies and after businesses got affected then it leads to
influences the buying behaviour of consumers because of negative impact of Brexit on the
separation of European Union and United Kingdom (Kong, 2019).

What are the possible future challenges associated with import market in UK?
According to Eisenberg A. 2020, many policies impacts the functioning and trade
policies of company as after the three years of Brexit any indicator and negotiations become
difficult as market environment is dynamic in nature as it describes those changes with EU rules.
Meanwhile, the UK ministers are travelling in whole world working on the trade possibilities of
UK. For this, they need to get ready to reinvigorate their ties with their old relatives. Moreover,
SMEs may feel some of the positive impacts of Brexit as some industries make their major
moves in order to regulate business environment (Hendry, and et. al., 2019).
3.METHODOLOGIES
Research philosophy
It is an appropriate method which is useful in order to gather appropriate information
with the help of using appropriate information. It is useful in dealing with effective concept and
knowledge which is based on factual information. As it has two main research that is positivism
and interpretivism and in this research, positivism is considered as it depicts the importance of
getting desired result. Use of positivism research philosophy has been made by current research
as it ensures more practical and scientific philosophy for investigation.
Research approach
It defines the plan and process which is useful in collecting and determining the assumed
data (Campos, 2019). For this, it is of two types like deductive and inductive and in this research,
deductive research is opted as it developed with specific purpose in order to outsource the
functions. Deductive research approach yield better generalisation of quantitative research
findings.
Research method
It is considered as the strategic procedure and technique in order to collect data and
determine relevant data and develop effective understanding of research questions in an effective
manner. It is useful in order to implement the plan in research and of two types which is
qualitative and quantitative and in this research quantitative research is opted as it helps in
providing detailed information in taking effective decisions and justifying research objectives
(Ghauri, Grønhaug and Strange, 2020). Use of quantitative research method is made as it ensures
better presentation of research findings in form of charts and tables.
Sources of data collection
4
Document Page
It is defined as the collection of data for sampling size that is useful in determining and
understanding the factual information which is gathered in an effective manner and it is also of
two types as primary and secondary as in this research both of them are considered in order to
maintain the reliability of research in specific period of time.
Sampling is a process associated with selection of pre determined number of units and
observation from a set of larger population (Dong, Minford and Meenagh, 2019). For current
research work a sample size of 40 respondents are selected form the citizens of UK with the help
of random sampling method. Use of a questionnaire will be made to collect information from
these respondents.
4. PROJECT MANAGEMENT PLAN
This provide a framework for better planning of a project and facilitates proper
functioning of research activities (Biancone, Secinaro and Brescia, 2019). The various aspects
included in project management plan are discussed below with respect to current research work.
Scope- This factor of project management plan is associated with the main subject
manner. For current research work the scope of project is very wide as it is based on analysis of
import market in UK after the Brexit and its collateral effect on consumer behaviour. Beside this,
use of best possible techniques and tools are also made by research to ensure the timely
achievement of research objective (Kong, 2019). Further, scope of this research also includes the
improvement lead by this project in skills and competencies of researcher.
Cost- This element of research is associated with the total expanses made on research
work that includes procurement of resources and other assets (Hendry, and et. al., 2019). A
bifurcation of cost and expenses associated with current research work is provided in following
table:
Bifurcation of cost Amount
Cost of labour £ 100
Transportation cost £ 80
Other estimated expenses £ 40
Total Cost £ 220
Thus, the estimated cost for this research project accounts around £ 220.

required to accomplish various activities of research that includes collection of data, evaluation
of findings and effective presentation of these research findings to achieve the desired goals of
research work. The estimated time duration required for this research project is around 3 months.
Resource- It represent the various assets and instruments used for a research work. For
this research project use of various assets are made that includes competent workforces and
financial resources. A team for performing project is associated with this research project and it
is the responsibility of human resources manager to effectively guide and manage them in an
effective manner (Oakland, 2019). Further, use of various quality control mechanism are also
made to ensures efficiency and better performance of all individuals and other resources. The
main methods used to maintain the efficiency and quality level of project includes six sigma and
total quality methods that ensures better coordination and check on performance thus, ensures
optimum and effective utilisation of assets and resources.
Communication- It is a most vital component of a research planning that includes
various modes of communication to transfer and share relevant information with stakeholders
and other related parties (O'Rourke, 2019). Use of effective communication strategy reduces the
chances of chaos and confutation thus, facilitates better bonding and team commitment to
achieve the desired objectives. Following commination plan is made by research in context of

that corrective action can be taken. Further, lack of sufficient resources to meet expenses and
cost of the project is also risk associated with current research work. Beside this, uncertainty and
failure of machinery and tools while performing research is also a threat and risk associated with
current research work.
5. Work Breakdown Structure and Gantt chart
Work breakdown structure- use of following WBS are made by researcher for current
research work to provide information and bifurcation of various activity of this research (Dong,
Minford and Meenagh, 2019). Use of this model insures clarity in research work through
properly bifurcating and dividing complex research in to various sub heading.
Gantt chart- It is a commonly used time management tool that facilitates timely
completion of research work (Ghauri, Grønhaug and Strange, 2020). Following Gantt chart are
prepared by investigator for current research work as it facilitates transparency in activity
