This business research project investigates the response of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the United Kingdom to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It explores the impact on business continuity, the controls implemented by businesses, the perceived effectiveness of national support schemes, and business feedback on government support. The research employs both qualitative and quantitative data, utilizing an interpretivism philosophy and an inductive approach. The findings highlight the challenges faced by SMEs, particularly in sectors like pharmaceuticals, and the importance of government assistance in navigating the crisis. The report identifies a research gap concerning SME perspectives, as previous studies have largely focused on larger companies. The research methodology involves a descriptive design to provide in-depth insights into the pandemic's impact and business decision-making.
